Curcumin in oral health: mechanisms, clinical evidence, and delivery strategies.

Curcumin, a polyphenolic compound derived from the turmeric rhizome (Curcuma longa), has attracted significant interest in dentistry and oral medicine because of its multifaceted therapeutic properties. In particular, curcumin exhibits potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities that are relevant to a wide spectrum of oral diseases. We conducted a narrative search of PubMed (2000-2025) using iterative keyword combinations related to curcumin and oral diseases/mechanisms, screened reference lists, and selected studies on the basis of their relevance to oral pathobiology,

Survival and Success Rate of Restoration Post Endodontic Treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Dental restoration following endodontic treatment aims to restore tooth function, aesthetics, and strength compromised by caries or trauma. Loss of tooth structure post-treatment can reduce strength by up to 60%, increasing fracture risk. Restoration choice depends on remaining tooth structure, coronal sealing, retention, and occlusal factors. Direct restorations suit minimal damage, while indirect options like crowns or endocrowns address significant structural loss. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the durability and success of post-endodontic restorations through a scoping review focus

Semaphorin 7A Accelerates the Inflammatory Osteolysis of Periapical Lesions.

INTRODUCTION: Semaphorin 7A (SEMA7A), the only class VII semaphorin member, has been considered as a potent immunomodulatory regulator whose function in periapical lesions remains unclear. In our previous study, we found that SEMA7A was up-regulated in human periapical periodontitis and might be involved in the immune response and tissue destruction of periapical lesions. In this research, we aimed to further explore the specifical regulatory role of SEMA7A as well as its regulatory mechanisms in the inflammatory progression of periapical lesions. METHODS: Human periodontal ligament cells (hP

A Biphasic Calcium Phosphate Cement Enhances Dentin Regeneration by Dental Pulp Stem Cells and Promotes Macrophages M2 Phenotype In Vitro.

Calcium phosphate cement (CPC) is promising for bone and dentin repair and regeneration. However, there has been no report of biphasic CPC for inducing dentin regeneration. The aim of this study was to develop a novel biphasic CPC containing β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP), and investigate its effects on odontogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) and macrophage polarization. New biphasic CPC was formulated with different ratios of β-TCP to an equimolar mixture of tetracalcium phosphate and dicalcium phosphate anhydrous. Mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and odon

Trial shows partial caries removal is an effective technique in primary molars.

DESIGN: Randomised controlled trial in a university setting. INTERVENTION: Children aged three to eight years, with at least one molar with an acute, deep carious lesion into the dentine were recruited. Treatment took place under rubber dam with decayed dentine being removed completely from the lateral walls of cavities in both groups using round burs operated at low speed. TCR or PCR was then performed in the pulpal wall of each tooth. After caries removal teeth were restored with calcium hydroxide cement and composite resin. Teeth with pulpal exposure were pulpotomised using ferric sulphate

The chemical properties of light- and chemical-curing composites with mineral trioxide aggregate filler.

OBJECTIVE: One of the challenges encountered with composite restorations is their inability to prevent secondary caries. Alternative fillers that initiate remineralization have been proposed but poor mechanical strength limits their use to lining and support materials. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is a material with many dental applications including root-end filling and pulp capping. MTA is capable of encouraging remineralization by leaching calcium in solution, and has the ability to form apatite in physiological solution. The aim of this study was to characterize and investigate the che
