PURPOSE: The incidence of maxillary sinus cancer (MSC) is extremely rare, representing less than 1% of all cancers. Because of its rarity, the management of locally advanced MSC is a challenging issue. The objective of the present study was to retrospectively compare the efficacy of 2 traditional treatment strategies, concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) versus combination of surgery and radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy (SRCT) in MSC.

We report the findings of the immunophenotypic profile of three cases of nasal T/NK cell lymphoma in leukemic phase. Flow cytometry analysis was carried out using cell suspensions of tumor nasal biopsies and peripheral blood. Tumor samples were composed by a mixture of a predominant subset of medium-size true NK cytCD3epsilon-, sCD3epsilon-, CD56+ cells mixed with a minor subset of medium-size T/NK sCD3epsilon+, CD56+ cells. Both subsets were also detected in peripheral blood. In addition, an infiltration of small-size sCD3epsilon+, CD56- normal T lymphocytes was also present.

PURPOSE: To determine the effects of three changes in radiotherapy technique on the outcomes for patients irradiated postoperatively for maxillary sinus cancer.

The association of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA with African tumors was examined by the method of hybridization with complementary RNA. 22 out of 23 biopsies of Burkitt's lymphoma and 18 out of 23 biopsies of nasopharyngeal carcinoma were found to contain EBV DNA. The number of EBV genome equivalents per cell ranged from four to 113. Five out of 24 other African tumors, two adenocarcinomas, and one each of melanoma, reticulum cell sarcoma, and carcinoma of the antrum, also contained EBV DNA.
