Social isolation and its influencing factors among family caregivers of individuals with schizophrenia: A social-ecological systems theory perspective.

BACKGROUND: Social isolation adversely affects both physical and mental health. However, limited research has examined this issue among family caregivers of individuals with schizophrenia, particularly within a structured theoretical framework. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of social isolation and explore its associated multilevel factors among family caregivers of individuals with schizophrenia, guided by the Social-Ecological Systems Theory. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted following STROBE guidelines. A total of 267 schizophrenia patients and thei

Social Group Differences in Influencing Factors for Chinese Urban Residents' Subjective Well-Being: From the Perspective of Social Stratification.

With the great pressure of modern social life, the problem of residents' subjective well-being has attracted scholars' attention. Against the background of institutional transformation, China has a special social stratification structure. The socio-economic resources and living needs of different social classes are different, resulting in differences in the level of subjective well-being and the influencing factors for this. Taking Guangzhou as an example, based on the data of a household survey conducted in 2016, this paper obtains the social hierarchical structure through two-step clustering

Social appearance anxiety, perfectionism, and fear of negative evaluation: distinct or shared risk factors for social anxiety and eating disorders?

Social anxiety and eating disorders are highly comorbid. Social appearance anxiety (i.e., fear of negative evaluation of one's appearance), general fear of negative evaluation, and perfectionism have each been proposed as risk factors for both social anxiety disorder and the eating disorders. However, no research to date has examined all three factors simultaneously. Using structural equation modeling in two diverse samples (N=236; N=136) we tested a model in which each of these risk factors were uniquely associated with social anxiety and eating disorder symptoms. We found support for social

Identifying sub-categories of social fears using an alternative factor analytic structure of the Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory.

AIMS: This study evaluates an alternative factor structure of the Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory (Turner et al., 1989), a widely used measure of social anxiety. Existing models ignore variance due to the different social contexts where social fears are expressed. METHOD: Taking a different approach to scoring than previous studies, this investigation proposes a new model, which, in addition to 4-5 symptom dimensions, is able to capture the situations (strangers, authority figures, members of the opposite sex and people in general) that are of concern to the examinee. To test this model,

The Harms of Obesity in Abdominoplasty: Considerations of Methodological and Social Behavioral Factors.

BACKGROUND: Klimitz et al. used the ACS-NSQIP database to conduct an observational cohort study of 1,778 cases on the impact of obesity on 30-day complications after cosmetic abdominoplasty; the study has limitations in four aspects: obesity definition, statistical model, sociodemographics, and preoperative weight-loss recommendations. OBJECTIVE: Without introducing new data, identify the above four methodological issues based solely on the original report to provide directions for future research. METHODS: Re-examined the publicly reported data and descriptions of the 1,778-case ACS-NSQIP c

The impact of environmental and social factors on learning abilities: a meta-analysis.

Since the 1950s, researchers have examined how differences in the social and asocial environment affect learning in rats, mice, and, more recently, a variety of other species. Despite this large body of research, little has been done to synthesize these findings and to examine if social and asocial environmental factors have consistent effects on cognitive abilities, and if so, what aspects of these factors have greater or lesser impact. Here, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis examining how different external environmental features, including the social environment, impact lea

[The social hygienic risk factors to be applied in acute endometritis prognostication].

The article presents the results of investigation of prevalence and prognostic significance of socio-hygienic risk factors of acute endometritis in 187 patients with this disease and 150 patients with non-complicated postnatal period. It is established that development of acute endometritis is associated more with quality of life indices, early (up to 14 years of age) onset of sexual activity, presence in anamnesis of medical and spontaneous abortion. These risk factors should be considered in the process of prognosticating development of acute endometritis.

Factor structure of the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale for Children and Adolescents.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the factor structure of the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale for Children and Adolescents (LSAS-CA). The LSAS-CA was administered to 225 children and adolescents as a component of various clinical studies. In addition, other measures of psychopathology and impairment were administered to a subgroup of the sample. Confirmatory factor analyses of the social interaction and performance subscales for the anxiety and avoidance ratings yielded poor fit indices. Exploratory factor analysis supported a two-factor solution with a higher order factor for the LSAS-

Confirmatory factor analysis of the Fear Questionnaire with social phobia patients.

BACKGROUND: The Fear Questionnaire is an internationally popular measure in anxiety disorder research, but its validity with social phobia patients has not been clearly demonstrated. METHOD: A confirmatory factor analysis was conducted using the Fear Questionnaire responses of 122 social phobia patients. RESULTS: The results indicated that the proposed three-factor model of the scale (agoraphobia, social phobia, and blood/injury dimensions) provided a good fit to the data. CONCLUSIONS: These data provide strong support for the validity of the scale and for the multidimensional view of fears

[Malnutrition in the aged--effect of physical, mental, psychological and social factors].

The elderly are considered a risk group for malnutrition, due not only to poor nutrition, but also to other aspects of daily life which affect food intake and nutritional status. In this study 11 factors of physical, mental, psychical, and social origin have been defined as risk-factors leading to malnutrition. Their appearance in a group of 100 geriatric patients above the age of 75 years has been examined. Immobility and difficulties with chewing were found in nearly 50% of the patients. Social problems were observed in 22%-31%. In contrast, there was usually a daily hot meal available to th

Transdiagnostic factors differentially shape choices and decision times in social evaluative learning.

BACKGROUND: Learning from feedback provided by others is important for navigating complex social environments. Aberrant processing of such social feedback is implicated in the psychopathology of several mental health disorders including social anxiety and depression. Recent psychiatric research increasingly adopts transdiagnostic approaches that examine mechanisms and constructs cutting across traditional diagnostic categories. METHODS: Here, we applied reinforcement learning models together with transdiagnostic measures of psychopathology to formally assess social evaluation learning. Human

Structural social factors modify the association between Alzheimer's pathology and cognitive function.

BACKGROUND: Social factors have been linked to cognitive decline and risk of dementia. However, our understanding of their impact on cognition in the context of Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology is still limited. OBJECTIVES: This study examined whether two structural social factors, relationship status (RS) and living situation (LS), modify the association between AD pathology and cognition. DESIGN: Observational, analysis of existing cohort data. SETTING: Data were obtained from the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC) and the Imaging Dementia-Evidence for Amyloid Scanning (IDE

Factors Influencing the Prevalence of PTSD Tendencies on Social Media During Emergencies.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychological condition that may develop after exposure to severe traumatic events, particularly in unexpected situations characterized by high uncertainty and stress. As social media has become an integral part of daily life, it serves as a platform for sharing personal experiences, emotional expressions, and public responses during emergencies. Grounded in Protection Motivation Theory, this study explores the factors associated with PTSD tendencies expressed on social media during emergencies. Using large-scale user-generated data from social media,
