BACKGROUND: Peritonsillar abscess is a common infection presenting as a collection of pus in the peritonsillar area. The condition is characterised by a severe sore throat, difficulty in swallowing and pain on swallowing, fever and malaise, and trismus. Needle aspiration and incision and drainage are the two main treatment modalities currently used in the treatment of this condition. The effectiveness of one versus the other has not been clearly demonstrated and remains an area of debate.
OBJECTIVES: To assess the effectiveness and risks of needle aspiration versus incision and drainage for t

RATIONALE: Mandibular Ewing sarcoma is exceptionally rare in children and frequently mimics common odontogenic infections. This overlap leads to delayed diagnosis and potentially rapid tumor progression. Early recognition and appropriate multimodal management are critical for improving outcomes.
PATIENT CONCERNS: An 11.5-year-old Iranian boy of Middle Eastern ethnicity presented with progressive left mandibular swelling and pain for 1 month, unresponsive to antibiotic therapy previously prescribed for presumed dental abscess.
DIAGNOSIS: Imaging (CT, MRI) revealed an aggressive destructive ma

Primary aggressive oral lymphomas (PAOL) are a rare subset of extranodal non-Hodgkin lymphomas arising in the oral cavity without evidence of other systemic involvement at diagnosis. PAOL accounts for only about 2-3% of all lymphomas. They most commonly belong to aggressive B-cell subtypes such as Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL), with occasional cases of Burkitt lymphoma and T-cell/NK-cell lymphomas. Clinically, these malignancies often present with non-specific symptoms (e.g., swelling, pain, ulceration, tooth mobility) that mimic benign dental condition

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a new approach to tissue regeneration and it is becoming a valuable adjunct to promote healing in many procedures in dental and oral surgery, especially in aging patients. PRP derives from the centrifugation of the patient's own blood and it contains growth factors that influence wound healing, thereby playing an important role in tissue repairing mechanisms. The use of PRP in surgical practice could have beneficial outcomes, reducing bleeding and enhancing soft tissue healing and bone regeneration. Studies conducted on humans have yielded promising results regard

Purpose to conduct a systematic review to assess whether photobiomodulation is effective in preventing oral mucositis in patients with hematologic diseases undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in the Embase, Medline/PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus, Web of Science and LILACS databases. The strategy included selected randomized clinical trials that evaluated the prevention of oral mucositis, directly comparing the use of photobiomodulation for chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis in patients with hematologic diseases with alternative non-laser therapies. BACKGROUND: Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ) located in the maxilla may lead to challenging oro-antral and oro-nasal defects too extensive to be predictably closed with local soft tissue flaps. The use of a pedicled myofascial temporalis flap (PMTF) is, however, well-established for closing large maxillary defects following ablative craniomaxillofacial surgery.
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the use of PMTF for maxillary defect closure in patients with stage 3 MRONJ.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted based on data from the C

BackgroundThe oral cavity is a common site of complications related to the cytotoxic effect of high-dose chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Considering our limited understanding of the burden of illness in the oral cavity from various cytotoxic therapies, it is difficult to produce evidence-based, preventive and management protocols. A prospective multicenter study is necessary to collect data on the burden of illness from various cytotoxic regimens.ObjectiveThe objectives of this prospective international observational multicenter study in hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) patients a

Pain is one of the most frequent reasons for seeking dental care and significantly influences patient comfort, treatment acceptance, and clinical outcomes. Effective management of dental pain requires accurate diagnosis, timely intervention, and the rational use of analgesics supported by evidence-based clinical decision-making. Recognizing the need for structured guidance for everyday dental practice, the Indian Society of Periodontology has developed Good Clinical Practice Recommendations on Pain Management and the Use of Analgesics in Dental Clinics. These recommendations were formulated by

OBJECTIVES: To date, the best treatment for Medication Related Osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is controversial. Recent studies suggest different therapies, considering the stage of MRONJ; however, sometimes patients, although with remarkable extension of disease, cannot undergo surgery. The purpose of present preliminary study was to evaluate the efficacy of conservative non-surgical treatment of MRONJ lesions in a cohort of patients ineligible for surgery or refusing any surgical treatment for stage II and III of MRONJ.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with MRONJ (staging II or III) ineligi
