Aerobiological importance and allergic sensitization to Amaranthaceae under arid climate conditions.

Species of the Amaranthaceae family are abundant in the Southeast of Spain, one of the driest areas in Europe. The Amaranthaceae include species of interest from the point of view of allergic diseases. With the expansion of aridity, many species belonging to this family will be favoured. The objectives of this study were: first, to define the prevalence of sensitization to Amaranthaceae pollen in allergic patients in the Southeast of Spain; second, to present the aerobiological features of this taxon; and, finally, to demarcate those periods of increased risk of suffering allergic symptoms wit

Assessing degree of flowering implicates multiple Chenopodiaceae/Amaranthaceae species in allergy.

BACKGROUND: IgE-mediated sensitization to the Chenopodiaceae/Amaranthaceae families is a cause of allergic symptoms in arid areas. Salsola kali and Chenopodium album are considered the main species responsible; however, there is a discrepancy between the pollination period of these two plants and clinical symptoms. The objectives of this study were to identify new Chenopodiaceae/Amaranthaceae members with sensitization capacity and to correlate symptoms, pollen counts and degree of flowering of different species. METHODS: A total of 37 individuals monosensitized to S. kali and C. album were i

Effect of sodium on iron absorption, translocation and allocation in halophilic Amaranthaceae species.

In arid regions, alkaline conditions resulting from soil sodification make iron unavailable, causing plants to suffer from salt-alkali stress. We hypothesized that halophilic species possess an exceptional iron uptake mechanism involving Na. Here, we investigated the effects of medium pH (acidic or neutral), amounts of iron (0.358 μM or 35.8 μM) and NaCl (5 or 100 mM) on Fe uptake, translocation, and allocation in salt tolerant Mexican tea (Dysphania ambrosioides L.), halophilic mesophyte Swiss chard (Beta vulgaris L. spp. cicla), and euhalophyte romeritos (Suaeda edulis Flores Olv. & Noguez)

Chenopodium is one of the most complex genera in the family Amaranthaceae, exhibiting ploidy levels ranging from diploid to hexaploid. The lack of distinct morphological characters and phenotypic plasticity has complicated species identification in this genus. The advent of next-generation sequencing technology has enabled in-depth genomic studies of Chenopodium species. To date, the chloroplast genomes of six Chenopodium species-Chenopodium acuminatum, C. ficifolium, C. berlandieri, C. petiolare, C. quinoa, and C. album-have been reported using genomic DNA as templates. On the other hand, hig
