PURPOSE: According to the literature transurethral resection of the prostate in patients with Parkinson's disease has an increased risk of postoperative urinary incontinence. However, this conclusion might have been reached because some patients with multiple system atrophy incorrectly diagnosed as Parkinson's disease were included in these reports. Therefore, we investigated the outcome of transurethral prostate resection in patients with a secure neurological diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 23 patients with Parkinson's disease who underwent transurethral

Combination of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with chronic calculous prostatitis aggravates clinical symptoms of BPH and complicated its treatment. Pronounced dysuria, persistent pain are highly resistant to conventional chemotherapy. Prostatic stones promoted emergence of sclerotic and purulent complications impeding surgical treatment of BPH. Unsatisfactory results of transurethral resection (TUR) in BPH with chronic calculous prostatitis are attributed to impossibility to remove all the concrements. Visual control in TUR cannot localize the stones. Deep resection of the prostate at the

BACKGROUND: Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a leading cause of lower urinary tract symptoms and bladder outlet obstruction in ageing men. Transurethral resection of the prostate remains a benchmark surgical treatment, although contemporary practice has been challenged by less invasive techniques. We aimed to evaluate real-world effectiveness and safety outcomes of transurethral resection of the prostate for benign prostatic obstruction.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Single-center, retrospective, observational cohort study including all consecutive patients who underwent TURP between October 2020 and

OBJECTIVE: Vesical perforation during transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is usually related to high increases in intravesical pressure. However, it may rarely be related to explosion precipitated by the contact of the electrocautery with some gases produced during the resections. The authors present a case of vesical explosion, discuss its mechanism and suggest some measures for prevention.
METHODS/RESULTS: A 71-years-old male underwent TURP and hemostasy of bleeding from the bladder neck due to persistent hematuria. A wire loop electrode set at a cutting and coagulating current o

A total of 84 patients underwent detailed symptom analysis and urodynamic study preoperatively, and 3 and 12 months after transurethral resection of the prostate. In addition, 69 patients were contacted 3 years postoperatively for a detailed symptom analysis. These 3-year data then were compared to earlier evaluations. At 3 years 75 per cent of the patients claimed to have improvement, while 13 per cent stated that they were the same symptomatically. At the 1-year evaluation 84 per cent of the patients believed that they were improved and 10 per cent stated that they were unchanged. At 3 years

INTRODUCTION: Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) compromise the mainstay surgical treatment of LUTS due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The storage symptoms post TURP may be attributed to urinary tract infection (UTI), preoperative detrusor over-activities, and residual prostatic adenoma causing voiding symptoms.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 56 year old male presented storage LUTS (mainly frequency and urgency) since two years. Two years earlier, he underwent uncomplicated monopolar TURP. The patient has occasional straining and intermittent urine. No history of hematuria. No no

BACKGROUND: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common disease in elderly males, and many kinds of minimally invasive procedures can be used for the treatment of BPH. However, various procedures have caused some controversies regarding clinical outcomes, so more studies are needed to validate these controversial topics.
AIMS: This study aimed to explore differences of clinical efficacy, surgical features, and complications between transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and plasmakinetic enucleation of the prostate (PKEP) for BPH.
METHODS: A total of eligible 850 cases of BPH unde

Multilocular prostatic cystadenoma (MPC) is a rare benign tumor that originates from the prostate itself. MPC is usually characterized by large multilocular cysts located between the rectum and bladder. The clinical presentation includes obstructive voiding symptoms, such as poor stream, intermittency, sensation of incomplete emptying, acute urinary retention and sometimes constipation symptoms due to mechanical compression of the lower intestine. Most of the previously reported patients with MPC underwent open surgery. Although the natural history of MPC remains unknown, surgical excision may

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) on lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) complicated by histological prostatitis.
METHODS: This study included 432 cases of BPH pathologically confirmed after TURP. Excluding those with LUTS-related factors before and after surgery and based on the international prostatitis histological classification of diagnostic criteria, the remaining 144 cases were divided into groups A (pure BPH, n = 30), B (mild inflammation, n = 55), C (moderate inflammation, n = 31

The spectrum of pathogens causing chronic bacterial prostatitis comprises Gram-negative, Gram-positive and atypical microorganisms. Because of its broad spectrum of activity, the group 4 fluoroquinolone moxifloxacin might be a suitable antibiotic for treatment of bacterial prostatitis. The aim of this prospective study was to investigate the penetration of moxifloxacin into prostatic tissue in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Patients received a single dose of moxifloxacin 400 mg in an 1 hour lasting infusion (250 ml) for perioperative prophylaxis before undergoing transurethral res

The quality of life (QOL) after transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) was studied. A total of 113 patients were operated and released, and 86 (76%) cases responded to the TURP follow-up survey. The average age was 69 years and the average time elapsed after the operation was 220 days. Data regarding the patients undergoing TURP was gathered from a questionnaire consisting of 22 questions concerning the preoperative condition and 28 about the post-operative state. Performance status was not changed post-TURP. The patients showed improvements in nocturia, pollakisuria and dysuria. These

OBJECTIVE AND METHODS: We analyzed preoperative and postoperative urodynamic parameters in 26 patients who underwent transurethral prostatic resection with the aid of a computer program. The parameters URA, W and Wmax were evaluated: URA affords a monitoring of the removal of obstruction, while Wmax and W function monitor changes in detrusor contractility, which appear significant after prostatic resection in obstructed patients.
RESULTS: Many patients had a fading contraction, that is detrusor contractility decreased during micturition: in most of them the removal of obstruction restored thi
