STUDY OBJECTIVE: Routine pan-computed tomography (CT, including of the head, neck, chest, abdomen/pelvis) has been advocated for evaluation of patients with blunt trauma based on the belief that early detection of clinically occult injuries will improve outcomes. We sought to determine whether selective imaging could decrease scan use without missing clinically important injuries.
METHODS: This was a prospective observational study of 701 patients with blunt trauma at an academic trauma center. Before scanning, the most senior emergency physician and trauma surgeon independently indicated whi

INTRODUCTION: Mu-opioid receptors (MORs) are G-coupled protein receptors with a high affinity for both endogenous and exogenous opioids. MORs are widely expressed in the central nervous system (CNS), peripheral organs, and the immune system. They mediate pain and reward and have been implicated in the pathophysiology of opioid, cocaine, and other substance use disorders. Using the long axial field-of-view (LAFOV) PennPET Explorer instrument and the MOR selective radioligand [ 11 C]carfentanil ([ 11 C]CFN), we measured the whole-body distribution of MORs in 13 healthy humans. We also examined s

In terms of cancer-related deaths, lung cancer is the most common type. To prevent this malignant and dangerous disease from progressing, early and differential diagnoses are very critical. A combination of dimercaptosuccinic acid and pentavalent 99m Tc under alkaline conditions, 99m Tc (V)-DMSA, can be used for malignant tumors' early diagnosis and prognosis. The 99m Tc (V)-DMSA radiotracer is most commonly used for follow-up of medullary thyroid cancer metastases, but it is also successful in lung cancer and other malignancies. In this case, a 65-year-old woman with a recent history of nonpr

Inter-reader reliability of a new scoring system for evaluating joint inflammation and enthesitis in whole body MRI (WBMRI) in juvenile idiopathic arthritis was tested. The scoring system grades 732 item-region combinations of bone marrow and soft tissue changes for commonly involved joints and entheseal sites. Five radiologists rated 17 WBMRI scans through an online rating platform. Item-wise reliability was calculated for 117 items with non-zero scores in >10 % of readings. Interquartile ranges of the five-reader Kappa reliability coefficients were 0.58-0.73 (range: 0.36-0.88) for the joints

OBJECTIVE: To determine the utility of whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (WB MRI) to predict relapse in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) in clinical remission.
METHODS: Consecutive patients with JIA who fulfilled the Wallace criteria for remission were recruited into this longitudinal pilot study and underwent WB MRI. A radiological score was devised, incorporating synovitis, bone marrow edema, sacroiliitis, enthesitis, and bone erosions. Two readers independently scored the MR data sets. The same score was calculated for both knee joints individually and correlated with

Introduction: Dynamic positron emission tomography (PET) and the application of kinetic models can provide important quantitative information based on its temporal information. This however requires arterial blood sampling, which can be challenging to acquire. Nowadays, state-of-the-art PET/CT systems offer fully automated, whole-body (WB) kinetic modelling protocols using image-derived input functions (IDIF) to replace arterial blood sampling. Here, we compared the validity of an automatic WB kinetic model protocol to the reference standard arterial input function (AIF) for both clinical and

A 77-year-old man with symptoms of chest pain was diagnosed with immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related disease. Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) revealed an intense uptake in the submandibular gland, lymph nodes and abdominal aortic wall. Diffusion-weighted imaging with background body signal suppression (DWIBS) revealed signal enhancements at the same location as those of the FDG-PET/CT findings. The DWIBS signal intensity decreased after steroid treatment, so we decreased the steroid dosage. Relapse did not occur. DWIBS makes it possible to adjust t

BACKGROUND: Manually extracted imaging-based body composition measures from a single-slice area (A) have shown associations with clinical outcomes in patients with cardiometabolic disease and cancer. With advances in artificial intelligence, fully automated volumetric (V) segmentation approaches are now possible, but it is unknown whether these measures carry prognostic value to predict mortality in the general population. Here, we developed and tested a deep learning framework to automatically quantify volumetric body composition measures from whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and i

Whole-body MRI (WB-MRI) is increasingly used for early diagnosis, cancer staging and treatment monitoring, but adoption remains sub-optimal. The aim of this scoping review was to map research on patient and provider perspectives of WB-MRI in oncology, and identify methodological limitations and evidence gaps. The review followed the JBI methodological framework and the PRISMA-ScR checklist. Five electronic databases were searched from inception to 29th March 2025: Cochrane Library, PubMed, APA PsycINFO, APA Psych Articles, and Academic Search Complete. Screening, data extraction, and quality a

BACKGROUND: Menkes disease (MD) is a rare, inherited, multisystemic copper metabolism disorder. Classical Menkes disease is characterized by low serum copper and ceruloplasmin concentrations, leading to multiple abnormalities in the whole-body, especially in connective tissue and central nervous system. However, serum copper and ceruloplasmin levels are not reliable diagnostic biomarkers due to the low concentrations in healthy newborns either. The featured imaging manifestations play an important role in diagnosing Menkes disease. To our knowledge, there are few reports on the systemic imagin
