The effects of a potassium citrate, cetylpyridinium chloride, sodium fluoride mouthrinse on dentine hypersensitivity, plaque and gingivitis. A placebo-controlled study.

Home-use studies on dentine hypersensitivity have most commonly involved toothpastes and rarely have mouthrinses been employed. Potassium and/or fluoride toothpastes have been shown effective in the treatment of dentine hypersensitivity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a total formulation, containing potassium citrate, sodium fluoride, cetylpyridinium chloride mouthrinse compared to the base rinse minus actives in the reduction of dentine hypersensitivity. The study was a randomised placebo controlled, double blind parallel design. At a screening visit, 90 adult subj

Teeth as forensic evidence for SRY gene-based gender determination: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Establishing biological gender is essential for human identification. In disaster and medico-legal cases with mutilated, burnt, or decomposed remains, routine skeletal or soft-tissue markers may be unreliable. Teeth are highly resilient and can preserve nuclear DNA. This scoping review maps evidence on PCR-based SRY detection from teeth and oral exfoliated cells, summarizes diagnostic performance across sample types and environmental conditions, and highlights key methodological gaps for future research. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This scoping review followed Joanna Briggs Institute gu

Efficacy of seventh generation bonding agents as desensitizers in patients with dentin hypersensitivity: a randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is one of the most challenging and persistent dental complaints characterized by transient, intense pain triggered by various stimuli. It affects a significant portion of the global population, predominantly those aged 20-40. This study aims to evaluate the desensitizing efficacy of seventh-generation dentin bonding agents (Single Bond Universal by 3 M ESPE and Xeno-V + by Dentsply) against a control group using Bifluorid 12 by Voco in mitigating DH within a month of the follow-up period. METHODS: This was a single-center, parallel-group, double-blind,

Potential of different fluoride gels to prevent erosive tooth wear caused by gastroesophageal reflux.

BACKGROUND: This in-vitro-study aimed to evaluate the potential of different fluoride gels to prevent gastroesophageal reflux induced erosive tooth wear. METHODS: Surface baseline profiles of a total of 50 bovine enamel specimens [randomly assigned to five groups (G1-5)] were recorded. All specimens were positioned in a custom made artificial oral cavity and perfused with artificial saliva (0.5 ml/min). Reflux was simulated 11 times a day during 12 h by adding HCl (pH 3.0) for 30 s (flow rate 2 ml/min). During the remaining 12 h (overnight), specimens were stored in artificial saliva and brus

Comparative clinical evaluation of acellular dermal matrix allograft and connective tissue graft for the treatment of gingival recession.

AIMS: "Gingival recession is a condition reported to occur due to abnormal periodontal anatomy, poor hygiene, excessive occlusal forces, toothbrush abrasion, and even iatrogenic or factitious causes. Though various surgical techniques are available to treat this problem, the most common is the palatal soft tissue autograft. Recently, an acellular dermal matrix allograft (ADMA) has been available as a substitute for the palatal tissue harvest. The aim of this study is to compare the ADMA with the conventional subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) in the treatment of gingival recession."

Time-course of clinical efficacy of a 5% calcium-sodium phosphosilicate toothpaste on dentine hypersensitivity.

OBJECTIVES: Anhydrous toothpastes containing 5% calcium-sodium phosphosilicate (CSPS) have well-established long-term efficacy against dentine hypersensitivity (DH). However, short-term efficacy is not well-characterised. This study investigated the degree of DH reduction over 3-56 days' twice-daily brushing with a 5% CSPS toothpaste and also explored user-reported impact on oral health-related quality-of-life (OHRQoL), via a DH Experience Questionnaire (DHEQ-48). METHODS: This single-centre, 8-week, randomized, controlled, examiner-blind, 2 treatment-arm, stratified, parallel-design clinical
