Thirty-five patients with central and radial lesions of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) were treated by arthroscopic resection and debridement. Their median age was 36 years (range 11-52), and preoperative duration of symptoms 18 months (range 4-132). Fall on a hyperextended wrist was the most common injury (n = 15), and nine patients had had a previous fracture of the radius. Eighteen patients had an additional arthroscopic debridement of coexisting chondral lesions. There were no complications. At a median follow up time of 39 months (range 18-58), grip strength was recorded as

Background: Triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) disruption and extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) instability are common concomitant injuries. This study presents outcomes of simultaneous open TFCC repairs with ECU stabilisation. Methods: This retrospective cohort study reviewed patients with symptomatic distal radio-ulnar joint (DRUJ) instability and ECU subluxation who underwent simultaneous open repair of the TFCC and ECU stabilisation between 2014 and 2016. Patients were diagnosed clinically, and TFCC tear and ECU subluxation were confirmed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultraso

BACKGROUND: Triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) injuries commonly manifest as ulnar-sided wrist pain and can be associated with distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability and subsequent wrist functional decline. This study aimed to assess the diagnostic value of MRI compared to wrist arthroscopy in identifying traumatic TFCC injuries and to determine the distribution of different TFCC injury subtypes in a normal clinical setting.
METHODS: The data of 193 patients who underwent both preoperative wrist MRI and wrist arthroscopy were retrospectively reviewed. The analysis focused on the pro

The ulnocarpal ligament complex (UCLC), consisting of the ulnotriquetral, ulnolunate, and ulnocapitate ligaments, plays a pivotal role in maintaining ulnocarpal joint stability and is closely linked to the palmar radioulnar ligament (PRUL), preventing dorsal ulnar translation. Often, tears in the PRUL and UCLC coincide with lunotriquetral interosseous ligament (LTIL) tears as the result of their strong anatomical connections. Biomechanical studies have demonstrated that ulnar-shortening osteotomy enhances stability in the distal radioulnar joint, lunotriquetral joint, and UCLC by tightening th

INTRODUCTION: wrist ligament injuries and triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) lesions are common but often underdiagnosed conditions causing chronic wrist pain. The diagnostic challenge necessitates a combination of clinical examination, imaging studies, and arthroscopy, considered the gold standard. Ligament injuries, particularly scapholunate ligament (SL), and TFCC lesions account for significant wrist instability and ulnar-sided wrist pain, respectively.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: this retrospective observational study, conducted at Hospital Ángeles Pedregal, Mexico City, aimed to assess

Background Few studies have reported the clinical results of arthroscopic debridement and thermal shrinkage for partial lunotriquetral (LT) ligament injury. Purpose We estimated the outcomes of arthroscopic thermal shrinkage of a traumatic LT ligament incomplete tear without triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) perforation. Methods We evaluated the results of 24 patients. The mean follow-up was 16 months. Radiographs were examined for ulnar variance (UV) and radioulnar distance on a true lateral radiograph, and wrist function was assessed based on grip strength, Mayo wrist score, and Di

Ulnocarpal impaction or ulnar abutment symptom occurs secondary to abnormal load bearing on the ulnar side of the wrist leading to pain symptoms and degeneration of the structures of the ulnocarpal joint. The two classical surgical methods used to address this problem are ulnar shortening osteotomy and the wafer procedure, which can either be open or arthroscopic. With the advent of arthroscopy, with surgeon harboring arthroscopy skills, arthroscopic wafer resection has been intensely popularized which requires a central perforation of the triangular fibrocartilage to approach the ulna dome th

BACKGROUND: Ulnar-sided wrist pain might be caused by a lesion of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC). Patients with TFCC lesion may show an instability of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ). Before arthroscopic assessment, conservative therapy using a brace or splint may result in alleviation of symptoms. The results of our previous study showed that patients with a traumatic TFCC lesion and instability of the DRUJ had the smallest weight-bearing capacity and had the largest increase in application of the wrist brace (WristWidget).
PURPOSE: In this prospective study, we wanted to te

INTRODUCTION: Triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) injuries are associated with distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability and impaired wrist proprioception. Sensorimotor training of extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) and pronator quadratus (PQ) can enhance DRUJ stability. With limited evidence on effectiveness of TFCC sensorimotor rehabilitation, this study aimed to evaluate the effects and feasibility of a novel wrist sensorimotor rehabilitation program (WSRP) for TFCC injuries.
METHODS: Patients diagnosed with TFCC injuries were recruited from May 2018 to January 2020 at an outpatient hand c

INTRODUCTION: Injury to the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) may cause chronic wrist pain and instability if left untreated. The current literature of adult cases suggests that arthroscopic treatment offers favorable outcomes and is associated with a low complication rate. This systematic review evaluated the outcomes of arthroscopic TFCC surgery in adolescents.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A PRISMA-guided literature search of PubMed, Medline, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Cochrane Clinical Answers was conducted

PURPOSE: Arthroscopic repair of a peripheral triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) tear is a promising, minimally invasive surgical technique, especially in patients with symptomatic distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical result of arthroscopic one-tunnel transosseous foveal repair for peripheral TFCC tears.
METHODS: Sixteen patients who underwent TFCC foveal repair were retrospectively evaluated. The mean follow-up period was 31.1 months. The torn TFCC of all patients was repaired with the arthroscopic one-tunnel transosseous fov

BACKGROUND: Ulnar shortening osteotomy often is indicated for treatment of injuries to the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC). However, the effect of ulnar shortening osteotomy on the changes in shape of the TFCC is unclear. In our study, quantitative evaluations were performed using MRI to clarify the effect of ulnar shortening on triangular fibrocartilage (TFC) thickness attributable to disc regeneration of the TFC and TFC angle attributable to the suspension effect of ulnar shortening on the TFC.

PURPOSE: We describe a variant of triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) tears in which the superficial fibers attaching to the ulnar capsule are torn, with preservation of deep fibers inserting on the fovea. We present the clinical and magnetic resonance imaging findings and the results of arthroscopic repair in patients with this injury.
METHODS: Twenty-nine wrists were treated arthroscopically for peripheral TFCC tears with outside-in suture repair of the TFCC to the ulnar capsule. A retrospective review of all cases was performed to assess the physical examination, magnetic resonance im

PURPOSE: Pathology of the triangular fibrocartilage complex is a prevalent cause of ulnar-sided wrist pain that presents a diagnostic challenge. We hypothesized that a history and physical examination (H&P) would be more cost-effective alone or with diagnostic injection than with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or magnetic resonance arthrogram (MRA) in the diagnosis and treatment of a symptomatic triangular fibrocartilage complex abnormality.
METHODS: A simple-chain decision analysis model was constructed to assess simulated subjects with ulnar-sided wrist pain and normal radiographs using s

UNLABELLED: This study examined the reliability of surgeons' estimations as to whether central lesions of the triangular fibrocartilage complex were traumatic or degenerative. A total of 50 consecutive central triangular fibrocartilage complex lesions were independently rated by ten experienced wrist surgeons viewing high-quality arthroscopy videos. The videos were reassessed after intervals of 3 months; at the second assessment surgeons were given the patient's history, radiographs and both, each in a randomized order. Finally, the surgeons assessed the histories and radiographs without the v
