Effects of discharge plasma on seed germination and volatile compounds content of Agropyron Mongolicum.

To investigate the effects of discharge plasma on Agropyron mongolicum seeds, various treatments including direct exposure to discharge plasma, combined treatment with discharge plasma and plasma-activated water (PAW) were applied to the seeds. The changes in germination rate, MDA content, and volatile compound levels of Agropyron mongolicum seeds after different treatments were examined. The results showed that the direct effect of plasma had no significant effect on the MDA content or germination rate of Agropyron mongolicum seeds due to the limited penetration depth. However, the combined e

Co-expression analysis provides a new strategy for mining key metabolites and genes in response to drought stress in Agropyron mongolicum.

Drought is a major natural disaster that affects plant growth. Agropyron mongolicum possesses a wide range of drought tolerance genes acquired during its long evolution and adaptation to harsh environments. However, the regulatory mechanisms for drought resistance in A. mongolicum are complex, limiting the development and utilization of gene resources in response to drought stress. In this study, we examined differences in morphological, physiological, metabolite and transcript levels between the drought-tolerant (T) and drought-sensitive (S) genotypes of A. mongolicum to identify key metaboli

Species of the Genus ×Agrotrigia (Hordeeae, Poaceae)-A Case of a Different Pattern of Parental rDNA Elimination.

All taxa of plants have undergone several rounds of whole-genome duplication (WGD), accompanying interspecific and intergeneric crosses; subsequently, some part of one or both parent genomes in hybrid plants can be eliminated. The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationships of the intergeneric hybrid ×Agrotrigia (Poaceae) species with the taxa of parental genera Agropyron and Elytrigia and to determine the distribution as well as conservation or loss of parental genomes in the genomes of hybrid species. Molecular phylogenetic analysis of nuclear (ITS, ETS) and several chloroplast

Biosystematics and Taxonomic Treatment of Three New Kengyilia Species in the Triticeae (Poaceae).

In the present study, we discovered and investigated three new species of Kengyilia (Triticeae, Poaceae): Kengyilia changduensis C. B. Zhang, H. Q. Zhang et Y. H. Zhou, Kengyilia dingqinensis Y. H. Zhou, D. D. Wu et X. Y. Pan, and Kengyilia tibetica Y. H. Zhou, C. B. Zhang et D. D. Wu, in Changdu, Tibet, China based on morphological, cytological, and molecular data. Each species is morphologically characterized and distinguished from existing Kengyilia species by smooth internodes, glumes oblong- lanceolate and awns 2 mm, lemmas pubescent and awns 5-10 mm of K. changduensis, the lower part of

Ovine white-liver disease (OWLD). Botanical and chemical composition of pasture grass.

The most important grass species on the ovine white-liver disease (OWLD) pastures (S) were Poa spp., Agropyron repens and Lolium perenne, while the control pastures (H), where lambs grew well, consisted of Poa spp., Festuca rubra and Agrostis tenuis. The soil was more acidic on the H pastures as compared with the S pastures. OWLD grass (S grass) contained marginal to deficient amounts of cobalt during the first 2 months of grazing. During 2 years out of 3, the average Co content was slightly lower in the S grass as compared with the content in the H grass. The lowest average grass Co was, howe

Exceptionally High Levels of Genetic Diversity in Wheat Curl Mite (Acari: Eriophyidae) Populations from Turkey.

Recent research on the wheat curl mite species complex has revealed extensive genetic diversity that has distinguished several genetic lineages infesting bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and other cereals worldwide. Turkey is the historical region of wheat and barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) domestication and diversification. The close relationship between these grasses and the wheat curl mite provoked the question of the genetic diversity of the wheat curl mite in this region. The scope of the study was to investigate genetic differentiation within the wheat curl mite species complex on grasses

Relative suitability of crested wheatgrass and other perennial grass hosts for the Russian wheat aphid (Homoptera: Aphididae).

The Russian wheat aphid, Diuraphis noxia (Mordvilko) (Homoptera: Aphididae), reproduces parthenogenetically in North America and must survive year-round on host plants, including in late summer when small grains are not in cultivation. During this time, cool-season perennial wheatgrasses (Poaceae: Triticeae) contribute substantially to aphid survival, crested wheatgrass (Agropyron spp.) particularly. In greenhouse studies, the number of aphids per plant was measured after four infestation periods on unvernalized and vernalized wheatgrasses. Before placement on these test plant species, aphids

Inappropriate Mixed Addition of Plant Residues Weakens the Remediation Effect of Crude Oil-Contaminated Soil.

The mixed application of plant residues to treat petroleum-contaminated soil may increase remediation efficiency by leveraging their mixed decomposition effects. However, it remains unclear whether this approach may also lead to opposite effects. In this study, plant residues of 7 common plant species, namely, Bothriochloa ischaemum (Bi), Lespedeza davurica (Ld), Artemisia gmelinii (Ag), Heteropappus altaicus (Ha), Artemisia annua (Aa), Sophora davidii (Sd), and Agropyron cristatum (Ac), from the petroleum-producing area of northern Shaanxi and their 9 mixtures were used to treat petroleum-con
