Immunohistochemical Analysis of a Vitreous Membrane Removed from a Patient with Incontinentia Pigmenti-Related Retinal Detachment.

This is a case history of a 23-year-old woman suffering from incontinentia pigmenti (IP). The patient's vision in the left eye started to deteriorate due to cataract progression at the age of 22, and by the age of 23, it dropped from 0.9 to 0.04. Ultrasound examination confirmed tractional vitreoretinal membranes. Vitrectomy was performed, therefore, on her left eye. The histological evaluation of vitreous membrane revealed a complex immunophenotype (positivity for glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), vimentin, S-100, anti-pan cytokeratin antibody (AE/AE3), and smooth muscle-specific actin

[Posterior vitreous detachment with collapse, and peripheral retinal degeneration in the aetiology of idiopathic retinal detachment. A synapsis of clinical observations and anatomical studies (author's transl)].

The crucial aetiological factors of idiopathic retinal detachment are posterior vitreous detachment with collapse, and degenerative lesions in the fundus periphery. Posterior vitreous detachment does not imply diagnostic problems to the expert in this field. On the other hand, the peripheral retinal degenerations include wide range of lesions the clinical and pathoanatomical study of which has so far not resulted in a complete picture. The author of the present paper attempts to get closer to a clearly arranged classification and terminology of those peripheral retinal degenerations, which are

Persistent Hyperplastic Primary Vitreous With Complete Retinal Detachment in an Infant: Imaging Characteristics and Clinical Management.

Persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous (PHPV), also known as persistent fetal vasculature, is a rare congenital ocular developmental anomaly that can lead to significant visual impairment if not promptly recognized and managed. We present a case of a one-month-old male infant who presented with decreased opening of the left eye and leukocoria. Clinical examination revealed a white pupillary reflex with absent visual fixation. Ophthalmoscopic evaluation demonstrated a grey retrolental mass with prominent vascular loops. B-scan ultrasonography identified a characteristic retrolental mass conne
