Progressive replacement resorption following delayed replantation of avulsed teeth has proved to be an intractable clinical problem. A wide variety of therapeutic approaches have failed to result in the predictable arrest of resorption, with a good long-term prognosis for tooth survival. Bisphosphonates are used in the medical management of a range of bone disorders and topically applied bisphosphonate has been reported to inhibit root resorption in dogs. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a bisphosphonate (etidronate disodium) as an intracanal medicament in the root canals of avulsed m

OBJECTIVE: Clinicians have few quantitative studies that rank the in vivo pulp capping effects of commonly used restorative materials. These factors were investigated to provide guidance to clinicians.
METHOD AND MATERIALS: One hundred sixty-one standardized pulp-exposed cavities were prepared in nonhuman primate teeth. Exposed pulps were capped with calcium hydroxide, resin-modified glass-ionomer cements, and resin composites. Teeth were collected from 7 to 720 days to observe a full range of responses. Pulpal reactions were categorized according to the standards set by the International Sta

The effect of human blood and moisture contamination on the sealing ability of six commonly used root canal sealers was studied. The materials tested--Tubliseal, Diaket, AH26, Nogenol, Roth, and Endomethasone sealers--were placed in root canals with laterally condensed gutta-percha. The specimens were immediately immersed in blood or saline solution or kept dry for 2 hours. All the teeth were then subjected to methylene blue dye for 1 hour. A comparison of the seal was made by observation of dye penetration around the filling materials. Under all conditions, Tubliseal exhibited the least amoun

The tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL), a member of cytokine superfamily, induces apoptosis in a number of tumor cells through the activation of extrinsic apoptotic pathway but shows little or no cytotoxicity toward normal cells. However some tumor cells are inherently resistant to TRAIL-mediated apoptosis, which needs to be addressed to establish TRAIL as a potential chemotherapeutic drug. In this study, our aim was to manipulate TRAIL-apoptosis pathway by hydroxychavicol (HCH), a polyphenol from Piper betel leaf, for the induction of apoptosis in TRAIL resistant

An in vitro method for the cytotoxicity testing of endodontic materials is described which aims to simulate the clinical situation. Materials can be tested in the presence or absence of a compacted layer of dentine chips mimicking the periapical dentine plug. A total of twelve materials were tested. In the absence of dentine, Kloroperka, Biocalex, Diaket and Endomethasone were slightly cytotoxic; AH26 with and without silver, Sealapex, Tubliseal and Kerr's pulp canal sealer were moderately cytotoxic, while Forfenan, Spad and Kri paste were strongly cytotoxic. In the presence of dentine the cyt
