Introduction. Talaromyces marneffei (TM) is a common opportunistic infection among patients with AIDS, characterized by rapid systemic dissemination and a high mortality rate. Early identification of patients at risk of death is critical to improving clinical outcomes.Hypothesis/Gap Statement. Despite the severity of disseminated TM infection (DPSM), few predictive tools exist to assess mortality risk in affected AIDS patients. A clinical prediction model incorporating novel inflammatory markers may help guide timely intervention.Aim. This study aimed to identify independent risk factors for m

BACKGROUND: Mycobacterium avium (M. avium) is emerging as an opportunistic pathogen and has been grouped with the nontuberculosis mycobacteria (NTM). Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, primarily affects elderly individuals with chronic lung disease and remains one of the leading causes of death in many regions worldwide. Distinguishing between NTM infection and TB is challenging due to similar clinical manifestations and histopathological characteristics. Talaromyces marneffei (T. marneffei) is a pathogenic fungus causing devastating infection, primarily in immunocompromi

Adult-onset immunodeficiency (AOID) mediated by anti-interferon-γ autoantibodies (AIGA) is a rare condition, particularly prevalent in Southeast Asia and southern China. We present a case study of a 62-year-old female with AOID who developed a severe pulmonary infection caused by Talaromyces marneffei (TM), leading to acute respiratory failure, generalized rash, multiple lymphadenopathies, bone destruction, and a mediastinal mass. Treatment included mechanical ventilation, antifungal medication, and corticosteroids, resulting in complete recovery and discharge. This case underscores the challe

BACKGROUND: Talaromyces C. R. Benj., is a large and taxonomically important genus within Ascomycota, established to accommodate the teleomorphs of certain Penicillium Link, species and is now recognized as a monophyletic lineage distinct from Penicillium. Multigene phylogenetic analyses demonstrated that species formerly placed in Penicillium subgenus Biverticillium belong within Talaromyces, leading to their reclassification under the single-name nomenclature system. Currently, the genus comprises 237 species arranged into nine sections supported by multi-locus phylogeny. Species of Talaromyc

BACKGROUND: Due to severe immunosuppression, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected individuals are prone to multiple opportunistic infections and malignancies. This report presents a complex case of a 62-year-old male HIV patient who was diagnosed with co-infections of Talaromyces marneffei, tuberculosis, hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), and ultimately non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphoma. This case provides valuable insights for clinical diagnosis and treatment. The patient was admitted with complaints of “poor appetite, weight loss, and diarrhea for two weeks, accompanied by fever for

Chemical analysis of cultures of a Queensland mud dauber wasp nest-derived fungus, Talaromyces sp. CMB-MW102, yielded the known dimeric oxaphenalenone duclauxin (1) along with a family of new 1-deoxy-d-glucosamine adducts, glyclauxins A-E (2-6). Despite 1D NMR spectra of 2-6 being compromised by broadening of selected resonances, structures inclusive of absolute configuration were assigned on the basis of detailed spectroscopic analysis and biogenetic considerations, as well as biomimetic semisynthesis and chemical interconversion. For example, exposure of duclauxin (1) to synthetic 1-deoxy-d-

A high titer of neutralizing anti-interferon-γ autoantibodies can cause immunodeficiency associated with severe or disseminated infections caused by Talaromyces marneffei in human immunodeficiency virus-negative patients. Herein, we reported a rare case of disseminated Talaromyces marneffei and Burkholderia cepacia infection. The patient's lungs, lymph nodes, and bronchi were involved, and he had neck abscesses and osteomyelitis. We measured the neutralizing anti-interferon-γ autoantibodies in the peripheral blood and found that the patient had a persistently high positive titer. Despite aggre

The pathological and molecular findings associated with Talaromyces marneffei-induced pneumonia with concomitant infection by canine distemper virus (CDV) are described in a dog. The principal pathological alteration occurred in the lungs. Histopathology confirmed multifocal granulomatous pneumonia associated with numerous intralesional and intracellular septate fission cells consistent with T. marneffei. A molecular assay designed to amplify a partial fragment of the 18S rRNA gene of T. marneffei provided positive results from two fungal cultures derived from the lung. Sequencing and phylogen

The life cycle and unique biology of broomrape (Orobanche aegyptiaca) have made the management of this root- parasitic plant one of the greatest challenges in agriculture. The objective of this investigation was to ascertain whether the efficacy of chemical weed control could be enhanced through the inoculation of tomato plants with mycorrhizal and Talaromyces trachyspermus fungus. The combined effect of utilizing these fungi with the sulfonylurea herbicides (rimsulfuron and sulfosulfuron) with two application methods (herbigation and foliar spraying) was investigated in greenhouse and field t

BACKGROUND: Anti-interferon-γ autoantibodies (AIGAs) are associated with adult-onset immunodeficiency syndrome, which makes individuals susceptible to intracellular pathogen infections. However, AIGAs are rarely reported in adolescents.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 13-year-old Chinese boy who presented with fever, cough, and enlarged cervical lymph nodes. Blood cultures yielded Mycobacterium abscessus, and Talaromyces marneffei (TM) was cultured from pericardial effusion. Whole exome sequencing revealed no pathogenic variants. Notably, high levels of neutralizing AIGAs were detected in the

In the Kandi zone of Punjab, India, root and rhizospheric soil samples were collected from the local vegetation near the Shivalik mountain foothills. Fifteen fungal colonies exhibiting distinct cultural morphology on Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) plates were selected for plant-microbe interaction studies. Among these, the isolate HNB9 was identified as a nonpathogenic root colonizer. Morphological and molecular analyses confirmed HNB9 as Talaromyces albobiverticillius, characterized by the secretion of a red pigment as a secondary metabolite. Plants colonized with T. albobiverticillius HNB9 exhib
