Testicular fine needle aspiration: the alternative method for sperm retrieval in non-obstructive azoospermia.

The objective of this prospective open study was to determine the feasibility of obtaining mature spermatozoa for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) by testicular fine needle aspiration (TEFNA) in men diagnosed with non-obstructive azoospermia. TEFNA consisted of a mean of 15 punctures and aspirations in each testis, using 23 gauge butterfly needles, connected to a 20 ml syringe with an aspiration handle. Patients (n = 85) underwent 111 TEFNA cycles. Mature testicular spermatozoa were recovered in 65 (58.5%) cycles from 50 (58.8%) patients. The sperm recovery rate by testicular histology

Use of Collection Condoms to Retrieve Sperms in a Patient with Idiopathic Anejaculation/Anorgasmia and Infertility.

Male factor infertility can be challenging to treat. Anejaculation/anorgasmia in men can be distressing for them specially when it is coupled with fertility desires. Understanding the pathophysiology of the condition requires careful evaluation. Although novel techniques exist to retrieve sperms form men suffering from anejaculation/anorgasmia, simple and inexpensive methods should be tried in every possible case.

Is testicular microdissection the only way to retrieve sperm for non-obstructive azoospermic men?

Men presenting with non-obstructive azoospermia are the most challenging clinical scenario for an infertile couple. Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) with testicular sperm retrieval gave a chance for biological fatherhood once sperm can be found, but unfortunately sperm recovery rate (SSR) is something near 50%, leading to a discussion about what surgical retrieval technique is the best. Historically sperm have been retrieved using conventional Testicular Sperm Extraction (c-TESE), Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA), a combination of Testicular Fine Needle Aspiration (TfNA)/c-TESE, Testi

Identification of capacitation inducers customized to sperm retrieved from inbred mouse epididymis.

Acquisition of sperm capacitation post-ejaculation into the female reproductive tract is an essential step in the fertilization process. Accordingly, during in vitro fertilization, successful fertilization requires the induction of capacitation in epididymis-retrieved sperm. To date, many candidate substances have been considered as capacitation inducers; however, there are no reports on the efficiency of inducing sperm capacitation among the diverse inducers. Therefore, we attempted to determine the inducer with the best capacitation in inbred mouse sperm by comparing the capacitation perform

Sperm retrieval for direct intraperitoneal insemination in a diabetic with retrograde ejaculation. A case report.

Retrograde ejaculation is an uncommon form of male infertility. It may occur in diabetics from neuropathy involving the sympathetic fibers innervating the bladder neck. Treatment of infertility in these cases is with artificial homologous insemination. Several techniques for semen recovery from the bladder have been proposed. This paper describes a case of twin pregnancy following direct intraperitoneal insemination (DIPI) of semen retrieved from a diabetic man with retrograde ejaculation. Retrieval of semen was performed in this case by spontaneous voiding of urine after the introduction of a

Sperm retrieval rates in non-mosaic Klinefelter patients undergoing testicular sperm extraction: What expectations do we have in the real-life setting?

BACKGROUND: A recent meta-analysis (Human Reproduction Update 23, 2017 and 265) reported positive sperm retrieval rates (SRR) in 50% of patients with Klinefelter syndrome (KS) undergoing testicular sperm extraction (TESE). However, these results do not reflect the rates of SR that we observe in clinical practice. We assessed the rate and potential predictors of SR in Klinefelter patients in the real-life setting. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed clinical data of 103 KS men who underwent TESE between 08/2008 and 03/2019 at five tertiary referral Andrology centers. Patients underwent testis u

Comparison of intracytoplasmic sperm injection outcomes in men with spinal cord injury using sperm retrieved by electroejaculation and testicular sperm extraction methods: A retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) face fertility concerns due to various causes, such as low sperm quality and ejaculatory dysfunction. Consequently, different sperm retrieval techniques are used for these cases, including testicular sperm extraction (TESE) and electroejaculation (EE). Clinical and neonatal outcomes have been reported inconsistently between these 2 methods. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the chemical pregnancy, clinical pregnancy, and live birth rate in men with SCI undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection using sperm obtained via EE vs. TESE.

The effect of female age and ovarian reserve on pregnancy rate in male infertility: treatment of azoospermia with sperm retrieval and intracytoplasmic sperm injection.

Factors other than spermatozoa could be the major determinant of the success of assisted reproduction treatment in cases of male infertility. Our aim was to evaluate the effect of the wife's age and ovarian reserve on assisted reproduction success rates in the most severe type of male infertility, i.e. azoospermia. A total of 249 consecutive couples suffering from male infertility caused by azoospermia underwent microsurgical epididymal sperm aspiration (MESA) or testicular sperm extraction (TESE) with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Of these men, 186 had irreparable obstructive azoos
