The Müllerian adenosarcoma is an extremely rare entity of tumours of the group of the Müllerian and mesodermal mixed tumours. This tumour seems to be a malignant transformation of the uterine papillary cystadenofibroma. The periglandular malignant transformation of the stromal component and the benign glandular structures are typical signs of the Müllerian adenosarcoma. In accordance with references the prognosis of the adenosarcoma is better than those of other Müllerian mixed tumours. The demonstrated cases warn against undervalue.

A case of rhabdomyosarcomatous adenosarcoma of the uterine cervix is described and the literature reviewed. This variant of adenosarcoma does not appear to be more malignant than other adenosarcomas. It can and should be differentiated from embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma and malignant mixed müllerian tumor because of the different prognostic implications and therapeutic approaches.

Uterine adenosarcoma is an apparently benign mixed tumor with a muller type epithelial component and a sarcomatous stromal component. We present a patient with remodeled genital prolapse who developed a bifocal localization in the endometrium and vagina. These tumors are uncommon, 8% of the sarcomatous tumors of the uterus. Their usual presentation may mimic cervical or endometrial polyps. Pathology is required for positive diagnosis which evidences the two components. The diagnosis may be missed at the first examination (two-thirds of the cases in certain series). Treatment is surgical with h

BACKGROUND: Adenosarcoma arising in inguinal endometriosis is a rare clinical entity.
CASE: A 47-year-old nulligravida presented with a persistent and enlarged right groin mass. Sixteen years earlier she had undergone total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for endometriosis and was placed on estrogen therapy. Surgical en bloc excision of the 12 x 4 cm inguinal mass revealed adenosarcoma arising in endometriosis.
CONCLUSION: Although a rare entity, adenosarcoma arising in inguinal endometriosis should be included in the differential diagnosis for those patients with

BACKGROUND: Adenosarcoma in a patient with extraovarian endometriosis is a rare event and can be easily overlooked.
CASE: A woman with a history of endometriosis underwent multiple resections of a vaginal mass and medical treatment for presumed recurrent endometriosis. Eventually, a vaginal adenosarcoma was diagnosed.
CONCLUSION: The possibility of adenosarcoma should be considered if an enlarging mass occurs at the site of extraovarian endometriosis.

A 52-year-old postmenopausal woman presented with signs and symptoms of acute pelvic inflammatory disease. On vaginal speculum examination, an infected polypoid tumor protruding from a dilated cervical canal was disclosed. While the patient was under extensive antibiotic treatment, uterine curettage was performed. This was followed a few days later by a total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Histopathological examination demonstrated the tumor to be Müllerian adenosarcoma of the uterine endometrium. The patient had postoperative vaginal vault irradiation, and more th

OBJECTIVE: Mullerian adenosarcoma usually originates in the endometrium and grows as a polypoid mass in post-menopausal women presenting as abnormal vaginal bleeding. This report reviewed Miillerian adenosarcoma cases to clarify the clinical and pathologic characteristics.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifteen cases ofMiillerian adenosarcoma in two medical centers covering a 15-year period were reviewed. Their clinical characteristics, pathologic findings, treatment, and outcomes were compared.
RESULTS: Of the 15 cases, three originated from the endometrium, six arose from uterine adenomyosis, thre

Müllerian adenosarcomas most commonly arise in the uterine corpus from the eutopic endometrium. Occasionally, they arise in the cervix, vagina, broad and round ligaments, and ovaries and rarely in extragenital sites, usually in association with endometriosis. The authors report a rare case of extraendometrial, intramural adenosarcoma of low grade arising from a subserosal adenomyoma in a 46-year-old woman who presented with vaginal bleeding. No evidence of eutopic endometrial origin was identified; the adenosarcoma showed only limited myometrial invasion and no serosal involvement. Because of

We report on two similar cases of young women with irregular menstrual bleeding. Curettage and biopsy revealed an adenofibroma of the uterus in case 1 (31 yrs) and an uterine adenosarcoma in case 2 (30 yrs). Hysterectomy was subsequently performed in both patients: histological examination of the hysterectomy specimen showed no remnants of the tumour in case 1. There was adenosarcoma tissue in the uterine cavity of case 2 but no myometrial infiltration. The difficulties of differential diagnosis of uterine soft tissue tumours in young women are discussed and the literature is reviewed.

Mullerian adenosarcoma is an uncommon, but not rare, mixed tumor containing a neoplastic but benign or mildly atypical epithelial element and a sarcomatous, usually low-grade, stromal component. The most common site is the uterine corpus but adenosarcoma also occurs in the cervix and ovary and more rarely in the vagina, fallopian tube, arising from peritoneal surfaces, or outside the female genital tract, for example in the intestine. Most uterine cases have a polypoid gross appearance, sometimes resulting in the formation of multiple polyps. Characteristic histologic features include a low po

BACKGROUND: Cervical mullerian adenosarcoma is a rare uterine sarcoma, especially in young women. Its pathological features are low-grade malignant tumors with bidirectional differentiation, and the degree of malignancy is similar to that of low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma. This paper reports the case of a young asexual patient who has been closely followed up after tumor resection and has not had any recurrences.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 20-year-old, young asexual woman was diagnosed with cervical mullerian adenosarcoma with sarcomatous overgrowth (MASO). Cervical tumor resection was perfo

The objective for the study was to analysis the epidemiology of adenosarcoma, and independent prognostic factors and impact of lymph node dissection (LND) of uterine adenosarcoma. Cases of patients with primary adenosarcoma were obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database from 2000 to 2016. Overall survival was analyzed by the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test. The differences in baseline covariates between the 2 groups were adjusted by inverse probability of treatment weighting method. The prognostic factors were identified by univariate and multivariate

Adenosarcomas are biphasic neoplasms that usually originate in the uterine corpus and comprise a benign epithelial component and a malignant stromal component. Uterine adenosarcomas typically present with abnormal genital bleeding, an enlarged uterus, and a tumor that protrudes into the endometrial cavity. These tumors rarely protrude through the cervical os and are often misdiagnosed as cervical polyps. We present the case of a patient with cervical adenosarcoma with characteristics different from those reported in previous cases. This tumor showed endophytic growth, which is rare in cervical

Uterine adenosarcoma is a rare gynecological malignancy with no specific symptoms, and the optimal management is still inconclusive. Herein we present a case of uterine adenosarcoma in a 38-year-old woman with a good prognosis and review of literatures. The patient presented with abnormal vaginal bleeding with no special medical history. Sonographic scan revealed a heterogeneous echoic mass in the cavity, indicating a polypus or a submucous myoma. The pathology based on the specimen after the hysteroscopic tumor excision suggested diagnosis of uterine adenosarcoma. Subsequently, the patient re

Mullerian adenosarcoma with sarcomatous overgrowth (MASO) of the uterine cervix is an extremely rare variant of adenosarcoma of the genital tract associated with aggressive clinical course. We searched the PubMed and Medline databases for MASO of the cervix and we identified and reviewed eleven cases published between years 2004 and 2017. The most common clinical picture includes abnormal vaginal bleeding, postcoital bleeding, pelvic pain and foul-smelling vaginal discharge. Therapeutic options for MASO are still undefined. Radical hysterectomy with sufficient tumour-free margins combined with

The clinicopathologic features of 4 cases of Müllerian adenosarcoma of the uterine body and 1 of the cervix are reported. They showed the characteristic pattern of benign epithelial growth within sarcomatous stroma. In the cervical tumor, malignant heterologous stromal cells were also present. All the patients are alive and well, confirming the good prognosis of this neoplasm. The authors think that the presence of a malignant heterologous component probably does not imply a worse prognosis.

OBJECTIVE: To report on the diagnosis and management of Müllerian adenosarcoma of the uterine cervix at a gynecologic oncology unit in Singapore.
METHODS: Nine cases (1992-2008) were identified from the unit registry. All hospital records were retrospectively analyzed.
RESULTS: Mean age at diagnosis was 45±12 years (range, 17-61 years). Presenting symptoms were abnormal vaginal bleeding (5 [55.6%] patients), introital mass (3 [33.3%] patients), and foul-smelling vaginal discharge (1 [11.1%] patient). Two (22.2%) patients were asymptomatic, with cervical polyps discovered incidentally on rout

A polypoid tumor located in the renal pelvis with both epithelial and sarcomatous elements is described. The epithelial component was histologically benign and resembled urothelium. The sarcomatous component showed undifferentiated cells and rhabdomyoblastic elements. The term mesonephric adenosarcoma is proposed to describe this biphasic tumor. Although this tumor might be histogenetically related to Wilms' tumor, it is morphologically distinct, and might behave more aggressively.

OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to identify MRI features distinguishing uterine adenosarcoma from endometrial polyps and to predict the presence or absence of sarcomatous overgrowth (SO), a pathological finding linked to poor prognosis.
METHODS: This multicenter retrospective study included 11 cases of uterine adenosarcoma, with 5 showing SO and 6 without, and 20 cases of endometrial polyps measuring 3 cm or greater diameter. Quantitative evaluations (tumor volume, cystic lesion size, diffusion-weighted imaging [DWI] signal ratio, apparent diffusion coefficient [ADC] value, and normalized
