AIMS: Much research focuses on organizational culture and its impact on customer orientation or emotional states and their impact on job satisfaction and well-being. This study aims to combine the complex roles of nurses' emotion states and job satisfaction in a model that identifies the effects of standards for service delivery (organizational culture), supervisor and co-worker support and the development of customer orientation.
BACKGROUND: A previous study examined the relationships between nurses' personal resources, job satisfaction and customer orientation. This study examines how these

AIMS: To characterize bio-psycho-social factors, particularly mental disorders and self-harm behaviour, associated with the development of diabetic foot ulcers.
METHODS: Two groups of diabetic patients with and without foot ulcers (n=47 in each group) with similar sex, age and diabetes duration were assessed for mental disorders using the Composite International Diagnostic Interview. Self-harm behaviour, quality of life, depressive symptoms and self-compassion were rated using different standard questionnaires.
RESULTS: Patients from the ulcer group visited their practitioners and/or psychot

Football refereeing involves rapid decision-making in dynamic, uncertain, and socially demanding environments. This study examined an integrative cognitive-behavioral model of football refereeing performance, focusing on perceptual processing speed (PPS), attentional control (AC), and social intelligence (SI). Sixty-one male football referees (Mage = 30.04, SD = 4.06) enrolled in a national talent development program across multiple competitive seasons participated in the study. At the beginning of each season, referees completed standardized, ability-based assessments of PPS (processing speed

Understanding the factors that modulate social reward has important implications for conditions characterized by social dysfunction, including autism spectrum disorder and social anxiety disorder. Social isolation is particularly relevant, given rising rates of subjective loneliness and social disconnection in the United States. The present study investigated the impacts of isolation on social reward by testing the effects of single- versus pair-housing on social conditioned place preference (sCPP) in adult male and female Sprague-Dawley rats. Across a ten-day paradigm with eight conditioning

BACKGROUND: Hoarding disorder (HD) is increasingly recognized as a distinct, multifactorial condition. Recent findings in neuroimaging, psychopathology, compulsive acquisition, suicidality, stigma, and social context call for a redefinition of HD beyond its traditional association with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: This narrative review synthesizes recent clinical, neurobiological, and sociocultural literature, including latent class analysis and resting-state fMRI studies, exploring cognitive dysfunction, comorbidities, suicidality, stigma, and environmental context.

PURPOSE: This review seeks to examine the current state of postpartum social support and psychosocial conditions among women around the world, as well as explore the relationship between these factors. Additionally, it aims to propose a logical framework for enhancing postpartum social support and psychosocial conditions in this population.
METHODS: Following the development of a search strategy, two databases, PubMed and Science Direct, were searched for studies published between January 2019 and May 2023. The search was conducted throughout the entire month of May 2023. The risk of bias in

This study investigated the impact of social isolation in Carioca High-Conditioned Freezing (CHF) rats, an animal model of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Animals selected for high (CHF), low trait anxiety (Carioca Low-Conditioned Freezing, CLF), and control rats from randomly bred populations (CTL) were housed in groups or kept isolated in their cages for 14 consecutive days. On the fifteenth day, all animals underwent the Forced Swimming Test (FST), where the latency to immobility was assessed as a depressive-like measure. Under standard grouping conditions, CHF rats showed a shorter lat

Stress is a critical factor in the development of mood and drug use disorders. The social defeat model is not appropriate for female rodents due to their low level of aggression. Therefore, a robust female model of social stress needs to be developed and validated. The aim of the present study was to unravel the long-lasting effects of vicarious social defeat (VSD) on the conditioned rewarding effects of cocaine and ethanol intake in female mice. Although VSD seems to be a good model for inducing behavioral and physiologic endophenotypes induced by stress, there are no studies to date that cha

Elucidating the influence of social context on drug reward is critical for understanding substance use disorders. Adolescents demonstrate enhanced sensitivity to drug and social rewards. However, the extent to which methamphetamine interacts with social reward in adolescents has not been thoroughly examined. Therefore, the present study used the conditioned place preference (CPP) model to examine the relationship between methamphetamine and social rewards in adolescent male rats. Sprague-Dawley rats (PND 30) were randomly assigned to one of the following four conditioning groups: saline alone

Social defeat (SD) induces a long-lasting increase in the rewarding effects of psychostimulants measured using the self-administration and conditioned place procedures (CPP). However, little is known about the epigenetic changes induced by social stress and about their role in the increased response to the rewarding effects of psychostimulants. Considering that histone acetylation regulates transcriptional activity and contributes to drug-induced behavioral changes, we addressed the hypothesis that SD induces transcriptional changes by histone modifications associated with the acquisition of p

OBJECTIVES: This paper presents a description of the methods used in the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project to detect the presence of chronic conditions and diseases associated with aging. It also discusses the validity and distribution of these measures.
METHODS: Markers associated with common chronic diseases and conditions of aging were collected from 3,005 community-dwelling older adults living in the United States, aged 57-85 years, during 2006. Dried blood spots, physical function tests, anthropometric measurements, self-reported history, and self-rated assessments were use

Fast fashion retailers increasingly implement corporate social marketing (CSM) campaigns that encourage consumers to recycle clothing, reduce waste, and adopt more sustainable, responsible consumption practices. Yet their business models depend on the mass consumption these CSM campaigns seek to curb. This contradiction places CSM credibility at the centre of such behaviour-change appeals. Drawing on attribution, source credibility, and social identity theories, this study examines how consumers form judgements of CSM credibility in fast fashion retail and how that credibility shapes customer

BACKGROUND: While the presence of comorbid anxiety disorders such as obsessive-compulsive disorder and panic disorder have been well described in schizophrenia, comorbid social anxiety disorder (SAD) has been less emphasized. The goal of this study was to examine the prevalence of SAD in our ambulatory population of patients with schizophrenia.
METHODS: A group of 50 outpatients with schizophrenia randomly selected from our public mental health outpatient population was evaluated with the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV (SCID)-schizophrenia section, the Positive and Negative Syndrome

OBJECTIVE: To explore the current status of social support and its influence factors among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHAS).
METHOD: The status of social support was measured by Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS). Related factors were collected by self-designed questionnaire and analyzed by multiple stepwise regression.
RESULTS: 294 PLWHAS were selected as the subjects, whose average overall scores of social support were 27.16 +/- 8.04, and were lower than those of the normal. Increased with the growth of the age, PLWHAS tended to obtain less social supports (beta = -0.119) ,and increase

As social and economic conditions are key determinants of HIV, the United States 'National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS)', in addition to care and treatment, aims to address mental health, unemployment, food insecurity, and housing instability, as part of its strategic plan for the 'Ending the HIV Epidemic' initiative. Although mechanistic models of HIV play a key role in evaluating intervention strategies, social conditions are typically not part of the modeling framework. Challenges include the unavailability of coherent statistical data for social conditions and behaviors. We developed a method,
