Blood Pressure and Heart Rate Patterns Identified by Unsupervised Machine Learning and Their Associations with Subclinical Cerebral and Renal Damage in a Japanese Community: The Masuda Study.

We applied unsupervised machine learning to analyze blood pressure (BP) and resting heart rate (HR) patterns measured during a 1-year period to assess their cross-sectional relationships with subclinical cerebral and renal target damage. Dimension reduction via uniform manifold approximation and projection, followed by K-means++ clustering, was used to categorize 362 community-dwelling participants (mean age, 56.2 years; 54.9% women) into three groups: Low BP and Low HR (Lo-BP/Lo-HR), High BP and High HR (Hi-BP/Hi-HR), and Low BP and High HR (Lo-BP/Hi-HR). Cerebral vessel lesions were defined

The role of α-hydroxybutyrate in modulating sepsis progression: identification of key targets and biomarkers through multi-database data mining, machine learning, and unsupervised clustering.

BackgroundSepsis remains a major cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Recent studies suggest that gut microbiota-derived metabolites, such as α-hydroxybutyrate (α-HB), may play a critical role in the progression of sepsis. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying α-HB's involvement in sepsis remain unclear. This study aims to explore the targets of α-HB and their association with sepsis progression using multi-database data mining, machine learning, and unsupervised clustering analyses.Methodsα-HB-related targets were identified through comprehensive data mining from three databases

Search for New Phenomena in Two-Body Invariant Mass Distributions Using Unsupervised Machine Learning for Anomaly Detection at sqrt[s]=13  TeV with the ATLAS Detector.

Searches for new resonances are performed using an unsupervised anomaly-detection technique. Events with at least one electron or muon are selected from 140  fb^{-1} of pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV recorded by ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider. The approach involves training an autoencoder on data, and subsequently defining anomalous regions based on the reconstruction loss of the decoder. Studies focus on nine invariant mass spectra that contain pairs of objects consisting of one light jet or b jet and either one lepton (e,μ), photon, or second light jet or b jet in the anomalous regions

Exploration of the mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine by AI approach using unsupervised machine learning for cellular functional similarity of compounds in heterogeneous networks, XiaoErFuPi granules as an example.

'Polypharmacology' is usually used to describe the network-wide effect of a single compound, but traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a polypharmacological effect naturally based on the 'multi-components, multi-targets and multi-pathways' principle. It is a challenge to investigate the polypharmacology mechanism of TCM with multiple components. In this study, we used XiaoErFuPi (XEFP) granules as an example to describe an unsupervised learning strategy for polypharmacology research of TCM and to explore the mechanism of XEFP polypharmacology against multifactorial disease function dyspepsia

Unsupervised Machine Learning in Countermovement Jump and Isometric Mid-Thigh Pull Performance Produces Distinct Combat and Physical Fitness Clusters in Male and Female U.S. Marine Corps Recruits.

INTRODUCTION: Several challenges face the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) and other services in their efforts to design recruit training to augment warfighter mobility and resilience in both male and female recruits as part of an integrated model. Strength and power underpin many of the physical competencies required to meet the occupational demands one might face in military. As the military considers adopting force plate technology to assess indices of strength and power, an opportunity presents itself for the use of machine learning on large datasets to deduce the relevance of variables related to

Unsupervised person re-identification via camera-aware multi-level label refinement.

Unsupervised person re-identification (re-ID) aims to match individuals across camera views without manual annotations, making it a challenging yet promising task. Although recent methods have made notable progress by leveraging pseudo-labels, two key challenges remain insufficiently addressed: (1) the inherent noise in pseudo-labels stemming from clustering, and (2) the limited discriminability of features resulting from camera variation. To address these issues, we propose a camera-aware multi-level label refinement (CMLR) framework, which jointly refines labels at both cluster and instance

Heterogeneity in Blood Biomarker Trajectories After Mild TBI Revealed by Unsupervised Learning.

Concussions, also known as mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), are a growing health challenge. Approximately four million concussions are diagnosed annually in the United States. Concussion is a heterogeneous disorder in causation, symptoms, and outcome making precision medicine approaches to this disorder important. Persistent disabling symptoms sometimes delay recovery in a difficult to predict subset of mTBI patients. Despite abundant data, clinicians need better tools to assess and predict recovery. Data-driven decision support holds promise for accurate clinical prediction tools for mTBI

Unsupervised Learning Techniques for the Investigation of Chronic Rhinosinusitis.

OBJECTIVES: This article reviews the principles of unsupervised learning, a novel technique which has increasingly been reported as a tool for the investigation of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). It represents a paradigm shift from the traditional approach to investigating CRS based upon the clinically recognized phenotypes of "with polyps" and "without polyps" and instead relies upon the application of complex mathematical models to derive subgroups which can then be further examined. This review article reports on the principles which underlie this investigative technique and some of the publi

Supervised and unsupervised learning reveal heroin-induced impairments in astrocyte structural plasticity.

Astrocytes regulate synaptic activity across large brain territories via their complex, interconnected morphology. Emerging evidence supports the involvement of astrocytes in shaping relapse to opioid use through morphological rearrangements in the nucleus accumbens (NAc). However, a comprehensive assessment of astrocyte structural diversity within and between NAc subdivisions is lacking because of limitations in existing methodologies to quantify meaningful alterations in astrocyte structure. We developed a methodological pipeline that integrates supervised and unsupervised learning technique

Learning Microbial Community Structures with Supervised and Unsupervised Non-negative Matrix Factorization.

BACKGROUND: Learning the structure of microbial communities is critical in understanding the different community structures and functions of microbes in distinct individuals. We view microbial communities as consisting of many subcommunities which are formed by certain groups of microbes functionally dependent on each other. The focus of this paper is on methods for extracting the subcommunities from the data, in particular Non-Negative Matrix Factorization (NMF). Our methods can be applied to both OTU data and functional metagenomic data. We apply the existing unsupervised NMF method and also
