Four new diterpenoid alkaloids, namely liaotungenses A-D, along with twenty known constituents, were isolated from the roots of Aconitum liaotungense Nakai (Ranunculaceae). Liaotungensines A and B are rare franchetine-type C19-diterpenoid alkaloids characterized by their unique dual hydroxylation pattern at C-13 and C-15. Liaotungense D is identified as the third documented example of 8,15-seco diterpenoid alkaloids in this structural class. Structural characterization was achieved through integrated spectroscopic analysis employing IR, HR-ESI-MS, and comprehensive 1D/2D NMR techniques. All is

Three patients presented with an intoxication caused by Aconitum napellus, commonly known as Aconite, Monkshood or Wolfsbane. The first patient, a woman aged 24, was resuscitated after accidental ingestion of plant material 'from nature'. She experienced severe ventricular tachyarrhythmias. After discharge she returned with identical symptoms, which were now interpreted as intentional intoxication in a suicide attempt. She was referred to the Psychiatry department. The second patient was a 2-year-old boy who had cutaneous exposure to Aconite. Except for some red spots around his mouth there we

Aconitum kusnezoffii is a traditional Chinese medicine of Ranunculaceae family. Its toxicity is relatively strong, and its dosage is similar to that of poisoning. In clinical practice, poisoning events are often caused by excessive dosage or improper use. There is no specific antidote for kusnezoff root poisoning. Severe kusnezoff root poisoning can cause malignant arrhythmia and even death.A case of severe kusnezoff monkshood poisoning was reported in January 2021, which was treated with nificaran hydrochloride for injection in the emergency medicine department of the First Hospital of Handan

The crude extracts of tubers of Aconitum spicatum (Bruhl) Stapf were investigated for in vitro antileishmanial activity against Leishmania major. The dichloromethane extract at pH 2.5 showed antileishmanial activity with IC50 value of 27.10 ± 0.0 μg/mL. Chromatographic purification of the dichloromethane extract led to isolation of three C-19 norditerpenoid alkaloids indaconitine (1), chasmaconitine (2) and ludaconitine (3). Compounds 3 and 2 showed antileishmanial activity with IC50 = 36.10 ± 3.4 and 56.30 ± 2.1 μg/mL, respectively. Compound 1 was less effective (IC50 > 100 μg/mL). The cytoto

BACKGROUND: Aconitum plant poisoning typically manifests as isolated early cardiotoxicity or late neurotoxicity. However, the dynamic temporal evolution from arrhythmia-driven cardiogenic syncope to true epileptic seizures mediated by direct central nervous system injury remains rarely documented and poorly characterized.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 53-year-old Han Chinese male who presented with ventricular tachycardia rapidly degenerating into ventricular fibrillation and cardiac arrest following ingestion of homemade Aconitum kusnezoffii (caowu)-infused liquor. Initial convulsions were

Extracts of the plant Aconitum spec. are used in traditional Chinese medicine predominantly as anti-inflammatory and analgesic agents, the latter allegedly equally potent as morphine but without any habit-forming potential. As the only pharmacologically active compounds, the C19 diterpenoid alkaloid aconitine, and some of its derivatives, have been proven to be antinociceptive in different analgesic assays, but the mode of action is unknown. To elucidate the mode of action, ten aconitine-like derivatives were investigated with respect to their affinity for voltage-dependent Na+ channels, the a
