OBJECTIVE: To analyze the association between socioeconomic factors and FGR in Maya and non-Maya populations in Yucatan, Mexico. METHODS: A total of 21,320 singleton births in 2017 in Yucatan were analyzed. The student's t-test and the chi-square test were used to compare the means and propor

Comprehensive assessment of sociodemographic and behavioral risk factors for Mycoplasma genitalium infection in women.

BACKGROUND: Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis are characterized by different risk factors, thus control strategies for each also differ. In contrast, risk factors for Mycoplasma genitalium have not been well characterized. METHODS: Between 2000 and 2006, 1090 women ages 14 to 45 attending the Public Health-Seattle & King County Sexually Transmitted Diseases Clinic in Seattle, WA, underwent clinical examination and computer-assisted survey interview. M. genitalium was detected by transcription mediated amplification from self-obtained vaginal swab specimens. C. trachomatis and N.

Adolescents aged 14, 16, or 18 years who answered the survey between 1981 and 1997 were in…

Time, Space and Sociodemographic Factors Related to Neonatal Healthcare-associated Infection Rates in Brazil.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare-associated infections (HAI) are a limiting factor for survival of high-risk newborns, especially in low-and middle-income countries. This study aimed to associate time, space, hospital characteristics and sociodemographic factors with the rates of HAI in neonatal intensive care units in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. METHODS: We conducted an ecologic study based on annual rates of central-line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in high-risk nurseries of hospitals included in a statewide surveillance system in Brazil, fr…

Inflammatory, clinical and sociodemographic factors associated with depressive disorder during pregnancy in Brazilian women.

Depressive disorder during pregnancy is common and may be influenced by clinical and immune factors. We conducted a cross-sectional exploratory study of 55 pregnant women receiving care at a public university-affiliated antenatal clinic in Brazil to examine whether inflammatory biomarkers, obstetric history and sociodemographic characteristics were associated with depressive disorder. Depressive disorder was defined using a validated Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale cut-off (score ≥ 13) that showed complete agreement with DSM-5-based diagnoses in this sample. Plasma levels of CXCL16, CCL27

Gender differences in alcohol use disorder treatment: sociodemographic, mental health, personality, and neuropsychological factors.

BACKGROUND: Rates of alcohol use increase among women, and the gender gap in alcohol use disorder (AUD) is narrowing. Earlier studies indicate that there are differences in a variety of demographic and psychological measures between men and women with AUD. Examining differences between treatment-seeking men and women to target the specific needs and effective interventions for women with AUD is thus of vital importance. METHODS: This explorative study investigated differences in sociodemographic characteristics, psychological distress, personality functioning, and cognitive functioning betwee

Sociodemographic and Lifestyle Factors Associated with Adolescent Mental Ill-Health: a Decision Tree Analysis.

Mental ill-health is a leading contributor to adolescent disease burden, with females and socioeconomically disadvantaged youth facing higher rates of mental disorders. Adolescence is a key period for the development of lifestyle risk factors for mental disorder, which are increasingly being recognized as important and novel population-level preventive intervention targets. We used decision trees to examine combinations of sociodemographic factors and the "big six" lifestyle behaviours (poor sleep, physical inactivity, sedentary screen time, poor diet, alcohol use and smoking) prospectively as…
