Dominant depressive temperament and psychological resilience in obsessive-compulsive disorder.

BACKGROUND: This study examined the relationship between obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptom severity and psychological resilience within the framework of dominant depressive temperament (DDT). METHODS: A total of 129 patients with OCD were assessed using the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS), the Resilience Scale for Adults (RSA), and the TEMPS-A questionnaire for temperament evaluation. Participants were classified as having DDT based on both established cut-off scores and standardized z-scores for the depressive subscale. Depression and anxiety levels were measured with

Temperament, anxiety, and depression in school-age children who stutter.

PURPOSE: The main aim of this study was to gain insight into whether temperament and/or stuttering severity were associated with anxiety and depression in children who stutter. Additionally, the study also provided an indication into the prevalence of anxiety and depression in children who stutter in a clinical cohort. METHOD: The participants were 132 English-speaking children (105 boys and 27 girls) between 9;0 and 14;11 years old (M = 11;8, SD = 1;10) and their mothers. At their first visit to a specialist center for children who stutter, mothers and children completed the relevant version

Temperament in Adulthood Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder without Bipolar Disorder.

OBJECTIVE: We examined whether some temperamental traits would be associated with persistence of attention deficit-hyperacitivty disorder (ADHD) in adulthood independent from bipolar disorder (BD). METHODS: Eighty-one ADHD patients without a comorbid diagnosis of BD were divided into two groups, those with childhood ADHD (n=46), and those with Adulthood ADHD (n=35). The severity of childhood and adulthood ADHD were assessed by using the Wender Utah Rating Scale (WURS-25) and Turgay's Adult ADD/ADHD Diagnosis and Evaluation Scale (DES). Subjects' temperamental characteristics were examined usi

Temperament and body weight from ages 4 to 15 years.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: In adulthood, conscientiousness and neuroticism are correlates of body weight and weight gain. The present research examines whether the childhood antecedents of these traits, persistence and negative reactivity, respectively, are associated with weight gain across childhood. We likewise examine sociability as a predictor of childhood weight gain and whether these three traits are associated with weight concerns and weight-management strategies in adolescence. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Participants (N=4153) were drawn from the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children, an ongoi

Abnormal temperament in patients with morbid obesity seeking surgical treatment.

BACKGROUND: Obesity and its related disorders are growing epidemic across the world. Research on links between the bipolar spectrum and obesity has proliferated in the last few years. As some forms of abnormal temperament are considered as subtypes of the soft bipolar spectrum, we aimed to evaluate abnormal temperaments in morbidly obese patients. METHODS: Using a short version of the Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, Paris and San Diego, we investigated abnormal depressive, cyclothymic, hyperthymic, irritable or anxious temperament in 213 patients with morbid obesity compared to a con

Cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between temperament and delusional ideation.

BACKGROUND: Delusional ideation (DI), a dimensional construct ranging from subclinical to clinical severity, refers to beliefs disconnected from reality and persistently held despite contradictory evidence. Worsening subclinical DI has predicted transition to psychosis; thus, identifying enduring risk factors for DI could facilitate targeted prevention. This study will examine which factors of temperament robustly predict DI cross-sectionally, then which further predict DI longitudinally, with aim to inform prevention and future research in delusion-prone individuals. METHOD: In a longitudina

Relationship between anthropometric indices and Mizaj (temperament) in Persian medicine.

BACKGROUND: The process of diagnosis and treatment in Persian medicine (PM) are based on the concept of Mizaj (temperament). Among the indices of Mizaj determination, anthropometric indices are less influenceable regarding age change and other environmental factors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between anthropometric indices and Mizaj. METHODS: Four PM experts determined the Mizaj of 121 participants. Those who had ≥70% agreement in their Mizaj determination by the experts were selected and their anthropometric indices were measured. The best cutoff point of e

Does Personality Matter? Temperament and Character Dimensions in Panic Subtypes.

INTRODUCTION: Symptomatic heterogeneity in the clinical presentation of Panic Disorder (PD) has lead to several attempts to identify PD subtypes; however, no studies investigated the association between temperament and character dimensions and PD subtypes. The study was aimed to verify whether personality traits were differentially related to distinct symptom dimensions. METHODS: Seventy-four patients with PD were assessed by the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview (M.I.N.I.), and the Temperament and Character Inventory (T.C.I.). Thirteen panic symptoms from the M.I.N.I. were includ

Cognitive, Emotional, Temperament, and Personality Trait Correlates of Suicidal Behavior.

Suicide is one of the leading causes of violent death in many countries and its prevention is included in worldwide health objectives. Currently, the DSM-5 considers suicidal behavior as an entity that requires further study. Among the three validators required for considering a psychiatric disorder, there is one based on psychological correlates, biological markers, and patterns of comorbidity. This review includes the most important and recent studies on psychological factors: cognitive, emotional, temperament, and personality correlates (unrelated to diagnostic criteria). We included classi

Boys with fragile X syndrome: investigating temperament in early childhood.

BACKGROUND: Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is an x-linked genetic disorder that represents the most common hereditary cause of Intellectual Disability (ID). Very specific behavioural features (e.g. attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and stereotyped behaviour) are associated with FXS in adolescents and adults, yet research on temperament and behavioural characteristics in young children with FXS has been more limited and less conclusive. METHOD: This study investigated temperament differences in young boys (3-7 years old) with FXS (N = 26) recruited from a national FXS centre and controls (N =

Genetic relationships between temperament traits of sows during pregnancy and lactation.

Group-housed gestating sows face challenging situations, including contact with the stockpersons and aggressive interactions with their pen-mates. During lactation, husbandry procedures may trigger maternal defensive aggression in sows. This study explored the genetic determination of the response to humans and the number of skin lesions resulting from social aggression in gestating Swiss Landrace sows and to estimate their correlations with maternal defensive aggression and piglet survival. During two 12-week periods, gestating sows (parities one to eleven) at four nucleus farms of the breedi

Association between early natural disaster exposure and temperament among Indian preadolescents.

BACKGROUND: Early developmental stages are critical for shaping later life personality traits, such as, temperament. Exposure to natural disasters, as an independent source of prenatal maternal stress, can influence child behavioural outcomes. The pioneering and the other studies on prenatal maternal stress from disasters were conducted in Western societies. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the association of exposure to a severe ND, during prenatal and early postnatal stage, with temperament in preadolescent Indian children. METHOD: We assessed temperament using the EAS Temperament

Prenatal Gut Microbiota Predicts Temperament in Offspring at 1-2 Years.

The purpose of this study was to explore whether prenatal gut microbiota (GM) and its functions predict the development of offspring temperament. A total of 53 mothers with a 1-year-old child and 41 mothers with a 2-year-old child were included in this study using a mother-infant cohort from central China. Maternal fecal samples collected during the third trimester were analyzed using 16S rRNA V3-V4 gene sequences. Temperament of the child was measured by self-reported data according to the primary caregiver. The effects of GM in mothers on offspring's temperament were evaluated using multiple

Genetic risk scores associated with temperament clusters in Finnish depression patients.

OBJECTIVE: Cloninger's temperament dimensions have been studied widely in relation to genetics. In this study, we examined Cloninger's temperament dimensions grouped with cluster analyses and their association with single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). This study included 212 genotyped Finnish patients from the Ostrobothnia Depression Study. METHODS: The temperament clusters were analysed at baseline and at six weeks from the beginning of the depression intervention study. We selected depression-related catecholamine and serotonin genes based on a literature search, and 59 SNPs from ten dif

Prenatal and Intrapartum Factors Associated With Infant Temperament: A Systematic Review.

Background: Temperament involves individual variations in behavioural tendencies of emotional responses and reactions to stimuli after birth. Because 'foetal programming' is a strong hypothesis in developing temperament, prenatal and intrapartum factors may be significant determinants of infant temperament. This systematic literature review aims to elucidate the evidence of prenatal and intrapartum predictors, including genetic, biological, environmental, socio-demographic, psychological, and obstetric factors of parents and their child. Methods: Relevant articles were searched using MEDLINE,
