Two new species of Resupinatus (Resupinataceae, Agaricales) from China.

Within the typical saprotrophic genus Resupinatus, only 47 species are currently recognized worldwide. Most of these species are reported from Europe and North America, whereas only 12 species have been recorded from China. Species of Resupinatus are characterized by laterally or dorsally attached basidiomata, sessile or with a lateral pseudostipe, a gelatinous pileus, smooth and inamyloid basidiospores, cylindrical to coralloid cheilocystidia with apical protrusions, and pileipellis hyphae with branches or protrusions. They usually occur on dead branches and well-decayed wood in mixed conifer

Three new species of Pholiotina (Bolbitiaceae, Agaricales) from China.

In this study, maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference phylogenetic trees were reconstructed for Pholiotina based on the phylogenetic framework of the genus established by Song and Bau and on a concatenated dataset of internal transcribed spacer (ITS), nuclear large subunit ribosomal DNA (28S), and translation elongation factor 1-alpha (tef1-α) sequences. The phylogenetic trees resolved Pholiotina into two monophyletic clades: one containing sect. Pholiotina and the other comprising sect. Vestitae together with sect. Intermediae. The infrageneric subdivision of the genus was also reviewed, a

Ecological genomics of saprotrophy to biotrophy transitions in the genus Clitopilus (Fr. ex Rabenh.) P. Kumm. (Agaricales, Entolomataceae).

Transitions between saprotrophic and biotrophic lifestyles represent pivotal evolutionary events in fungal ecology; however, the genomic and physiological mechanisms underlying such shifts remain poorly understood. The agaric genus Clitopilus (Basidiomycota, Entolomataceae) offers a valuable model system, with most species being soil saprotrophs. Clitopilus cf. baronii Consiglio & Setti exhibits genomic signatures suggesting incipient biotrophic capacity. Here, we investigated the genomic and eco-physiological properties of seven strains representing five Clitopilus species to identify traits

A convenient separation strategy for fungal anthraquinones by centrifugal partition chromatography.

As recently shown, some fungal pigments exhibit significant photoactivity turning them into promising agents for the photodynamic treatment of microbial infections or malignant diseases. In the present study, a separation strategy for fungal anthraquinones was developed based on centrifugal partition chromatography. A suitable method was explored employing a methanolic extract of the fruiting bodies of Cortinarius sanguineus (Agaricales, Basidiomycota). An excellent fractionation was achieved using a biphasic solvent system comprising chloroform/ethyl acetate/methanol/water/acetic acid (3:1:3:

Laccase Production from Agrocybe pediades: Purification and Functional Characterization of a Consistent Laccase Isoenzyme in Liquid Culture.

Laccases are valuable enzymes as an excellent ecological alternative for bioremediation issues because they can oxidize persistent xenobiotic compounds. The production and characterization of extracellular laccases from saprotrophic fungi from disturbed environments have been scarcely explored, even though this could diversify their functional characteristics and expand the conditions in which they carry out their catalysis. Agrocybe pediades, isolated from a disturbed forest, produces an extracellular laccase in liquid culture. The enzyme was purified, identified and characterized. Copper and

Heterologous Expression, Engineering and Characterization of a Novel Laccase of Agrocybe pediades with Promising Properties as Biocatalyst.

Agaricomycetes fungi responsible for decay of wood and other lignocellulosic substrates constitute a valuable source of lignin-degrading enzymes. Among these enzymes, laccases (multi-copper oxidases) present remarkable biotechnological potential as environmentally friendly biocatalysts able to oxidize a wide range of aromatic compounds using oxygen as the only requirement. Laccases from saprotrophic Agaricales species have been much less studied than laccases from Polyporales, despite the fact that the former fungi are excellent sources of laccases. Here, the gene of a novel laccase of Agrocyb

Diversity, biology, and history of psilocybin-containing fungi: Suggestions for research and technological development.

Therapeutic use of psilocybin has become a focus of recent international research, with preliminary data showing promise to address a range of treatment-resistant mental health conditions. However, use of psilocybin as a healing entheogen has a long history through traditional consumption of mushrooms from the genus Psilocybe. The forthcoming adoption of new psilocybin-assisted therapeutic practices necessitates identification of preferred sources of psilocybin; consequently, comprehensive understanding of psilocybin-containing fungi is fundamental to consumer safety. Here we examine psilocybi
