OBJECTIVE: Several acute, usually pediatric variants of edematous, symptomatic fungiform lingual papillitis have been reported since the 1990s, most notably transient lingual papillitis (TLP); but no chronic forms have been mentioned. Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a severe form of erythema multiforme that results in extensive epidermal sloughing; the condition is associated with a mortality of up to 70%. STUDY DESIGN: Nigerian children with active rickets (n = 96) were randomized to receive calcium as powdered limestone (920 mg of elemental calcium) or ground fish (952 mg of elemental calcium) daily for 24 weeks. The items papyraceus fetus and fetus compressus are used like synonymous. The low incidence and the lack of reporting of these cases leads to confusion. Clinical evidence shows significant differences between them and sustain a proper diagnosis. We report 3 cases of patients with multiple pregnancy (2 twins and 1 triplets) observed in the death of one of the products of each patient, obtaining 2 fetus compressus and 1 fetus papyraceous, respectively.

OBJECTIVES: We evaluated the use of homograft dehydrated temporal fascia (Tutoplast) in repair of tympanic membrane perforations secondary to chronic otitis media.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Dehydrated temporal fascia was used during tympanoplasty in 17 patients (10 females, 7 males; mean age 34 years; range 15 to 53 years) with chronic otitis media. Operations were type 1 tympanoplasty in six patients, tympanoplasty and mastoidectomy in three patients, and revision tympanoplasty and/or mastoidectomy in the remaining patients. The patients were followed-up for at least two years.
