The Testicular Juvenile Granulosa Cell Tumor (JGCT) is a rare testicular neoplasm that appears in the first months of life as a painless testicular mass. Following an accurate radiological ultrasound diagnosis, through which the cystic appearance of the lesion is observed, and histological confirmation, showing follicular growth pattern and an immunoreactivity for inhibin, the treatment process involves, when feasible, conservative surgery. We present the case of a 2-months old infant with a bilateral JGCT of the testis and we review the classical findings of the patology.

A total of 843 consecutive boys (median age 12.7 years) who had undergone testicular biopsy at operation for undescended testis was followed into adulthood (median age 25.2 years) to examine for testicular germ cell neoplasia. Five cases of testicular germ cell neoplasia were identified, including 1 nonseminoma of the contralateral testis, which had been treated before surgery for an undescended testis, 1 nonseminoma found at followup, 1 seminoma and 2 intratubular germ cell neoplasms. Of the later 3 patients 1 had a 45,X/46,XY karyotype and 2 had abnormal external genitalia. Previous testicul

OBJECTIVE: We present the case of a patient with testicular plasmacytoma as initial presentation of multiple myeloma, and we carry out a literature review of this uncommon pathology.
METHODS: 63 year-old male who consulted for a testicular mass for three months. After clinical and diagnostic studies he underwent radical orchiectomy.
RESULTS: Pathologic study of the specimen revealed the presence of round cells, some with plasmocytic aspect. Immunohistochemical studies gave the final diagnosis of plasmacytoma. Studies on disease extension showed rounded lytic lesions spread over the vault of

BACKGROUND: Juvenile granulosa cell tumors of the testis are rare gonadal stromal tumors of the pediatric age. They represent the most common neoplasms of the testis in the first 6 months of life. A testicular cystic mass is detected, or it can appear as an abdominal or inguinal mass. Differential diagnosis for testicular tumors at this age includes teratoma, simple cyst, epidermoid cyst, lymphangioma and testicular torsion. Association with ambiguous genitalia and sex chromosome abnormalities has been reported. Orchiectomy alone is recommended, because no case of metastasis or recurrence has

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of imaging for correct clinical and therapeutic management of patients with scrotal disease.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between 2000 and 2007, 801 patients with suspected scrotal disease underwent colour Doppler ultrasonography (CDUS) at our centre. In 46 patients, the CDUS study was followed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
RESULTS: CDUS revealed an inflammatory process in 277 patients (34.58%), testicular trauma in 112 (13.9%), funicular torsion or torsion of the vestigial remnant in 44 (5.4%), findings suggestive of testicular

Adenomatoid tumors are rare benign neoplasms thought to be of mesothelial origin. Although most reported cases arise from the epididymis, rare cases have been reported in the spermatic cord, testicular tunica, ejaculatory ducts, prostate, and suprarenal recess. We describe a 4.5-year-old boy who presented with a relatively asymptomatic right testicular mass that was resected and confirmed to be adenomatoid tumor of the testis by histopathology. Because of its rarity, the clinical and histopathologic aspects are discussed.

The diverse non-neoplastic lesions that occur in the paratesticular region and may potentially mimic neoplasms are considered. These include some aspects of normal histology such as a cribriform pattern of the epididymis, bizarre nuclear atypia within epididymal epithelial cells and the presence of Leydig cells outside the testicular parenchyma. Inflammatory changes associated with a hydrocele and a variety of granulomatous and nongranulomatous infectious disorders may mimic a neoplasm on gross evaluation, but should be readily distinguished from them microscopically. This is also the case wit

Adenomatoid tumor of the male genitourinary tract is a rare benign neoplasm thought to be of mesothelial origin. In exceptional cases, these lesions may involve the testicular parenchyma, of which there are only 9 published cases in the literature. The authors describe a rare case of a testicular tumor in a 41-year-old male with normal tumor markers. Histopathology and immunohistochemical studies revealed an adenomatoid tumor with intratesticular growth. No involvement of the epididymis or testicular membranes was identified. The morphological clues leading to the correct diagnosis of adenomat

We report 14 patients with epidermoid cyst of the testis (monodermal teratoma). In 7 patients (5 treated within the last 5 years) the mass was excised and adjacent testicular tissue was biopsied. Seven patients underwent radical inguinal orchiectomy. Carcinoma in situ was not detected in any testicular tissue examined. There was no evidence of tumour recurrence in any patient after a mean follow-up of 10 years. Ultrasonographic appearance was not specific for a diagnosis of epidermoid cyst and exploratory surgery was required in all cases. Excision of the tumour and biopsy of adjacent testicul

A case of retroperitoneal fibrosis involving the testicle is presented. The widespread extent of the retroperitoneal fibrosis syndrome is reviewed briefly. The literature contains little information concerning the aetiology of testicular involvement in the disease process, which generally affects the para-aortic tissues. The physical signs mimic testicular neoplasm. A common embryological derivation of the tissues affected is postulated.

Primary testicular carcinoid tumor, occupying 0.23% of testicular neoplasm, is a rare and indolent neoplasm with the potential for distant metastasis. We present two cases of primary pure carcinoid tumor of the testis. Both patients were 36 years old. Physical examination revealed testicular mass with and without tenderness. The preoperative serum levels of beta-human chorionic gonadotropin and alpha-fetoprotein were normal and neither patient had carcinoid syndrome. The tumors measured 7.5x6x4 cm and 5.5x5x4 cm in size. Histologically, immunohistochemically and ultrastructurally, the tumors s

BACKGROUND: Testicular cancer constitutes 1.0% of male cancer and typically carries a good prognosis. As far as we are aware, the role for hydrogen sulfide in testicular cancer and the level of hydrogen sulfide-synthesizing enzyme have never been addressed. Here we examined cystathionine gamma-lyase (CSE) expression in several germ-cell testicular tumors.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Tissue microarrays were employed to examine CSE expression in 32 benign testicular samples, 88 testicular seminomas, 34 embryonal carcinomas, 4 mature teratomas, and 16 yolk sac tumors, and CSE expression was compared

The authors describe an original observation of secondary intrathoracic metastases due to a malignant adenomatoid tumour or mesothelioma of the testicular tunica vaginalis. The hypothesis of a primary pleural mesothelioma could be excluded here as could secondary pleural deposits from another neoplasm. The exceptionally malign potentialities of this common tumour of the testicular adnexae were reviewed as well as the extremely poor prognosis.

Low-density abdominal and pelvic lymph nodes are seen in nearly half of patients with testicular cancers. Thoracic low-attenuation metastases are much less common. Three cases of low-density metastases to lung parenchyma and mediastinal nodes are presented. In a man of appropriate age, a low-attenuation pulmonary or mediastinal mass should prompt a search for a primary testicular neoplasm.

There have been considerable recent advances in our understanding of the genetic predisposition to testicular tumors. In germ cell tumors derived from germ cell neoplasia in situ, which comprise the majority (approximately 95%) of primary testicular neoplasms, research has firmly established a polygenic model of inheritance where risk is not conferred by single high-penetrance genes but rather by the cumulative impact of numerous common, low-penetrance risk alleles. These susceptibility loci have been identified primarily through genome wide association studies and involve genes in pathways in

BACKGROUND: The complete androgen insensitivity (testicular feminization) syndrome was described in phenotypic females with 46XY karyotype, presenting with primary amenorrhea, adequate breast development, and absent or sparse pubic or axillary hair. Gonads consist usually of seminiferous tubules without spermatogenesis.
CASE: We report the case of a 15-year-old girl with testicular feminization since age 4. She was admitted to surgically remove the testes from the inguinal canal. Microscopic examination of the left testis revealed a Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor and the draft of fallopian tube wi

BACKGROUND: Germ-cell testicular cancer has not been definitively linked to any known hereditary cancer susceptibility disorder. Familial testicular cancer in the presence of other findings in affected and unaffected family members might indicate a previously-unidentified hereditary cancer syndrome.
CASE PRESENTATION: The patient was diagnosed with a left testicular seminoma at age 28, and treated with left orchiectomy followed by adjuvant cobalt radiation. His family history is significant for testicular seminoma in his son, bladder cancer in his sister, and lipomatosis in his father. His ev
