Activin A regulates testicular and epididymal development, but the role of activin B in the epididymis and vas deferens is unknown. Mouse models with reduced activin A (Inhba+/- and InhbaBK/+), or its complete absence (InhbaBK/BK), were investigated to identify specific roles of activins in the male reproductive tract. Sibutramine is an inhibitor of norepinephrine and 5-HT reuptake largely used in the management of obesity. OBJECTIVES: To review the clinical and genetic findings in men with congenital unilateral absence of the vas deferens (CUAVD). CUAVD is important because of its association with renal anomalies and cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator gene mutations.

OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to describe the prevalence of vas deferens (VD) calcifications on abdominal CT examinations and the associations between VD calcifications and several systemic conditions. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The CT examinations of male patients from January 2010 to December 2011 were retrospectively reviewed. After exclusions, the records of 1915 consecutively identified patients were analyzed. Five readers, 3rd- and 4th-year radiology residents, recorded the presence and laterality of VD calcifications and of vascular calcifications presumed due to atherosclerosis.

BACKGROUND: Congenital absence of vas deferens (CAVD) represents a major cause of obstructive azoospermia and is mainly related to biallelic alteration of the CFTR gene, also involved in cystic fibrosis. Duplication of the vas deferens is a rare anomaly, defined as the presence of two distinct vasa deferentia within one spermatic cord, with only 28 cases reported worldwide since 1959. We report the case of a 63-year-old man with a duplicate vas deferens, presenting with abdominal pain from bowel obstruction secondary to incarcerated inguinal hernia. Spermatic cord dissection during hernioplasty revealed duplication of the vas deferens within the right spermatic cord. Doppler ultrasonography confirmed absence of waveforms in both vasa deferentia with arterial signal in the accompanying vessel.

Aquaporin 1 (AQP1) is one of the water channels involved in water transfer and reabsorption. We report a case of congenital cystic dysplasia of a kidney associated with an absent vas deferens and congenital inguinal hernia on the same side. The findings are explained in embryologic terms. Congenital abnormalities of the kidney are often associated with other abnormalities of the urogenital system and should be looked for when managing children with this condition.

We report 2 rare cases of single ectopic ureter simulating double vas deferens. Clinical, radiographic and macroscopic signs at operation indicated a single ectopic ureter opening into the seminal tract. However, histological examination of the surgical specimen revealed that the lumen of the supposed ureter was lined in part by columnar epithelium, although chiefly by transitional epithelium.
