[Vaccination coverage in 6-year-old preschool children, France, 2005-2006].

INTRODUCTION: School-based triennial surveys have been implemented in France since 1999 in order to follow up indicators estimating children's health status, including vaccination coverage. METHODS: The survey was conducted in 2005-2006 in preschools, using a two-stage cross-sectional sampling design (first sampling schools, with pupils then randomly chosen). RESULTS: Among all the children targeted by the survey, 21,346 of them were selected to show their health booklet (carnet de santé) in which the vaccination part was completed. Vaccination coverage was high for vaccines against tubercul

[Adult vaccination coverage: surveys in four populations - Isère (France), 2002-2003].

In order to assess their vaccination policy, the public health authorities in Isère (France) conducted several surveys to determine the vaccination coverage rate among adults. In France, the current state of knowledge in this area is limited. Four separate surveys were conducted in 2002-2003: (1) a telephone survey of 976 adults, 18% of whom had vaccination certificates; (2) a survey of 44 general practitioners (805 patients); (3) a survey of occupational health centers (82 practitioners and 1,119 employees); and (4) a survey of 1,214 patients vaccinated at the international vaccination center

[Inadequate vaccination coverage in a French cohort of HIV positive patients].

INTRODUCTION: HIV patients have a high rate of infectious complications. Vaccination, though less efficient in case of severe immunosuppression, can prevent some of these infections. Since 2006, new vaccine recommendations have been elaborated in France. We studied the vaccine status of HIV+ patients for influenza, Streptococcus pneumoniae, tetanus, and hepatitis A and B among an alsatian HIV+ population. PATIENTS AND METHODS: From August 20, 2007 to September 15, 2007, HIV patients of the Alsace HIV center (COREVIH) were included in a prospective study, screening demographic, medical, immuno

[High vaccination coverage of the National Immunization Programme in the Netherlands].

OBJECTIVE: To describe vaccination coverage of the National Immunization Programme (NIP) in the Netherlands for the years 2006-2008. DESIGN: Descriptive, retrospective. METHOD: Vaccination coverage was determined per vaccination and birth cohort based on data from the vaccination-registration system 'Praeventis'. This new system enables more accurate testing for compatibility with NIP guidelines. Furthermore, it was determined on an individual level whether the desired vaccination status was reached before a certain target age (1, 2, 5 or 10 years). RESULTS: In the final year reported, all

Vaccination coverage among adolescents aged 13-17 years - United States, 2007.

Three new vaccines have been recommended for adolescents by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP) since 2005: meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4; 1 dose), tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap; 1 dose), and quadrivalent human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV4; 3 doses). ACIP also recommends that adolescents should receive recommended vaccinations that were missed during childhood. Since 2006, CDC has conducted the National Immunization Survey-Teen (NIS-Teen) to estimate vaccination coverage from a national sample of adolescents aged 13-17 years. This report de

Health workers and vaccination coverage in developing countries: an econometric analysis.

BACKGROUND: Vaccine-preventable diseases cause more than 1 million deaths among children in developing countries every year. Although health workers are needed to do vaccinations, the role of human resources for health as a determinant of vaccination coverage at the population level has not been investigated. Our aim was to test whether health worker density was positively associated with childhood vaccination coverage in developing countries. METHODS: We did cross-country multiple regression analyses with coverage of three vaccinations--measles-containing vaccine (MCV); diphtheria, tetanus,

Media coverage of anthrax vaccination refusal by Australian Defence Force personnel.

BACKGROUND: During February 2003 a number of Australian sailors were returned home from their deployment to the Persian Gulf after refusing anthrax vaccination. This paper examines the media coverage of this episode as a case study in how controversies about vaccine safety escalate. METHODS: Frame analysis of articles from major Australian newspapers (n=83) and transcripts of radio and television news and current affairs programs (n=22) to identify the main supportive and oppositional themes used in reportage and media debate. FINDINGS: Initially, the major news frames were supportive of the

Vaccination coverage of 2-year-old children--United States, 1992-1993.

The principal goal of the Childhood Immunization Initiative (CII) is to increase, by 1996, vaccination levels for 2-year-old children to at least 90% for the most critical doses in the vaccination series (i.e., one dose of measles-mumps-rubella vaccine [MMR] and at least three doses each of diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and pertussis vaccine [DTP], oral poliovirus vaccine [OPV], and Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccine [Hib]) and to at least 70% for at least three doses of hepatitis B vaccine (Hep B). Since 1991, annual national estimates of vaccination coverage levels of preschool-aged chil

Improving Vaccination Coverage among Rheumatic Disease Patients by Overcoming Existing Barriers.

Rheumatic disease patients tend to have a high burden of infectious diseases, including opportunistic infections, compared with the general population. The extent of vaccination coverage, namely influenza and pneumococcal vaccination, among rheumatic disease patients varies across different populations and regions based on multiple factors. We have failed to capitalize on key opportunities, namely during diagnosis, before initiation of immunosuppressive therapy, during routine follow-up visits, and upon hospitalization, to improve vaccination coverage among rheumatic disease patients. Given th

Temporal trend of influenza vaccination coverage among older adults in Brazil.

This study aimed to assess influenza vaccination coverage among older adults and its temporal trends in Brazil, its regions, and federative units from 2000 to 2019. This ecological time series study utilized data from the National Immunization Program Information System (SI-PNI). The sample comprised vaccine doses administered and the target population each study year, stratified by territorial unit. Vaccination coverage was calculated as the proportion of the target population effectively vaccinated, and temporal trends were assessed using the Prais-Winsten generalized linear regression model

Coverage of Japanese encephalitis routine vaccination among children in central India.

We aimed to estimate the coverage of Japanese encephalitis (JE) vaccination in central India to help explain the continued occurrence of JE disease despite routine vaccination. We implemented a 30-cluster survey for estimating the coverage of JE vaccination in the medium-endemic areas implemented with JE vaccination in central India. The parents were enquired about the uptake of the JE vaccine by their children aged 2-6 years, followed by verification of the immunization cards at home along with reasons for non-vaccination. Vaccination coverage was reported as a percentage with 95% confidence

Legislative and administrative actions to increase vaccination coverage in Washington schools.

Current outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases in the U.S. highlight the consequences of declining levels of vaccination coverage. Attempts to increase coverage by banning or restricting nonmedical exemptions from school-entry vaccination requirements disregard children not up to date on vaccination who already attend school and those who are not up to date for reasons other than vaccine hesitancy. We analyze the potential effects of legislative and administrative options to increase vaccination coverage in Washington schools. We constructed a grade-specific model of the detailed vaccinatio

Childhood vaccination coverage in Europe: impact of different public health policies.

Introduction: Vaccination is a crucial tool for the primary prevention of infectious diseases. Thanks to widespread vaccination, in the last century smallpox has been eradicated, and the Americas and Europe have become polio-free. Areas covered: The aim of our study was to assess vaccination coverage in childhood up to booster preschool age in order to update the analysis on European trends of immunization coverage in the last nine years (2009-2017) and to assess the impact of different national policies on vaccine uptake. Expert opinion: Despite the good results, several EU countries are goin

Childhood vaccination coverage rates among military dependents in the United States.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The Military Health System provides universal coverage of all recommended childhood vaccinations. Few studies have examined the effect that being insured by the Military Health System has on childhood vaccination coverage. The purpose of this study was to compare the coverage of the universally recommended vaccines among military dependents versus other insured and uninsured children using a nationwide sample of children. METHODS: The National Immunization Survey is a multistage, random-digit dialing survey designed to measure vaccination coverage estimates of US ch

Surveillance and vaccination coverage of measles and rubella in Northern Italy.

Measles and rubella are infectious diseases and humans are the only reservoir of these infections. Effective vaccines are available with the potential for measles (MV) and rubella (RuV) virus eradication. According to the World Health Organisation guidelines, a national plan was approved in Italy in 2013 to achieve the MV/RuV elimination by 2015, and active MV/RuV integrated surveillance initiated. Towards this purpose, a regional laboratory centre was set up on 1 September 2013 in Lombardy, Northern Italy. This paper aimed at: (1) evaluating measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine coverage and MV
