Mantle irradiation is often part of the treatment for Hodgkin's disease. Localized pneumonitis and fibrosis are well-known sequelae of this treatment. In Nigeria as in West Africa generally measles is a serious condition with a high morbidity and mortality rate. Complications involve every section of Otolaryngology. Some of these are amenable to treatment by the otolaryngologist alone, while others need the skill of colleagues in other specialties. The irreversible neuro-audiological complications cause greatest concern to physician and parent and will continue to do so until the variety of available therapeutic, preventive and rehabilitative services are increased and improved.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) possess anti-inflammatory properties and participate in tissue repair. We used MSC to heal therapy-induced tissue toxicity. Ten consecutive patients, treated with MSC due to tissue toxicity following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, (ASCT) were included. Their median age was 48 (13-64) years. OBJECTIVE: To report two children admitted to our emergency department with respiratory failure, one for status asthmaticus with pneumomediastinum and requiring mechanical ventilation and the other for high suspicion of foreign body aspiration.
INTERVENTIONS: Bronchoscopy revealed obstructive plugs and permitted their extraction and their identification as bronchial casts after the immersion in normal saline. Allergy was suspected in the first one, and Hemophilus influenzae infection was present in the second. The outcome was favorable.
