Prognostic impact of myocardial flow reserve assessed by cadmium-zinc-telluride single-photon emission computed tomography.

BACKGROUND: Myocardial flow reserve (MFR) reflects the ability of the coronary circulation to augment blood flow in response to increased demand, integrating both epicardial and microvascular function. Although its prognostic value has been demonstrated with invasive techniques and positron emission tomography (PET), evidence using cadmium-zinc-telluride (CZT) single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) remains limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic impact of MFR assessed by CZT-SPECT in patients with and without obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD). METHODS

A turn-on fluorescent biosensor based on CdTe quantum dots for sensitive and selective detection of APE1 activity in cervical cancer cell lysates.

Apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (APE1) plays a critical role in the base excision repair (BER) pathway, and its aberrant activity is closely associated with various cancers, including cervical cancer, as well as neurodegenerative diseases. Herein, we report a novel "turn-on" fluorescent biosensor for the sensitive and selective detection of APE1 activity based on CdTe quantum dots (QDs) and silver ions (Ag+). The sensing strategy relies on the inner filter effect (IFE)-induced fluorescence quenching of CdTe QDs by Ag+, followed by fluorescence recovery upon specific cleavage of an AP site

Highly sensitive fluorescent aptasensor based on magnetic metal-organic framework for aflatoxin B1 detection.

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) has strong carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, and teratogenicity even at low concentrations, presenting a major risk to food safety and human health, hence, it is crucial to develop a sensitive detection technique for AFB1. Consequently, cadmium telluride (CdTe) quantum dots conjugated with AFB1 aptamers serve as fluorescent signal probes, whereas Fe3O4@UiO-66-NH2 nanocomplexes are employed as magnetic carriers and fluorescence quenchers. Fe3O4@UiO-66-NH2 reduces background signal interference, thereby enhancing detection sensitivity and Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET)

Low-dose cadmium telluride quantum dots trigger M1 polarization in macrophages through mTOR-mediated transcription factor EB activation.

The increasing application of quantum dots (QDs) increases interactions with organisms. The inflammatory imbalance is a significant manifestation of immunotoxicity. Macrophages maintain inflammatory homeostasis. Using macrophages differentiated by phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate-induced THP-1 cells as models, the study found that low-dose (5 μM) cadmium telluride QDs (CdTe-QDs) hindered monocyte-macrophage differentiation. CD11b is a surface marker of macrophage, and the addition of CdTe-QDs during induction resulted in a decrease in CD11b expression. Moreover, exposure of differentiated THP-1

A Novel Way of Measuring Dual-Task Interference: The Reliability and Construct Validity of the Dual-Task Effect Battery in Neurodegenerative Disease.

BACKGROUND: Decreased automaticity is common among individuals with neurodegenerative disease and is often assessed using dual-task (DT) paradigms. However, the best methods for assessing performance changes related to DT demands remain inconclusive. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the reliability and validity of a novel battery of DT measures (DT Effect-Battery (DTE-B)) encompassing three domains: task-specific interference, task prioritization, and automaticity. METHODS: Data for this retrospective cross-sectional study included 125 participants with Parkinson's disease (PD), 127 participants wi

Radiation exposure after myocardial perfusion imaging with Cadmium-Zinc-Telluride camera versus conventional camera.

BACKGROUND: Patient exposure to radiation during the management of coronary heart disease (CHD) can be reduced with more efficient technologies in nuclear medicine, such as the Cadmium-Zinc-Telluride (CZT) gamma-camera for myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) studies. However, it has been suggested that CZT has lower specificity, which might lead to more downstream radiological procedures, particularly among obese individuals. METHODS AND RESULTS: We evaluated 244 patients with suspected CHD who underwent CZT-SPECT and matched 1:1 according to sex, age, and body mass index (BMI) with those unde

Magnetic-Assisted Methylene Blue-Intercalated Amplified dsDNA for Polarity-Switching-Mode Photoelectrochemical Aptasensing.

Organic dyes are typically applied as photosensitizers in photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells but have not been reported in polarity-reversal-mode PEC sensors with excellent sensitivity and accuracy. Herein, an elegant and robust PEC biosensor for carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) has been designed by photocurrent polarity switching of CdTe quantum dots (QDs), which is obtained by embedding methylene blue (MB) into amplified double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) anchored to the superparamagnetic Fe3O4@SiO2. The target-triggered Exo III-assisted cyclic amplification strategy and in situ magnetic enrichment ena

Exploring the conformational changes in fibrinogen by forming protein corona with CdTe quantum dots and the related cytotoxicity.

This study describes synthesis of N‑acetyl‑l‑cysteine-capped CdTe quantum dots (QDs) and investigates their interaction with plasma protein fibrinogen (FIB) and the structural changes of FIB. It is shown that the interaction of QDs with FIB is a spontaneous process and the major driving forces are van der Waals forces and hydrogen bonds. Multi-spectroscopic measurements show that the intrinsic fluorescence of FIB was quenched and secondary and tertiary structures were altered due to the interaction with QDs. In addition, the aggregation state of FIB was altered in the presence of QDs. Furtherm

Sensitive CVG-AFS/ICP-MS label-free nucleic acid and protein assays based on a selective cation exchange reaction and simple filtration separation.

Nowadays, label-free atomic spectrometric bioassays are attracting great research interest because of their advantages of low cost, simple design and operation, etc. Herein, a novel and simple chemical vapor generation-atomic fluorescence spectrometry (CVG-AFS)/inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) label-free detection method is presented for highly sensitive and selective assay of DNA and proteins. This work mainly combined a phenomenon that CdTe quantum dots (QDs) can be used to selectively differentiate free Hg2+ and the T-Hg2+-T complex, with the use of simple membrane filt

Scanning Acoustic Microscopy and Time-Resolved Fluorescence Spectroscopy for Characterization of Atherosclerotic Plaques.

Atherosclerotic plaques constitute the primary cause of heart attack and stroke. However, we still lack a clear identification of the plaques. Here, we evaluate the feasibility of scanning acoustic microscopy (SAM) and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy (TRFS) in atherosclerotic plaque characterization. We perform dual-modality microscopic imaging of the human carotid atherosclerotic plaques. We first show that the acoustic impedance values are statistically higher in calcified regions compared with the collagen-rich areas. We then use CdTe/CdS quantum dots for imaging the atherosclerotic

A dual signal-on photoelectrochemical immunosensor for sensitively detecting target avian viruses based on AuNPs/g-C3N4 coupling with CdTe quantum dots and in situ enzymatic generation of electron donor.

A sensitive and specific photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunosensor was fabricated for subgroup J avian leukosis viruses (ALV-J) analysis based on a dual signal-on strategy. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) decorated graphitic carbon nitride (AuNPs/g-C3N4) as photoelectrochemical species and primary antibody (Ab1) against ALV-J were immobilized onto ITO electrode in turn. An ALP-CdTe-Ab2 bio-conjugant was fabricated by assembling second antibody (Ab2) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) to CdTe quantum dots (QDs) surface. The PEC immunosensor was fabricated by successively anchoring the target ALV-J and ALP

Dual-function fluorescent probe for cancer imaging and therapy.

To date, several fluorescent probes modified by a single targeting agent have been explored. However, studies on the preparation of dual-function quantum dot (QD) fluorescent probes with dual-targeting action and a therapeutic effect are rare. Here, a dual-targeting CdTe/CdS QD fluorescent probe with a bovine serum albumin-glycyrrhetinic acid conjugate and arginine-glycine-aspartic acid was successfully prepared that could induce the apoptosis of liver cancer cells and showed enhanced targeting in in vitro cell imaging. Therefore, the as-prepared fluorescent probe in this work is an efficient

An aqueous platinum nanotube based fluorescent immuno-assay for porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus detection.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) has been a significant pathogen towards global swine industry upon its emergence in the late 1980s and since then has exemplified a rapidly evolving, widely spreading pathogen. It is urgently important to develop a simple, rapid and cost effective method to detect this pathogen when virus outbreaks. In the present work, it was found that virus antibody modified platinum nanotubes (Pt-Ab) could act as a superquencher to CdTe:Zn(2+) quantum dots (CdTe:Zn(2+) QDs) fluorescence by Stern-Volmer constants nearly 10(9) M(-1) without any aggr

Development of sandwich-form biosensor to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex in clinical sputum specimens.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causing agent of tuberculosis, comes second only after HIV on the list of infectious agents slaughtering many worldwide. Due to the limitations behind the conventional detection methods, it is therefore critical to develop new sensitive sensing systems capable of quick detection of the infectious agent. In the present study, the surface modified cadmium-telluride quantum dots and gold nanoparticles conjunct with two specific oligonucleotides against early secretory antigenic target 6 were used to develop a sandwich-form fluorescence resonance energy transfer-bas

Determination of a threshold dose to reduce or eliminate CdTe-induced toxicity in L929 cells by controlling the exposure dose.

With the widespread use of quantum dots (QDs), the likelihood of exposure to quantum dots has increased substantially. The application of quantum dots in numerous biomedical areas requires detailed studies on their toxicity. In this study, we aimed to determine the threshold dose which reduced or eliminated CdTe-induced toxicity in L929 cells by controlling the exposure dose. We established a cellular model of acute exposure to CdTe QDs. Cells were exposed to different concentrations of CdTe QDs (2.2 nm and 3.5 nm) followed by illustrative cytotoxicity analysis. The results showed that low con

An ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescence immunoassay for carbohydrate antigen 19-9 in serum based on antibody labeled Fe3O4 nanoparticles as capture probes and graphene/CdTe quantum dot bionanoconjugates as signal amplifiers.

The CdTe quantum dots (QDs), graphene nanocomposite (CdTe-G) and dextran-Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles have been synthesized for developing an ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunoassay for Carcinoembryonic antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) in serums. Firstly, the capture probes (CA 19-9 Ab1/Fe3O4) for enriching CA 19-9 were synthesized by immobilizing the CA 19-9's first antibody (CA 19-9 Ab1) on magnetic nanoparticles (dextran-Fe3O4). Secondly, the signal probes (CA 19-9 Ab2/CdTe-G), which can emit an ECL signal, were formed by attaching the secondary CA 19-9 antibody (CA 19-9 Ab2) to the

Luminescent/magnetic hybrid nanoparticles with folate-conjugated peptide composites for tumor-targeted drug delivery.

We developed a novel chitosan-based luminescent/magnetic hybrid nanoparticles with folate-conjugated tetrapeptide composites (CLMNPs-tetrapeptide-FA) by conjugation in situ. First, chitosan, CdTe quantum dots (QDs), and superparamagnetic iron oxide were directly gelled into ternary hybrid nanogels. Subsequently, tetrapeptides (GFFG and LGPV) and folate were conjugated orderly into the hybrid nanoparticles. The morphology, composition, and properties of the as-prepared copolymers have also been characterized and determined using TEM, EDX, XRD, FTIR spectra, DLS, fluorescence spectroscopy, VSM,

Fluorescence enhancement of CdTe/CdS quantum dots by coupling of glyphosate and its application for sensitive detection of copper ion.

A novel fluorescent probe for Cu(2+) determination based on the fluorescence quenching of glyphosate (Glyp)-functionalized quantum dots (QDs) was firstly reported. Glyp had been used to modify the surface of QDs to form Glyp-functionalized QDs following the capping of thioglycolic acid on the core-shell CdTe/CdS QDs. Under the optimal conditions, the response was linearly proportional to the concentration of Cu(2+) between 2.4×10(-2)μg mL(-1) and 28μg mL(-1), with a detection limit of 1.3×10(-3)μg mL(-1) (3δ). The Glyp-functionalized QDs fluorescent probe offers good sensitivity and selectivit

Toxicity evaluation of hydrophilic CdTe quantum dots and CdTe@SiO2 nanoparticles in mice.

Quantum dots have drawn tremendous attention in the field of in vitro and small animal in vivo fluorescence imaging in the last decade. However, concerns over the cytotoxicity of their heavy metal constituents have limited their use in clinical applications. Here, we report our comparative studies on the toxicities of quantum dots (QDs) and silica coated CdTe nanoparticles (NPs) to mice after intravenous injection. The blood cells analysis showed significant increased level of white blood cells (WBCs) in groups treated with CdTe QDs as compared to the control while red blood cells (RBCs) and p
