[Cystic degeneration of the popliteal artery adventitia].

The author presents the case-history of a typical clinical picture of a rare vascular affection--cystic degeneration of the adventitia of the popliteal artery in a young man. The diagnostic conclusion was reached by means of duplex sonography and angiography of the extremity, the condition was treated by reconstruction surgery. With regard to its long-term effect the author prefers it to some non-surgical procedures which include in particular transluminal angioplasty or sonographically assisted needle aspiration of the cyst.

[Cystic degeneration of the tunica adventitia of the popliteal artery].

INTRODUCTION: Adventitial cystic disease of the popliteal artery (PA) is an uncommon and unique entity characterized by a mucinous cyst located in the arterial adventitia. As the cyst enlarges, it provokes vascular compression with stenosis or occlusion, the first only during the knee flexion, and then in all leg position. Atkins and Key (1946) were the first who described this disease in the external iliac artery [1]. Eirup and Hiertonn (1956) described the disease in the PA, which is the place of its most common localization. The aim of the paper is the presentation of our 10 cases of PA adv

[The diagnosis of cystic degeneration of the adventitia (author's transl)].

The clinical picture of cystic degeneration of the adventitia is illustrated by two cases. This usually occurs in a portion of an artery near a joint, most commonly in the popliteal artery. The diagnosis is made in the presence of irregular, intermittent claudication associated with an "hour glass" stenosis of the popliteal artery on the arteriogram, without displacement of the vessel. The aetiology is probably related to herniation of the synovia from the adjacent joint capsule; this explains not only the variable pressure within the cyst in the arterial wall, but also the connection found at

[Adventitia resection in cystic degeneration of the popliteal artery].

Adventitial cystic disease is a rare form of non-atherosclerotic stenosis of the popliteal artery. It is caused by synovial-like cysts in the subadventitial tissue layer of the arterial wall causing compression of the lumen. The cysts contain mucinous material similar to that found in joint-ganglia. Popliteal artery stenoses causing claudication in young patients is the leading symptom of this disease. The classical therapy is the surgical excision of the diseased artery and interposition grafting with saphenous vein. As an alternative method we present the technique of complete circumferentia

[Cystic degeneration of the adventitia of the popliteal artery (author's transl)].

Cystic degeneration of the adventitia of the popliteal artery is a rare clinico-angiographic diagnosis in the chronic ischaemia syndrome of the lower extremity. If the three cardinal signs occur concomitantly, namely, intermittent ischaemia syndrome, unilocular manifestation near the joint and clearly limited filling defect in the arteriogram, diagnosis can be made with a high measure of certainty. Among our angiographically examined patients, we observed, in the course of one year, three male patients who presented the full picture of the disease with regard to clinic, localisation and angiog

Generation of Cardiomyocytes From Vascular Adventitia-Resident Stem Cells.

RATIONALE: Regeneration of lost cardiomyocytes is a fundamental unresolved problem leading to heart failure. Despite several strategies developed from intensive studies performed in the past decades, endogenous regeneration of heart tissue is still limited and presents a big challenge that needs to be overcome to serve as a successful therapeutic option for myocardial infarction. OBJECTIVE: One of the essential prerequisites for cardiac regeneration is the identification of endogenous cardiomyocyte progenitors and their niche that can be targeted by new therapeutic approaches. In this context

The adventitia, vascular inflammation, and the intersection of hypertension and vascular disease.

Hypertension is a leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease, promoting atherosclerosis through interrelated mechanisms of mechanical stress and vascular inflammation. The adventitia and perivascular adipose tissue have emerged as critical sites of immune cell accumulation and cytokine production in hypertension. This review examines the cellular and molecular mechanisms linking adventitial inflammation to vascular stiffening and end-organ damage. Hypertension induces accumulation of effector memory T cells in the adventitia and perivascular fat, driven by chemokines including RANTES/CCL5.

[Histological study of the tracheal adventitia, perichondrium and annular ligament].

The trachea begins at the lower border of the cricoid cartilage and passes down to bifurcate into the left and right mainstem bronchi. The presence of tracheal invasion is crucial factor influencing the prognosis for patients with cancers of the thyroid gland, hypopharynx, esophagus, etc. In order to understand the manner of invasion of the above tumors, precise knowledge of the normal tracheal structure is indispensable. This study was undertaken to clarify the normal microscopic structure of the trachea. Five normal tracheal specimens obtained at surgery were examined histologically and immu

Hemorrhagic infiltration of the aortopulmonary adventitia: A complication of acute aortic dissection.

BACKGROUND: Hemorrhagic infiltration of the common aortopulmonary adventitia is an infrequent complication of acute aortic dissection, most frequently Stanford type A. The radiological interpretation of this finding may be a diagnostic challenge. The objective of this multicenter case series is to review the radiological and pathological findings of hemorrhagic infiltration of the aortopulmonary adventitia secondary to acute aortic dissection, and to describe the pathophysiology underlying this complication. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study includes 20 cases of aortic dissection with hemorrhag

Bacteria in the adventitia of cardiovascular disease patients with and without rheumatoid arthritis.

The incidence of atherosclerosis is significantly increased in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Infection is one factor that may be involved in the pathogenesis of both diseases. The cause of RA and atherosclerosis is unknown, and infection is one of the factors that may be involved in the pathogenesis of both diseases. The aims of this study were to identify bacteria in the aortic adventitia of patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the presence and absence of RA, and to determine the effect of identified candidate pathogens on Toll-like receptor (TLR)-dependent signalling and the proinflamm

A New Concept in Peripheral Nerve Repair: Incorporating the Tunica Adventitia.

Pedicled, prefabricated, and free nerve flaps have several drawbacks, such as requiring microsurgical anastomosis, the need for secondary operations and the risk of developing thrombosis. In this study, we aimed to vascularize the repaired nerve in a single session by establishing a connection between the epineurium of the repaired median nerve and the tunica adventitia of the brachial artery. The technique was performed on the median nerves of a total of 42 rats over 13 weeks. While group 1 didn't receive any intervention, the following three groups (2, 3, and 4) received classic treatments (c

Effects of adrenomedullin on cell proliferation in rat adventitia induced by aldosterone.

OBJECTIVE: Aldosterone is involved in cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and heart failure by inducing sodium retention and vascular remodeling, which is characterized by fibroblast proliferation and migration in adventitia. It is well known that aldosterone stimulates vascular smooth muscle cells and fibroblasts to produce and secrete adrenomedullin (ADM), a multiple functional peptide with an important cytoprotective effect against cardiovascular damage. We examined the effect of aldosterone on ADM production and secretion and its mRNA expression in rat aortic adventitia to study t

The discovery and a study of the adventitia rectalis, a fibrous layer of the rectal wall.

In sacral anoplasty, it is frequently found that an outer layer of the rectal wall, which resembles the structure of the taenia bands of the colon, limits the elasticity of the rectum making it different from the small intestine, hence preventing the rectal stump from being advanced to reach the perineum. Results of autopsy studies on 40 human babies and 40 dogs showed that a special collagenous fibrous layer called adventitia rectalis was found to limit the free expansion of the rectal wall. This was responsible for keeping the rectum a straight tubular shape with a fixed volume. This tissue

[Cystic degeneration of the adventitia of the popliteal artery: ultrasound angiography-aided puncture].

A filiform stenosis of the popliteal artery was examined by sonography and the reason for the cystic lesion in the arterial wall was found to be an uncommon type of cystic degeneration of the adventitia. The narrow lumen could be demonstrated by sonography and the lesion was punctured under ultrasound control. A viscous secretion was removed and the patient's claudication was cured without recourse to surgery.

[Cystic degeneration of the adventitia of the popliteal artery as a possible sequela of entrapment syndrome].

We report two cases of cystic adventitial degeneration of the popliteal artery in young sportsmen. The pathogenetic role of microtrauma is suggested by the localisation of the adventitial cysts, the clinical symptoms, as well as the immunohistochemical demonstration of foamy macrophages instead of endothelial cells in the wall of the cysts. In one case the cause of the intermittent claudication could be verified by duplex sonography and comparison of the arterial pressure of both legs with a Doppler method only after physical exercise. As expected, an angiodilatation has only a temporary effec
