Influence of one-wall remaining coronal tooth with resin abutment and fiber post on static and dynamic fracture resistance.

The objective of this study was to determine the influence of height and thickness of the one wall remaining coronal tooth structure on the fracture resistance of an endodontically treated root with resin abutment build-up using resin composite and fiber-reinforced resin composite post. Static and dynamic fracture tests were performed by placing the remaining tooth wall on the tensile side and applying loads at an angle of 30° from the tooth axis. Superior static fracture resistance was observed when the wall remaining on the tooth had a height and thickness greater than 1.0 mm. The dynamic fa

Influence of access cavity design on fracture strength of endodontically treated lower molars.

To assess whether access cavity design influences the fracture strength of endodontically treated and restored molars. Fifty human lower molars with standard crown dimensions were selected and assigned to the following groups: S - positive control (healthy tooth), ET - negative control (conventional endodontic access (CEA) and no restoration), NI - negative control (minimally invasive endodontic access (MEA) and no restoration), ETR (CEA + restoration with Bulkfill flow) and NIR (MEA + restoration with Bulkfill flow). The specimens were subjected to a compression test. The teeth were inspected

Treatment of Oral Disease in Eight Pet Pot-Bellied Pigs (Sus scrofa domesticus): A Case Series.

Evidence of porcine oral pathology in client-owned domestic pigs has been reported in recent literature. The most common abnormalities are missing teeth and periodontal disease. This case series reviews the diagnosis and treatment of dental disease in 8 pet Vietnamese Pot-Bellied Pigs (Sus scrofa domesticus) over a 6-year period (2015-2021). Inclusion criteria included pigs over 1 year of age that had at least 2 sequential visits involving photographs, full-mouth intraoral radiographs, and dental charting. Eight pigs were identified for study inclusion. The study population included 4 castrate

Dentigerous cyst of mandibular second premolar in a five-year-old girl, related to a non-vital primary molar removed one year earlier: a case report.

A dentigerous cyst of the mandibular second premolar in a 5-year-old female was radiographically diagnosed. A non-vital primary predecessor molar had been removed a year earlier. At that time, the primary molar had been in the mouth for approximately two years. Although there was the possibility of the premolar being non-vital, as a consequence of the cystic cavity surrounding it, marsupialization treatment of the cyst was done, causing a rapid development of the premolar. Structural irregularities in the enamel and in the first radicular portion were visible, possibly caused by the very early

Orthodontic movement of a horizontally fractured tooth: a case report.

Intra-alveolar root fractures are relatively uncommon, and sometimes may be healed without treatment. Diagnosis of intra-alveolar root fracture is frequently made by exclusion of clinical signs of other traumatic injury, and by radiographic examination with films taken at different tube angulations. This case report presents a horizontal root fractured tooth that was healed satisfactory without treatment and moved orthodontically after prolonged time from trauma.

Saving a hopeless tooth with a four-wall bone defect: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Recombinant human fibroblast growth factor-2 (rhFGF-2) has been shown to effectively promote the formation of new periodontal tissues, and its efficacy has been demonstrated in clinical settings. Moreover, the clinical and radiographic outcomes in the treatment of periodontal infrabony defects can be improved by using rhFGF-2 in combination with a bone substitute. Here, we present a case of four-wall bone defect in a tooth treated by combination regenerative therapy using rhFGF-2 and beta-tricalcium phosphate (βo-TCP). METHODS: A 43-year-old male with a four-wall bone defect in to

Treatment of large jaw bone cysts in children.

Odontogenic cysts are classified into 2 main types based on their formation mechanism: inflammatory and developmental. Radicular cysts are the most common inflammatory cysts, while dentigerous cysts are developmental cysts. We report 2 radicular cysts that developed at the apices of nonvital primary teeth and 2 dentigerous cysts. All 4 patients were young girls who experienced swelling in the mandibular molar region. Panoramic radiographs revealed a large cyst under the primary second molar, displacing the permanent second premolar or first molar to near the mandible's lower border. The treatm

The ability of cone-beam computerized tomography to detect vertical root fractures in endodontically treated and nonendodontically treated teeth: a report of 3 cases.

A definitive diagnosis of vertical root fracture (VRFs) is often a challenging task for clinicians. Two-dimensional periapical radiographs (PRs) may be not helpful in such a diagnosis when the x-ray beam is not parallel to the plane of the fracture line. This report presents a set of 3 cases in which 1 endodontically treated and 2 nonendodontically treated mandibular molars were diagnosed with VRFs based on findings from clinical, radiographic, and cone-beam computerized tomographic (CBCT) examinations. After extraction, VRFs were confirmed in all of the teeth. Deep and narrow periodontal pock

Comparison of mandibular premolars and canines with respect to their resistance to vertical root fracture.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the force required to vertically fracture uninstrumented and instrumented mandibular premolars and canines. METHODS: Two groups of single round-canal mandibular premolars and two groups of single oval-canal mandibular premolars were selected after radiographs indicated an internal long:short diameter of 1 or >2 at a level 5 mm from the apex. In addition, two groups of maxillary and mandibular canines were selected. The root canals of three of these groups (one from each category) were conventionally enlarged using same-sized instruments, while the other three groups were

Reattachment of endodontically treated lateral incisor with supragingivally complicated crown fracture using fiber-reinforced post.

Re-restoring endodontically treated teeth with complicated crown or crown root fractures is a major challenge for dental practitioners, because they can present difficulties for successful treatment. This report describes the management of supragingivally complicated crown fracture of an endodontically treated maxillary lateral incisor. The involved tooth was restored with the reattachment procedure using light transmitting fiber post. After 11 months, the reattached tooth had a satisfying function, favorable physiological and esthetic outcomes and healthy surrounding periodontal structures.

Effect of endodontically treated teeth on prosthetically guided orthodontics with clear aligners: a case series.

BACKGROUND: Prosthetically guided orthodontics (PGO) can correct the malocclusion for better prosthetic rehabilitation in esthetic rehabilitation. Unlike conventional orthodontic treatment, only minor tooth movement is designed in PGO according to the requirement of subsequent restoration. For better appearance during the treatment, PGO is often performed with clear aligners, which have no metal brackets. It has been proven that the PGO with clear aligners can achieve generally satisfactory outcomes. However, its risk has not been fully known due to the paucity of relevant studies. CASE PRESE
