Aggressive driving in Portugal: assessing the metric properties of the aggressive Driving Behaviour scale.

Aggressive driving behaviour is a pervasive global problem, underscoring the necessity of reliable and valid measurement instruments. This study examines the psychometric properties of the Aggressive Driving Behaviour Scale (ADBS), an 11-item measure of aggressive driving behaviour conceptualised as comprising two factors: Conflict Behaviour and Acceleration. The scale, along with the PADI, was administered to a sample of 1,538 Portuguese drivers (902 female), aged between 18 and 80 years; a subsample of 278 completed the DAS-Short Form and the BIS-11. Confirmatory factor analysis supported th

Forgivingness, anger, and hostility in aggressive driving.

This study was aimed at investigating the relationship between trait forgivingness, general anger, hostility, driving anger, and self-reported aggressive driving committed by the driver him/herself ("self" scale) and perceiving him/herself as an object of other drivers' aggressive acts ("other" scale). The Slovak version of questionnaires was administrated to a sample of 612 Slovak and Czech drivers. First, the factor structure of the Driver Anger Indicators Scale (DAIS) was investigated. Factor analyses of the self and other parts of the DAIS resulted in two factors, which were named as aggre

The impact of police presence on angry and aggressive driving.

An extensive body of research has found that angry and aggressive driving are both significantly related to crash involvement. There has also been a large body of research investigating the situational factors related to angry and aggressive driving, but one interesting question that has not yet been answered is whether the enforcement of traffic laws causes or reduces angry and aggressive driving. The independent region of Northern Kosovo represents a unique opportunity to investigate the impact of a lack of traffic enforcement on driving behaviour. Therefore, the present study set out to inv

The prosocial and aggressive driving inventory (PADI): a self-report measure of safe and unsafe driving behaviors.

Surveys of 1217 undergraduate students supported the reliability (inter-item and test-retest) and validity of the Prosocial and Aggressive Driving Inventory (PADI). Principal component analyses on the PADI items yielded two scales: Prosocial Driving (17 items) and Aggressive Driving (12 items). Prosocial Driving was associated with fewer reported traffic accidents and violations, with participants who were older and female, and with lower Boredom Susceptibility and Hostility scores, and higher scores on Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Openness, and Neuroticism. Aggressive Driving was associa

The centrality of cognition and coping styles in driving aggressive responses.

OBJECTIVE: Despite the presence of theoretical frameworks explaining aggression, they still require refinement in the form of a specification of mechanisms that facilitate such behaviour. METHOD: Study 1 recruited participants (N = 31) from the general population (N = 20) and from a forensic hospital (N = 11). It was expected that aggression supportive cognitions and stress would be positively associated with aggressive behaviour. An experimental paradigm was used to induce stress and participants were subsequently given the opportunity to aggress. Study 2 was based on self-report questionnai

Motivational drive and alprazolam misuse: A recipe for aggression?

Benzodiazepine-related aggression has received insufficient research attention, in particular little is known about the motivational factors which may contribute to the development of this paradoxical response. The revised Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory provides a theoretical framework from which to understand the relevant underlying motivational processes. The current study aimed to identify the role of approach and avoidance motivational tendencies in the occurrence of benzodiazepine-related aggression. Data regarding benzodiazepine and other substance use, approach and avoidance motivatio

Aggressive and unsafe driving in male veterans receiving residential treatment for PTSD.

Aggressive and unsafe driving was examined in 474 male veterans receiving Veterans Affairs residential treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Specifically, the authors evaluated if PTSD was associated with aggressive and unsafe driving and if Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans were at higher risk than other war veterans. Approximately two thirds of the sample reported lifetime aggressive driving and one third reported current aggressive driving. Posttraumatic stress disorder severity was associated with aggressive driving, but not other forms of unsafe driving. Iraq and Afghanistan

Mating pair drives aggressive behavior in female Drosophila.

Aggression is an adaptive set of behaviors that allows animals to compete against one another in an environment of limited resources. Typically, males fight for mates and food, whereas females fight for food and nest sites.1 Although the study of male aggression has been facilitated by the extravagant nature of the ritualized displays involved and the remarkable armaments sported by males of many species,2,3,4 the subtler and rarer instances of inter-female aggression have historically received much less attention. In Drosophila, females display high levels of complex and highly structured agg

MYCN amplification drives an aggressive form of spinal ependymoma.

Spinal ependymal tumors form a histologically and molecularly heterogeneous group of tumors with generally good prognosis. However, their treatment can be challenging if infiltration of the spinal cord or dissemination throughout the central nervous system (CNS) occurs and, in these cases, clinical outcome remains poor. Here, we describe a new and relatively rare subgroup of spinal ependymal tumors identified using DNA methylation profiling that is distinct from other molecular subgroups of ependymoma. Copy number variation plots derived from DNA methylation arrays showed MYCN amplification as

Examining the influence of aggressive driving behavior on driver injury severity in traffic crashes.

In this paper, we capture the moderating effect of aggressive driving behavior while assessing the influence of a comprehensive set of variables on injury severity. In doing so, we are able to account for the indirect effects of variables on injury severity through their influence on aggressive driving behavior, as well as the direct effect of variables on injury severity. The methodology used in the paper to accommodate the moderating effect of aggressive driving behavior takes the form of two models--one for aggressive driving and another for injury severity. These are appropriately linked t

Warning drivers about potential congestion as a means to reduce frustration-driven aggressive driving.

OBJECTIVE: This research was conducted to examine the consequences of forewarning drivers about impending congestion on aggressive driving behavior. Some have argued that aggressive driving stems from frustration experienced on the roadway (often due to congestion), and that by warning drivers about congestion, frustration, and consequently aggressive driving, can be reduced. METHODS: The study employed an experimental design, where participants (whose dispositional driver anger was measured using the Driver Anger Scale) were instructed to operate an instrumented vehicle along a prescribed ro

Mesenchymal stroma drives axonogenesis and nerve-induced aggressiveness in osteosarcoma.

BACKGROUND: Osteosarcoma (OS), the most common primary bone malignancy, is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality in children and adolescents. Besides genomic abnormalities, several features of tumour microenvironment (TME), including cancer-associated mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC), have been recognized to play a key role in OS progression. The pathogenetic function of de novo innervation in TME has been extensively studied in carcinomas but is still an unexplored area of investigation in sarcomas, including OS. METHODS: We evaluated nerve infiltration in tissue samples from a small co

SNRPA upregulation promotes mitochondrial function and drives CRPC aggressiveness.

Identifying novel molecular targets for castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) is crucial. This study examines the expression and functional role of small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptide A (SNRPA), a core component of the U1 snRNP complex, in CRPC. Bioinformatics analyses indicate a positive correlation between SNRPA overexpression and the aggressiveness of prostate cancer, with high levels linked to poor outcomes. Single-cell RNA data further shows increased SNRPA expression in prostate cancer cells. Expression of SNRPA is also elevated in both locally-treated CRPC tissues and vari

Effect of personality traits, age and sex on aggressive driving: Psychometric adaptation of the Driver Aggression Indicators Scale in China.

This study aimed to assess the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Driver Aggression Indicators Scale (DAIS), which measures aggressive driving behaviors. Besides, demographic variables (sex and age) and the big five personality traits were examined as potential impact factors of aggressive driving. A total of 422 participants completed the DAIS, Big Five Personality Inventory (BFPI), and the socio-demographic scale. First, psychometric results confirmed that the DAIS had a stable two-factor structure and acceptable internal consistency. Then, agreeableness and conscientious

NRF2 Drives Aggressiveness and Chemoresistance in Ovarian Cancer Stem-like Cells.

Advanced-stage ovarian cancer remains a major clinical challenge because of its aggressive behavior and the frequent development of chemoresistance. The nuclear factor erythroid-derived 2-like 2 (NRF2) signaling pathway regulates cellular redox homeostasis. However, its role in ovarian cancer stem-like cells remains unclear. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the effects of NRF2 overexpression on acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH)+ KURAMOCHI ovarian cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. In particular, we investigated the effects of NRF2 on tumor-associated behaviors, chemoresistance, and signaling
