Coagulation changes after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can provide evidence for optimization of timing of perioperative anticoagulation medicine. To evaluate the changes, 50 patients with knee osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis were recruited for the study and underwent thrombelastography tests pre-, 6 hours, 12 hours, and 24 hours after TKA surgery and Doppler ultrasound examination 20 to 24 hours after surgery. The results have shown prolonged clotting time (R value) at 6 and 12 hours, while shortened at 24 hours. Similar results have been found in combined clotting and coagulation time

BACKGROUND: Artificial colloids affect haemostasis. Particularly hydroxyethyl starch (HES) solutions may have detrimental effects on haemostatic mechanisms.
METHODS: In a crossover study blood was withdrawn from ten volunteers. Ringer's acetate, 6% low molecular weight HES (MW 120,000/molar substitution ratio 0.7), 10% low molecular weight HES MW 200,000/0.5) and 6% high molecular weight HES (MW 400,000/0.7) or 4% albumin was added to venous blood samples to make either 20 vol.% or 50 vol.% concentrations of each of the solutions. Samples were analyzed by thrombelastography (TEG).

Dengue mortality remains high despite monitoring against warning signs (WS). UNLABELLED: Warfarin overdose with unmeasurable values of the prothrombin time (PT-INR) is a significant problem in the preoperative preparation of the patient for acute invasive surgery.
