Investigating organizational resilience in a medicine and health sciences university in United Arab Emirates.

INTRODUCTION: COVID-19 pandemic emerged in late 2019, leading to global disruption and forcing people to adapt to a new reality. The intensity of the pandemic affected many organisations' preparedness, response, and recovery efforts, causing numerous businesses to struggle. Although no single theory fully explains why some businesses thrived during this time, the concept of organisational resilience stands out. Organisations with a resilient culture seemed better equipped to address risks, adapt effectively, and seize opportunities for innovation. Therefore, the purpose of the current study is

Novel mutations in ADAMTSL2 gene underlying geleophysic dysplasia in families from United Arab Emirates.

BACKGROUND: Geleophysic dysplasia (GD) is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by short stature, brachydactyly, stiff joints, thick skin, and cardiac valvular abnormalities that are often responsible for early death. Mutations in ADAMTSL2 and FBN1 genes have been shown to cause GD due to the dysregulation of transforming growth factor-β signaling pathways. Small numbers of mutations in ADAMTSL2 have been reported so far in patients with GD type 1 (GD1). METHODS: In this study, we clinically evaluated two children from two consanguineous Arab families living in the United Arab Emirate

CTX-M-15-producing multidrug-resistant enteroaggregative Escherichia coli in the United Arab Emirates.

Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) production was demonstrated in five independent, multidrug-resistant isolates of enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) from the United Arab Emirates, representing 11.3% of the EAEC isolates recovered during 1 year. All five isolates carried the bla(CTX-M-15) and the bla(TEM-1) genes, the former positioned 48 bp downstream of an ISecp1 element. In two isolates, the bla(CTX-M-15 )and bla(TEM-1) genes were located on a 95-kb plasmid. This is the first detailed description and characterisation of ESBL production in enteroaggregative E. coli and also the

Esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula: success and failure rates in the United Arab Emirates.

The management of esophageal atresia (EA) and tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) has improved markedly over the years, with a current overall survival of 80%-90%. This however, is not the case in developing countries, where mortality continues to be high. The results of treatment of 41 consecutive cases EA and/or TEF have been analyzed to determine factors pertinent to the outcome. The distribution of anomalies and a postoperative survival of 86.8% were comparable to those from developed countries. Aspiration pneumonia was unusually frequent in our patients (78%), but did not adversely influence

Serotypes of group A streptococci isolated from healthy schoolchildren in the United Arab Emirates.

Group A streptococci (GAS) are the most frequent cause of pharyngitis in children and are a common cause of emergency room or paediatric clinic visits worldwide. This study determined the representative M and T types of GAS, and their distribution, among schoolchildren in the United Arab Emirates. Throat swabs were taken and cultured for GAS isolates during the winter of 1994-95 from 1000 children aged 5-7 years attending nine schools. Of the isolates obtained, 100 were serotyped using standard techniques. Nearly all these isolates (91%) were T typable, falling into 15 T types; the commonest b

Exploring the Perception of Continuity of Care in Midwifery in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Background Continuity of care (COC) in midwifery refers to a model in which a known midwife provides ongoing support to a woman throughout her pregnancy, labor, and postpartum period. This approach is believed to enhance the overall quality of care and support positive experiences for both mothers and newborns. However, its implementation varies globally, and it is not widely adopted in some regions, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This study explored the feasibility and perception of midwifery-led COC in Abu Dhabi and assessed its potential to reduce hospital readmissions. Methodolo
