[Acting out and schizoid personality].

The Authors examine the crime-symptoms, sole index of an asymptomatic clinic history, and make some remarks on the indexes of social dangerousness. By this point of view, the structural traits of pre and post-critic personality seem to be a first predictory index. In relation to this question the Authors make mention to schizoidia.

[Mental disorders and dangerous acting out].

The major mental disorders which are most likely to lead to dangerous acting out are adult psychoses (schizophrenia and paranoia) and severe mood disorders (major depressive episodes and mania). Good knowledge of the symptomatology of these pathologies and their identification can help to anticipate and prevent much of the violence which people with these disorders may inflict on others or themselves. After mental assessment, those who commit wrongful and criminal acts may be ruled to be criminally irresponsible. They are then handed over to the relevant health care authorities for treatment f

[Acting out as criminal impulse. History, Definitions, Forensic aspects].

The present article aims to conduct a comprehensive review of the existing scientific literature on this human behavioral modality, impulsive and transient, which escapes the conscious control of the subject, from a psychopathological and forensic approach. To achieve this, historical points about the different nuances of the topic will be made, supplying a panoramic and critical overview of it. It can be said that these are implicit memories about past traumatic situations that, because of a present reenactment of the unpleasant event through a dissociative mechanism, generate in the individu

[Acting out and psychoactive substances: alcohol, drugs, illicit substances].

In humans, some psychotropic agents (alcohol, drugs, illicit substances) have been suggested to play a role in the occurrence of major behavioural disorders, mainly due to the suppression of psychomotor inhibition. Behavioural disinhibition is a physiological mechanism which allows humans to behave appropriately according to a given environmental situation. The behavioural disinhibition induced by either therapeutic dosage or misuse involves the loss of restraint over certain types of social behaviour and may increase the risk of auto or hetero-aggression and acting out. The increased use of p

The holding environment and family therapy with acting out adolescents.

The pathology of the holding environment in families of borderline, schizoid, and narcissistic adolescents is reviewed. A model for family therapy is described in which this pathological family environment can be examined. In this model, the family therapists function to contain displaced, projected, and acted-out affects and impulses. A clinical example illustrates how a therapist's capacity to acknowledge, bear, work through, and redirect these impulses in the family treatment offers family members an opportunity to reestablish previously severed communications, allowing for continued family

Withdrawn and Acting out?: Early Adolescents' Social Avoidance and Externalizing Problems.

Relative to other motivations of social withdrawal (i.e., shyness, unsociability), social avoidance is understudied. Furthermore, the relation between social avoidance and externalizing problems seldom has been investigated despite reasons to expect an association. We examined the association between social avoidance and externalizing problems using a sample of early adolescents in the United States using parents' reports (N = 294; 54.1% boys; M age = 12.43 years). Supporting our hypotheses, structural equation models indicated that social avoidance positively predicted concurrent externalizin

Implementation of comfort rooms to reduce seclusion, restraint use, and acting-out behaviors.

The use of seclusion and restraint as methods to control acting-out behaviors by individuals with mental illness continues, despite deaths and other negative outcomes to both the clients themselves and the staff members applying these techniques. Additionally, client-to-client and client-to-staff assaults and self-injurious behaviors can lead to injury or possible fatalities to both parties. Thus, there is a need to find alternative approaches to mitigate or even eliminate some of these behaviors. The use of comfort rooms is one such approach. With the institution of comfort rooms, one small, r

Low-dose cyproterone acetate treatment of sexual acting out in men with dementia.

Increased sexual activity in patients with dementia is problematic for caregivers and has no proven treatment. This report describes two male patients who had dementia with pronounced sexual acting out. One patient had vascular dementia and the other patient had Parkinson's disease with associated dementia. After nonresponse to neuroleptics and sedatives, low-dose cyproterone acetate successfully reduced sexual acting out without relevant side effects in both patients.

An hypothesis about heroin addiction, murder, prostitution, and suicide: acting out parenting conflicts.

From interviews with forty subjects, we have developed a preliminary hypothesis which can be refined and deepened and then tested by psychotherapeutic investigation. These murderers, prostitutes, heroin addicts and successful suicides all demonstrated various aspects of difficulty with their capacity for reciprocal tenderness. This arose from their experiences of exploitation and derprivation with their own parents. Their unique characteristics included primitive rage, insatiable demands and capacity for unconflicted manipulation. These characteristics colored the expression of their intrapsyc

[Ways of acting out the congenital Zika virus syndrome among families in Bahia State, Brazil].

This investigation aims to present a network of events in which congenital Zika syndrome (CZS) was woven. The study closely followed the care needs of the families, the fears, the biomedical uncertainties, the difficulties in understanding, the challenges outlined at the moment in which difficult decisions were made and the entire flow of events that show the reality of the disease. The methodological orientation was based on the assumption that CZS emerged as it was manipulated in different practices in various spaces as a reference. By conceiving the processes of health and disease in this w

Long-acting antiretroviral therapy in low-income and middle-income countries: considerations for roll-out.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Long-acting ART (LA-ART) in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) may address specific issues that affect people living with HIV (PWH) and people at substantial risk of HIV infection. We reviewed products in use and under consideration in LMICS, current and anticipated challenges for implementation, and offer strategies for effective rollout. RECENT FINDINGS: Factors to consider for effective implementation of LA-ART in LMICs are: managing co-conditions (pregnancy) and comorbidities (TB and hepatitis B); medication access, both cost and supply-related; and health s

Acting out hostility in normal volunteers: negative correlation with levels of 5HIAA in cerebrospinal fluid.

We examined relationships in normal volunteers between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of the serotonin metabolite 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5HIAA) and scores on the Hostility and Direction of Hostility Questionnaire. There was a significant negative correlation between CSF 5HIAA levels and scores on the "urge to act out hostility" subscale, as well as a similar nonsignificant trend with CSF levels of homovanillic acid. These results suggest that among normal individuals reduced central serotonergic tone may be associated with impaired impulse control.

Long-acting anticoagulant rodenticide poisoning: an evidence-based consensus guideline for out-of-hospital management.

The objective of this guideline is to assist poison center personnel in the out-of-hospital triage and initial management of patients with suspected exposure to long-acting anticoagulant rodenticides (LAAR). An evidence-based expert consensus process was used to create this guideline. It is based on an assessment of current scientific and clinical information. The panel recognizes that specific patient care decisions may be at variance with this guideline and are the prerogative of the patient and health professionals providing care. The grade of recommendation is in parentheses. 1) Patients w

Are women benefiting from the Affordable Care Act? A real-world evaluation of the impact of the Affordable Care Act on out-of-pocket costs for contraceptives.

OBJECTIVES: The Affordable Care Act (ACA) mandated that, starting between August 1, 2012 and July 31, 2013, health plans cover most Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved contraceptive methods for women without cost sharing. This study examined the impact of the ACA on out-of-pocket expenses for contraceptives. STUDY DESIGN: Women (ages 15-44years) with claims for any contraceptives in years 2011, 2012 and 2013 were identified from the MarketScan Commercial database. The proportions of women using contraceptives [including permanent contraceptives (PCs) and non-PCs: oral contraceptives (
