Zambia mental health country profile.

This country profile for Zambia was compiled between 1998 and 2002. The objectives of the exercise were to first of all avail policymakers, other key decision makers and leaders in Zambia, information about mental health in Zambia in order to assist policy and services development. Secondly, to facilitate comparative analyses of mental health services between countries. The work involved formation of a core group of experts who coordinated the collection of information from the various organizations in Zambia. The information was later shared to a broad spectrum of stakeholders for consensus.

[Post-traumatic stress, post-traumatic depression and major depressive episode: literature].

Although they are likely to add their effects, physical and psychic traumata (or traumas) can provoke in different ways the appearance of depressive symptoms sometimes common. Post-traumatic depression, reactional depression, major depressive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder represent different clinical and nosographic disorders in despite of their occasionally common symptomatic core. Historically, it is interesting to note during the XXth century the true semantic change of the terms of trauma from the somatic field to the psychic sphere. Physical traumatism is often represented b

Sustained War-Related Emergency Department Presentations and Evolving Civilian Injury Patterns During Recurrent Missile-Related Conflict.

INTRODUCTION: Prolonged missile-related conflicts may generate evolving civilian injury patterns and continuing war-related presentations to emergency departments. Although mass casualty incidents receive substantial attention in the disaster medicine literature, less is known regarding how civilian injury profiles and war-related emergency department presentations evolve during recurrent and prolonged conflict conditions. Understanding these changes is important for healthcare preparedness and continuity of emergency services. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective observational

Telehealth Use and Legal Considerations in Drug Health Services During Pandemics: Systematic Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic impacted patients with substance use disorder (SUD) more than the general population and resulted in substantially increased emergency department admissions. Routine care of patients attending drug health services during the pandemic transitioned, with telehealth being important in delivering appropriate care. However, telehealth introduces unique risks such as privacy, confidentiality, and data safety. Providing health care through telehealth may fail if the legal impacts are not fully identified and acted on by health professionals. It also poses unintended

The Flood-Related Behaviour of River Users in Australia.

INTRODUCTION: Flooding is a common natural disaster affecting 77.8 million people and claiming the lives of 4,731 people globally in 2016. During times of flood, drowning is a leading cause of death. Flooding is a known risk factor for river drowning in Australia. With little known about river usage in Australia, this study aimed to examine the links between person demographics and self-reported participation in two flood-related behaviours, driving through floodwaters and swimming in a flooded river. METHODS: A self-reported questionnaire was administered to adult river users at four high-ri

[Research progress on interference in the identification of accelerants in a fire scene].

Fire is one of the most common disasters threatening public safety and social development; arson, a typical violent crime, is a serious threat to people's lives and property. Suspects are likely to use accelerants to commit effective and rapid arson. Therefore, the identification of accelerants is of crucial importance in determining the nature of a fire. Fires are commonly complex and intricate, leading to remarkable interference in accelerant identification. During the development of a fire, thermal environment influences the preformed accelerant combustion residues, causing the characterist

Air quality in Malaysia: impacts, management issues and future challenges.

OBJECTIVE: Observations have been made on the long-term trends of major air pollutants in Malaysia including nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, the ozone and total suspended particulate matter (particularly PM10), and sulfur dioxide, emitted from industrial and urban areas from early 1970s until late 1998. METHODOLOGY: The data show that the status of atmospheric environment in Malaysia, in particular in highly industrialized areas such as Klang Valley, was determined both by local and transboundary emissions and could be described as haze and non-haze periods. RESULTS: During the non-haze p

[Post-traumatic psychosis: the contribution of an acute post-immediate trauma to a dynamic theorization].

SUMMARY: In his recent publication (2004), in which he favors the psycho-dynamic approach, M. Bertrand underlines the importance of traumatic matter at the heart of new clinical, methodological and epistemological challenges of psychopathology. TRAUMATIC PSYCHOSIS CONCEPT: Our contribution ("post-traumatic psychosis") comes within that prospect in reference to the semiology of traumas generated by extreme situations, such as the tsunami in South Asia (December 2004), the terrorist attacks in Madrid (March 2004) or the hostage taking in North Ossetia (September 2004). Global, regional, and national under-5 mortality, adult mortality, age-specific mortality, and life expectancy, 1970-2016: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2016.

BACKGROUND: Detailed assessments of mortality patterns, particularly age-specific mortality, represent a crucial input that enables health systems to target interventions to specific populations. Understanding how all-cause mortality has changed with respect to development status can identify exemplars for best practice. To accomplish this, the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2016 (GBD 2016) estimated age-specific and sex-specific all-cause mortality between 1970 and 2016 for 195 countries and territories and at the subnational level for the five countries with a po
