Isochlorogenic acid A impairs hepatitis B virus replication by interference with various steps of hepatitis B virus life cycle involving HO-1-mediated ROS modulation.

Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major health problem, affecting around 254 million people worldwide. Current treatments have side effects and can lead to resistance. Therefore, natural compounds derived from plants are being studied as potential antivirals. Isochlorogenic acid A (ICAA), which is derived from caffeoylquinic acid, exerts antiviral and hepatoprotective effects. The antioxidant effect of ICAA, triggered by upregulation of heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1), has been suggested as potential antiviral mechanism. However, the underlying mechanisms remain enigmatic. Our aim is to e

Sweet cherry is rich in diverse bioactive compounds and functional nutrients. Fruit firmness is a key determinant of postharvest storability, shelf life, and commercial value. Secondary metabolism is one of the important factors regulating sweet cherry fruit firmness, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying the regulation of firmness by secondary metabolism remain unclear. We performed integrated transcriptomic and untargeted metabolomic analyses at four key developmental stages using two cultivars with contrasting firmness: soft-fleshed 'Shangnan2808' and hard-fleshed 'Wanhongzhu'. We also co

Effect of UV-B radiation on morphology, phenolic compound production, gene expression, and subsequent drought stress responses in chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.).

It has been suggested that accumulation of flavonoids could be a key step in development of plant tolerance to different environmental stresses. Moreover, it has been recognized that abiotic stresses such as drought and UV-B radiation (280-315 nm) induce phenolic compound accumulation, suggesting a role for these compounds in drought tolerance. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of UV-B exposure on chili pepper (Capsicum annuum, cv. 'Coronel') plant performance, phenolic compound production, and gene expression associated with response to subsequent drought stress. Additio

Spatiotemporal synergistic drug co-delivery via a dual-crosslinked liposomal platform for potent NETs blockade in rheumatoid arthritis.

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are key drivers of autoimmune pathology and inflammatory cascades in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). NETs formation is jointly fueled by reactive oxygen species (ROS) burst and PAD4-mediated chromatin decondensation, suggesting that simultaneous blockade of both events represents a multi-pronged therapeutic strategy that single pathway inhibitors cannot achieve. However, multi-agents delivery systems often suffer from inconsistent in vivo behavior of the drugs, which undermines cooperative efficacy. Herein, we developed a PGP-modified, lipid bilayer-crosslinked
