Dried plum alleviates symptoms of inflammatory arthritis in TNF transgenic mice.

Dried plum (DP), a rich source of polyphenols has been shown to have bone-preserving properties in both animal models of osteoporosis and postmenopausal women. We evaluated if DP alleviated the destruction of joints in transgenic mice (TG) that overexpress human tumor necrosis factor (TNF), a genetic model of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A four-week treatment of 20% DP diet in TG slowed the onset of arthritis and reduced bone erosions in the joints compared to TG on a regular diet. This was associated with fewer tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) positive cells, suggesting decreased oste

Harnessing liposomal delivery to boost polyphenols' potential in chronic wound therapy.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic wounds pose a significant clinical challenge due to impaired healing, persistent inflammation, and susceptibility to infection, often by antimicrobial-resistant bacteria. Therefore, active compounds should ideally act both as antimicrobials with limited potential for resistance development and offer other beneficial wound-healing properties. Polyphenols, such as chlorogenic acid (CGA) and quercetin (QCT), exhibit those properties, but are limited by poor stability or low bioavailability. METHODS: In this study, liposomal formulations of CGA (CGA-LP) and QCT (QCT-LP) were

Preclinical evaluation of a bioartificial kidney loaded with functional renal tubular cells in a Bama miniature pig model of acute renal failure.

BACKGROUND: Severe acute kidney injury (AKI) is associated with high mortality. Current blood purification technologies fail to replace the biological functions of renal tubular epithelial cells (RTECs), such as active transport, acid-base homeostasis, and endocrine regulation. The integration of viable RTECs into an extracorporeal circuit to construct a bioartificial kidney represents a potential strategy for renal functional support. However, its translation is constrained by the rapid loss of seed cell phenotypes, immune and coagulation activation triggered by conventional materials, and a
