IMPORTANCE: Cocaine and methamphetamine use disorders are major public health challenges with no approved pharmacological treatments. Reliance on complete abstinence as the sole end point in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) may hinder identification of effective therapies, as it is often overly stringent, whereas reduced stimulant use is a promising alternative given its association with improved health outcomes.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the treatment effect of pharmacological interventions tested in RCTs for stimulant use disorder, comparing reduced use to total abstinence.

INTRODUCTION: Delusional parasitosis (DP) is a syndrome characterized by the firm conviction that small living beings infest the skin. The etiology can be primary and secondary. Structural brain abnormalities in DP have only been reported in case reports often subcortical vascular encephalopathy and right-hemisphere strokes in the temporo-parietal cortex. METHODS: All patients were part of a smoking cessation program of the Nicotine Institute in collaboration with the general sick fund of Lower Austria. During the study period, the program (which is ongoing) lasted five weeks and included individual counseling. A concern with drugs that block (DAT) is their potential reinforcing effects and abuse liability. Using positron emission tomography (PET) we have shown that for DAT-blocking drugs to produce reinforcing effects they must induce >50% DAT blockade and the blockade has to be fast (within 15 minutes).
