This laboratory, and others, have reported multiple radioactive peaks in the size exclusion high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) analysis of 99mTc-labeled peptides. A reliable method for measuring lymph flow in physiological units would be valuable, especially in conditions in which it is uncertain whether lymph flow is increased or decreased. UNLABELLED: The performance of 99mTc Stealth liposomes was investigated in various rat models.
METHODS: Preformed polyethyleneglycol-containing liposomes with encapsulated reduced glutathione, were radiolabeled using the lipophilic 99mTc-HMPAO. The labeled liposomes were intravenously administered to rats with focal S. aureus or E. coli infection, or turpentine-induced inflammation. For comparison, Tc-99m-nanocolloid- and 99mTc-labeled nonspecific IgG were tested. In rats with Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP), Tc-99m-liposomes were directly compared to In-111 labeled nonspecific IgG.

A patient with polymyositis who had cardiac involvement underwent myocardial scan with technetium-99m-pyrophosphate. We used Activity Index for evaluating myocardial uptake of technetium-99m-pyrophosphate, which correlated with the degree of serum creatine phosphokinase elevation. Our findings indicate that these examinations may be helpful for identifying patients who have cardiac involvement and evaluating their response to the treatment with corticosteroids or immunosuppressants.

A patient with pulmonary actinomycosis who unexpectedly showed focal uptake of technetium-99m-hexakis-2-methoxy isobutyl isonitrile and thallium-201 is presented. The appearance of the lesion on the chest radiograph and x-ray CT scan resembled a mediastinal tumor. The diagnosis of pulmonary actinomycosis was achieved by histopathologic examination of the surgically removed mass.

We saw 24 thyrotoxic Graves' patients with normal thyroidal uptake of technetium-99m pertechnetate (99mTc) out of 201 untreated thyrotoxic Graves' patients seen over 4 years. Portal circulation in patients with chronic liver diseases was evaluated by [99mTc]pertechnetate per-rectal scintigraphy. Two cases of mediastinal localization of parathyroid adenoma are presented, in which technetium-thallium subtraction scintigraphy yielded a positive result. Both patients had already undergone a negative surgical neck exploration. We suggest that, in case of negative subtraction scintigraphy and negative surgical exploration in proven primary hyperparathyroidism, subtraction scintigraphy should be repeated with emphasis on the superior mediastinum, and in all cases, the use of a non-zoom, large field of few procedure is recommended for technetium-thallium subtraction scintigraphy.

Technetium-99m-pyridoxylideneglutamate (99mTc-PG) is a nontoxic radiopharmaceutical that was found to undergo rapid biliary excretion in normal humans.
