Deep learning for classification of aggressive versus non-aggressive central giant cell granuloma using whole-slide histopathology images.

Microscopic images of aggressive and non-aggressive cases of central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) were analyzed by deep learning algorithms in order to assess its potential as a tool in predicting the biological behavior of CGCG. CGCGs with cortical expansion/perforation, tooth resorption/displacement, or recurrence were classified as aggressive (A-group; N = 48), CGCGs without these features as non-aggressive (N-group; N = 39). Data on patient age, gender, and jaw location were collected. Hematoxylin-eosin (H&E)-stained sections were scanned at × 10 magnification, yielding 9982 sections (5236

Obesity is associated with increased brain glucose uptake and activity but not neuroinflammation (TSPO availability) in monozygotic twin pairs discordant for BMI-Exercise training reverses increased brain activity.

AIMS: Obesity is associated with increased insulin-stimulated brain glucose uptake (BGU) which is opposite to decreased GU observed in peripheral tissues. Increased BGU was shown to be reversed by weight loss and exercise training, but the mechanisms remain unknown. We investigated whether neuroinflammation (TSPO availability) and brain activity drive the obesity-associated increase in BGU and whether this increase is reversed by exercise training. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twelve monozygotic twin pairs mean age 40.4 (SD) years discordant for BMI (leaner mean 29.1 (SD) 6.3, heavier 36.7 (SD) 7.0

Testing remote feedback using a virtual semi-automated educational tool for the detection of pancreatic tumour-vessel contact on staging CT.

PURPOSE: Assessing tumour-vessel contact in pancreatic adenocarcinoma on CT is challenging for trainees and time-intensive for educators. Semi-automating feedback on this task may optimize radiologist time and standardize resident education. We hypothesized that residents who reviewed expert annotations of tumour-vessel contact would outperform those without feedback on an independent test set. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed pre-operative staging CTs from 60 patients who underwent upfront surgical resection for pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Two resident groups (control and test) independen

Training of parental scaffolding in high-socio-economic status families: How do parents of full- and preterm-born toddlers benefit?

BACKGROUND: Preterm children have an increased risk regarding self-regulation development. Given the strong link between parenting behaviour (i.e., scaffolding and sensitivity) and children's self-regulation, parental training presents a promising way to counteract the negative consequences of preterm birth. AIMS: We explored the effectiveness of parental training by comparing a basic scaffolding training and a combined scaffolding/sensitivity training to an active treatment-control group (stress management). Basic and combined treatments should increase parents' domain-specific self-efficacy
