Percutaneous Sclerotherapy of Postoperative Lymphoceles: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Different Sclerosant Agents.

PURPOSE: This study aims to provide a meta-analysis of relevant outcomes related to various sclerosant agents used in percutaneous lymphocele sclerotherapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A systematic review, registered on PROSPERO (Record CRD420251180687), was performed using PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, including studies reporting any kind of postoperative lymphoceles treated with a sclerosant agent. Searches were updated to November 2025. Pooled success, recurrence, and complication rates were estimated for each sclerosant agent, and differences across agents were explored. The risk of bias

Polidocanol in Sclerotherapy for Lymphovenous Disorders: Mechanisms, Clinical Uses, and Future Prospects.

Polidocanol is a widely recognised drug for its effectiveness as a sclerosant in the treatment of lymphovenous disease. The versatility and minimal invasiveness of polidocanol make it a favoured treatment modality for chronic venous disease (CVD) and other venous and vascular disorders. Especially, polidocanol foam sclerotherapy achieves high closure rates and efficiency compared to thermal ablation, in cases of venous hypertension affecting small tributary veins of the peripheral venous system. The underlying pathophysiology of these venous disorders is multifactorial. Elevated venous hyperte

Resection of an oropharyngeal venous malformation.

BACKGROUND: Venous malformations (VMs) are congenital vascular lesions caused by enlarged and ectatic venous channels. Current methods of treatment for VMs involve a combination of sclerotherapy, laser therapy, and surgical resection. While sclerotherapy remains the most commonly used treatment for small VMs, surgery remains an important tool for isolated VMs or larger VMs with higher flow due to potential local and systemic side effects associated with the use of certain sclerosing agents. METHODS/RESULTS: Here we present a case of a patient with a naso- and oropharyngeal venous malformation

Topical injection of sclerosant to treat cheek subcutaneous venous malformation resulting in blindness: a case report.

Loss of vision after topical injection of sclerosant is a rare and uncommon complication. We describe a case with vision loss following the facial injections of physician-compounded (PCP) foam sclerotherapy which was created by room air. A 3-year-old boy underwent injection of 5ml polidocanol foamed with room air to treat the venous malformation on the cheek near the left orbit. The boy experienced the whole facial swelling on day 2 after the third injection, especially involving the left side, the visual acuity in the left eye was counting fingers at 30 cm and the swelling reduced at 7 days l

Drug Eluting Embolization Particles for Permanent Contraception.

Medical technology that blocks the fallopian tubes nonsurgically could increase access to permanent contraception and address current unmet needs in family planning. To achieve total occlusion of the fallopian tube via scar tissue formation, acute trauma to the tubal epithelium must first occur followed by a sustained and ultimately fibrotic inflammatory response. Here, we developed drug-eluting fiber-based microparticles that provide tunable dose and release of potent sclerosing agents. This fabrication strategy demonstrates high encapsulation of physicochemically diverse agents and the poten

Injection sclerotherapy for varicose veins.

BACKGROUND: Injection sclerotherapy is widely used for superficial varicose veins. The treatment aims to obliterate the lumen of varicose veins or thread veins. There is limited evidence regarding its efficacy. OBJECTIVES: To determine whether sclerotherapy is effective in improving symptoms and cosmetic appearance and has an acceptable complication rate; to define rates of symptomatic or cosmetic varicose vein recurrence following sclerotherapy. SEARCH STRATEGY: We searched the Cochrane Peripheral Vascular Diseases Group trials register (April 2006), the Cochrane Central Register of Control

Severe hemorrhagic complication of talc pleurodesis for idiopathic pleural effusion.

Talc is a commonly used sclerosing agent for pleurodesis. However, there have been recent reports of a number of complications associated with the use of talc. Although there is significant data regarding the respiratory complications associated with talc, reports of bleeding complications are extremely rare. We present the case of a 78 year-old man who was treated with talc pleurodesis for recurrent pleural effusion and subsequently developed a massive hemothorax, a rare complication.

[Endoscopic sclerosing of esophageal varices--technique, possibilities and limits of the method].

The paper intends to give a survey of the significance of endoscopic sclerotherapy in gastro-esophageal varices. The control of an acute bleeding can be achieved in a high percentage (70-95%). However, the hospital mortality has persisted in 30% depending on early rebleeding episodes and alterations in hepatic function. Controlled trials have confirmed a lowering of rebleeding risk as well as an improved survival by repeated sclerotherapy. The effectiveness of prophylactic sclerosing before the first bleeding is uncertain because of contrary results published. A prophylactic application seems

Endoscopic sclerosis of the cardia affects gastroesophageal reflux.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease remains a disorder of unknown etiology associated with abnormal function of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) and other physiological co-factors of the pathologic reflux. Effective operations for reflux are designed to reinforce the anti-reflux barrier and alter the tendency towards abnormal reflux. We have postulated that the most important component of these procedures is the prevention of distraction of the lowermost components of the LES at the onset of a potential reflux episode. Distraction of the LES causes shortening of the effective sphincter mechani

Treatment of esophageal varices.

The pathophysiology and treatment of esophageal varices are reviewed. The cause of esophageal varices is generally thought to be portal hypertension. The most common cause of portal hypertension in the United States is alcoholic liver disease. Other etiologies of portal hypertension include portal vein thrombosis, schistosomiasis, and inferior vena caval obstruction by tumor or thrombus. Although short-term balloon tamponade and vasopressin infusion will control acute variceal hemorrhage, they do not affect the underlying problem and are not indicated for long-term treatment of esophageal vari

[Percutaneous sclerotherapy of testicular vein insufficiency in persistent and recurrent varicocele].

Among 1217 retrograde phlebographies of left-sided idiopathic varicoceles 66 patients presented because of persistence or recurrence of varicocele, 34 of them after operation and 32 after sclerotherapy. After operation without success there was always - except for one case - a reflux passing the site of ligature. If persistence or recurrence of varicocele occurred after sclerotherapy, the testicular (internal spermatic) vein was most often found to be obliterated at the junction with the renal vein and the sonographically proven reflux went via collaterals or unidentified veins which prevented

Sclerotherapy with tetracycline solution for hydrocele.

A study of sclerotherapy for hydrocele using different concentrations (10%, 5%, 2.5%) for tetracycline solution was done on 24 patients, 23 patients were cured. The effectiveness of sclerotherapy was the same for the three groups of patients with use of each different concentration of the solution. Pain was the only adverse effect. Nonspecific cellular foreign body reaction and fibrin strand proliferation were observed in the hydrocele fluid after this procedure. We consider sclerotherapy for hydrocele with tetracycline solution safe and the procedure of choice for patients in whom surgery or

Bacteremia after endoscopic injection sclerosis.

Endoscopic injection sclerosis is a therapeutic alternative in the management of esophageal varices. Complications of sclerotherapy have been minor, including fever, bacteremia, and abnormal chest x-ray. We performed a prospective study to evaluate the frequency of postsclerosis bacteremia. Bacteremia was detected in 14 procedures (50%). There were no cases of bacteremia in a group of control patients with esophageal varices undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy without sclerosis (p less than 0.05). Bacteremia was transient and unrelated to the presence of fever or other clinical complic
