Background and Objectives: Peripheral nerve injuries around the shoulder are increasingly recognized in athletes who perform repetitive overhead motions. Suprascapular neuropathy is well described in volleyball players, whereas axillary neuropathy is usually attributed to dislocation or direct trauma. Concurrent, painless, non-traumatic involvement of both nerves is rare and may be mistaken for disuse or a rotator cuff disorder. Case Presentation: A 17-year-old male national-level volleyball player presented with painless atrophy of the dominant shoulder, noticed three months earlier, without

This study examined sex differences in anthropometric and physical attributes, and their relationships with volleyball serve accuracy and speed among adolescent volleyball players. Fifty athletes (age: 13.1 ± 0.4 years; peak height velocity: -2.2 ± 0.3 years) voluntarily participated in this study. Anthropometric attributes, physical performances, and technical performance (i.e., serve accuracy and speed) were measured. The result showed that boys were taller, leaner, and had greater leg length than girls (all p < 0.001). Boys also outperformed girls in change of direction (p < 0.01), vertical

This study aimed to assess the impact of the VolleyVeilig program on enhancing upper extremity performance in female volleyball players. While previous research has focused mainly on lower extremity injury prevention, there remains a significant lack of studies examining how structured warm-up routines can influence upper extremity performance in the sport. A quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test was used. Thirty female volleyball players, aged 16 to 21, were randomly divided into two groups: VolleyVeilig intervention group and traditional warm-up group. The VolleyVeilig warm-u

Shoulder problems are common in volleyball and greatly impede both training and player performance. Subacromial bursa (SAB) thickening and tendon neovascularity have shown relevance in other populations, but their relationship with the development of shoulder complaints has not been investigated in volleyball players or overhead-throwing athletes. The study aim was to examine the role of SAB thickness, neovascularization of the supraspinatus tendon, shoulder strength, range of motion (ROM), player position, and age in the development of shoulder complaints in professional volleyball players. Though the plasticity of human tendons is well explored in adults, it is still unknown how superimposed mechanical loading by means of athletic training affects the properties of tendons during maturation. Due to the increased responsiveness of muscle to mechanical loading, adolescence is an important phase to investigate the effects of training on the mechanical properties of tendons. Hence, in the present study we compared vastus lateralis (VL) architecture, muscle strength of the knee extensor muscles and patellar tendon mechanical properties of male and female adolescent elite athletes to

Enthesitis of the direct tendon of the rectus femoris muscle is a rare pathology which mainly affects professional athletes, and it is caused by overuse and repetitive microtrauma. Athletic jumping and kicking exert a great stress on the direct tendon of the rectus femoris muscle, and volleyball and football players are therefore most frequently affected. Enthesitis may occur suddenly causing pain and functional impairment possibly associated with partial or complete tendon injuries, or it may be a chronic condition causing non-specific clinical symptoms. We present the case of a professional v

Cryptogenic stroke is a form of cerebral vascular accident that has an unknown origin and is rarely associated with patent foramen ovale (PFO) and migraine headaches. This is an uncommon occurrence in young, healthy, active adults, and it is increasingly rare for the episode to occur during an athletic competition. Stroke is easily recognizable with its distinct signs and symptoms, but it is also easily confused with many of its differential diagnoses, such as seizures or head trauma, if the episode occurs during an athletic competition. This case report describes the stroke episode, incidence
