The role of Sophora alopecuroides alkaloids in colon health of lambs fed high-concentrate diets for extended periods: impact on barrier function, antioxidation, and microflora.

INTRODUCTION: Long-term feeding of a high-concentrate diet can induce subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA) and hindgut acidosis in ruminants. However, at present, most studies focus on reducing rumen injury by adjusting the feed formula, adding buffers, probiotics, or enzyme preparations, and few studies pay attention to hindgut health. Sophora alopecuroides alkaloids have extensive anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. The purpose of this experiment was to study the effects of adding total alkaloids of Sophora alopecuroides (TASA) to a high-concentrate diet on colon barrier function, antioxi

Explanation of the potential mechanism of Sophora flavescens Ait and processed products treating ulcerative colitis based on the analysis method of "chemical composition characterization-target prediction".

Processing is often used to prepare decoctions of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with reduced toxicity and enhanced efficacy. While Sophora flavescens Ait (SFA) is often used directly, processing with rice-washed water (RSFA) was performed in ancient times, and processing with wheat bran (WSFA) is a more modern method. Processing has been shown to enhance the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects of SFA, though the mechanisms underlying this change are unclear. In this study, a total of 106 active components of SFA, RSFA, and WSFA, mostly alkaloid and flavonoid derivatives, were iden

Effects of simulated deposition of acid mist and iron ore particulate matter on photosynthesis and the generation of oxidative stress in Schinus terebinthifolius Radii and Sophora tomentosa L.

Particulate matter is a natural occurrence in the environment, but some industries, such as the iron ore sector, can raise the total amount of particles in the atmosphere. This industry is primarily a source of iron and sulfur dioxide particulates. The effects of the pollutants from the iron ore industries on representatives of restinga vegetation in a Brazilian coastal ecosystem were investigated using physiological and biochemical measures. Two species, Schinus terebinthifolius and Sophora tomentosa, were exposed to simulated deposition of acid mist and iron ore particulate matter in acrylic

Optimization of Enzyme-Assisted Ultrasonic Extraction of a Quercetin-Containing Crude Extract from Sophora japonica Flower Buds and Evaluation of Its In Vitro Antioxidant and Antibacterial Activities.

Flower buds of Sophora japonica are flavonoid-rich edible botanical materials. This study developed an enzyme-assisted ultrasonic protocol for producing a quercetin-containing crude extract. A Box-Behnken design evaluated β-glucosidase concentration, digestion time, and the cellulase-to-pectinase mass ratio. The quadratic model was significant (p < 0.0001; R2 = 0.9848; adjusted R2 = 0.9652). At 14 U/mL β-glucosidase, 72 min of digestion, and a mass ratio of 1.25:1 (w/w), the UV-estimated quercetin-equivalent yield reached 7.34%, compared with 4.17% for ultrasound alone (p < 0.001). HPLC based

Polysaccharides from Flos Sophorae Immaturus ameliorates insulin resistance in IR-HepG2 cells by co-regulating signaling pathways of AMPK and IRS-1/PI3K/AKT.

Four polysaccharides, named FSIP, FSIP-I, FSIP-II and FSIP-III, were isolated from Flos Sophorae Immaturus. Structure characterization revealed that FSIP-I and FSIP-II were types of AG-II-like polysaccharides while FSIP-III featured a RG-II-like structure with high content of GalpA. In vitro experiments showed that FSIPs upregulated HK and PK activities in glycolysis while downregulated G-6-Pase activities in gluconeogenesis. This increased glucose utilization while decreased the glucose synthesis in IR-HepG2 cells, potentially reducing elevated blood sugar levels induced by excess insulin. In

(2S)-2′-methoxykurarinone from Sophora flavescens suppresses cutaneous T cell-attracting chemokine/CCL27 expression induced by interleukin-ß/tumor necrosis factor-α via heme oxygenase-1 in human keratinocytes.

One of the CC chemokines, cutaneous T cell-attracting chemokine (CTACK/CCL27), is a skin-specific CC chemokine that is produced constitutively by keratinocytes and is highly up-regulated in inflammatory skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis and contact dermatitis. (2S)-2′-Methoxykurarinone (MOK) from Sophora flavescens has been demonstrated to have antioxidant effects. Heme oxygenase (HO)-1 has recently emerged as an important cytoprotective enzyme against oxidative stress and inflammatory responses in many cell types. This study aimed to define whether and how MOK regulates skin specific
