BACKGROUND: Methoxyethyl etomidate hydrochloride (ET-26) is a novel etomidate analogue. This is the first-in-human study of a bolus i.v. formulation of ET-26 to assess its safety, tolerability, hypnotic effects, and pharmacokinetics.

BACKGROUND: Propofol is a rapid, efficient hypnotic agent with antiemetic effects. However, a high dosage is related to hemodynamic abnormalities such as hypotension and bradycardia. Pretreatment with remifentanil can decrease injection pain and stabilize hemodynamics during the induction period. Remifentanil or midazolam in combination with propofol can provide synergistic or additive effects during anesthesia induction. We compared latanoprost monotherapy therapy with timolol/ dorzolamide in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma to evaluate the effects on intraocular pressure (IOP) and occurrence of adverse events. IOP and topical side effects were evaluated at the beginning, first, and third months. Mean IOP was decreased at the third month. The most common side effect was hyperemia (43.6%). We concluded that latanoprost reduces IOP better than fixed combination and its topical side effects are tolerable.

PURPOSE: The inherited bone marrow failure syndromes (IBMFS) are a heterogeneous group of genetic disorders that share the inability of the bone marrow to produce an adequate number of blood cells. The 4 most frequent syndromes are Fanconi anemia (FA), dyskeratosis congenita (DC), Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA), and Shwachman-Diamond syndrome (SDS). All 4 syndromes have been associated with various physical abnormalities.
