We report a case of concomitant mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) and multiple myeloma (MM) in which we investigated the possibility of a clonal relationship. A 76-year-old man was diagnosed with MCL [immunoglobulin (Ig)M,D-kappa; stage IVB] and MM (IgG-kappa; stage I). Ig heavy chain (IgH) gene complementarity-determining region 3 in DNA from both the MCL tumor and from single MM cells from bone marrow smears was amplified to investigate whether there was a clonal relationship between MCL and MM. Sequence analysis revealed no clonal relationship between MCL and MM in our patient.

Primary classic Hodgkin lymphoma of the gastrointestinal tract represents a rare occurrence. A full patient's work-up is essential in order to exclude a secondary intestinal involvement. The clinical features and outcome of small intestinal lymphoma remain unclear. We retrospectively analyzed 23 patients who had non-Hodgkin lymphoma with a small intestinal lesion. With a median follow-up of 37 months, the 5-year overall survival and failure-free survival (FFS) were 64% and 60%, respectively. Coloproctectomy with ileo-anal anastomosis (CP-IAA) has been in use for 30 years. This intervention is the standard technique when surgery is indicated for familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and for ulcerative colitis (UC). We report three cases of ileocolic mucormycosis in adult immunocompromised patients presenting as acute abdomen. All patients underwent laparotomy but two of them died from multiorgan failure before the diagnoses were confirmed. The diagnosis of gastrointestinal mucormycosis is rarely suspected, and antemortem diagnosis is made in only 25%-50% of cases. These cases illustrate the difficulty encountered by surgeons in managing acute abdomen in neutropenic patients with hematological malignancy. The management of colonic mucormycosis in the published literature is also reviewed.

The management of the patient with radiation-induced bowel obstruction remains controversial. To reassess the surgical therapy for radiation-induced bowel obstruction, we analyzed 22 patients operated upon at the National Taiwan University Hospital. In 10 patients, peritoneal carcinomatosis was found during operation. We classified them as "recurrence group" and the remaining 12 patients as the "study group." Pleuropulmonary blastoma (PPB) is a rare malignant mesenchymal pediatric tumor with a well-recognized association with congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAM). Recently, it has been described in a patient with CCAM, multiple jejunal polyps, and cystic nephroma. We describe a similar case of a unique presentation of PPB, arising in association with CCAM and with a history of intussception caused by multiple small bowel polyps.

We describe a case of primary Hodgkin disease of the terminal ileum in a 38-year-old man with Crohn disease of 24 years' duration. The infiltrate was located in an ulcerated fistula involving the terminal ileum and urinary bladder.
