OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to describe a novel negative-pressure laser lithotripsy device to overcome the deficiencies of the conventional procedure.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between August 2018 and March 2019, 78 patients with a single ureteral stone underwent retrograde ureteroscopy with a Wolf 8F/9.8F rigid ureteroscope and a 200-μm holmium-YAG laser. PURPOSE: To share experience in managing ureteral strictures following ureteroscopic lithotripsy.
METHODS: Ninety five patients diagnosed as ureteral strictures after ureteroscopic lithotripsy between January 2013 and January 2018 were included. 53 received endourological treatment, 34 underwent reconstruction, 6 underwent nephrectomy for severe renal impairment, and 2 chose routine ureteral stent replacement. Therapeutic success was defined as absence of clinical symptoms and radiologic relief of obstruction.
RESULTS: The follow-up time ranged from 13 to 57 months, with a median time of 24.

A 42-year-old female visited our hospital with the chief complaint of macrohematuria and left lateroabdominal pain. Computed tomography and retrograde pyelogram showed left hydronephroureter and obstructive uropathy which was 20 mm in diameter in the middle ureter. Urine cytology was negative. Ureter biopsy revealed amyloidosis. Our diagnosis was localized amyloidosis of the ureter, because amyloid was not found in other places in her whole body inspection. In some patients with small low-grade transitional-cell carcinoma of the ureter, the lesion can be treated ureteroscopically with the laser or electrocoagulation. Patients must be compliant with lifelong frequent surveillance. Surgical complications such as ureteral perforation and stricture are uncommon.
