The Use of Herbal Therapy to Improve the Quality of Life among Cancer Patients in the Southern Region of Peninsular Malaysia.

OBJECTIVES: In 2016, Dallas Nephrology Associates recognized that the economic, humanistic, and societal burden of end-stage kidney disease was unsustainable and the fee-for-service model of reimbursement did not support a value-based care approach. We decided to be proactive by creating new workflows, education, and disease management so that patients could make well-informed choices, ultimately resulting in better outcomes. METHODS: Our shift toward value-based care focused on patient engagement, education, integrated infrastructure, collaboration, and monitoring of metrics associated with

Using the value-based care paradigm to compare physical therapy access to care models in cervical spine radiculopathy: a case report.

Background: The efficiency and effectiveness of multiple physical therapy care delivery models can be measured using the value-based care paradigm. Entering physical therapy through direct access can decrease health-care utilization and improve patient outcomes. Limited evidence exists which compares direct access physical therapy to referral using the value-based care paradigm specific to cervical spine radiculopathy. Case Description: The patient was a 39-year-old woman who presented to physical therapy through physician referral with the diagnoses of acute cervical radiculopathy. The patien

Evaluating a Wearable-Based Pain Monitoring System in Palliative Cancer Care: Usability and Feasibility Study.

BACKGROUND: Effective pain management is a cornerstone of cancer palliative care, yet it remains challenging in low- and middle-income countries due to limited resources, regulatory constraints, and a lack of objective tools. While wearable technologies offer promise for augmenting pain-related patient-reported outcomes with physiological data, their usability in palliative settings in low- and middle-income countries is underexplored. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the technology usability and implementation feasibility of the NEST (Non-intrusive Devices for Telemedicine) system, a

Final rules.

We are revising the Medicare hospital inpatient prospective payment systems (IPPS) for operating and capital-related costs of acute care hospitals to implement changes arising from our continuing experience with these systems. Some of the changes implement certain statutory provisions contained in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (collectively known as the Affordable Care Act) and other legislation. These changes will be applicable to discharges occurring on or after October 1, 2013, unless otherwise specified in this f

Drivers and barriers for the implementation of value-based healthcare in Latin America: a cross-country qualitative policy analysis.

BACKGROUND: Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC) represents a paradigm shift from the traditional fee-for-service model to a fee-for-value model, aiming to optimize patient outcomes relative to cost. This study assesses the transition to VBHC in three Latin American countries: Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. By identifying barriers and opportunities to unlock value in these health systems, it provides recommendations for advancing VBHC across the region. METHODS: Multiple methods were used integrating targeted literature reviews, key informant interviews, and qualitative indicators scoring based on t

Developing professional education to support cultural humility in maternal health care: Reflecting on a co-design project with refugee and migrant women.

BACKGROUND: Culturally safe care is critical to positive maternal health experiences and outcomes. However, refugee and migrant women often experience inequities in maternal healthcare. To address these challenges, healthcare providers are increasingly using co-design. Much of this research focusses on evaluating outcomes or using traditional methods to obtain lived experience input. Comparatively, there is a paucity of research detailing how to achieve value-based co-design with refugee and migrant women. AIM: The project aimed to co-design an education resource to support the development of

Creating a Value Dashboard for Orthopaedic Surgical Procedures.

BACKGROUND: Value-based health-care delivery is a framework for restructuring our health-care systems with the goal of providing better outcomes for patients at lower cost. Value is determined by patient health outcomes per dollar spent on health services. We sought to develop a value dashboard that could be used to easily track and improve the value of total hip and knee arthroplasty (THA and TKA). METHODS: We created a value dashboard for TKAs and THAs at our institution. Value was defined as quality of outcomes per dollar spent. The dashboard for each procedure displayed the average value
