Tick-borne haemoparasites and Anaplasmataceae in domestic dogs in Zambia.

Tick-borne diseases (TBDs), including emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, are important threats to human and animal health worldwide. Indeed, the number of reported human and animal infectious cases of novel TBD agents has increased in recent decades. However, TBDs tend to be neglected, especially in resource-limited countries that often have limited diagnostic capacity. The aim of this molecular survey was to detect and characterise tick-borne pathogens (Babesia, Theileria, and Hepatozoon parasites and Anaplasmataceae bacteria) in domestic dogs in Zambia. In total, 247 canine periph

Prevalence of Anaplasmataceae and Filariidae species in unowned and military dogs in New Caledonia.

Dogs are competent reservoir hosts of several zoonotic agents, including Filariidae nematodes and Anaplasmataceae family bacteria. The latter family unites human and veterinary pathogens (Anaplasma, Ehrlichia and Neorickettsia bacteria) with Wolbachia, some of which are obligatory endosymbionts of pathogenic filarial nematodes. The epidemiology of Anaplasmataceae and Filariidae species infecting dogs living in kennels in New Caledonia was studied. 64 EDTA blood samples were screened for the presence of Anaplasmataceae and filarial nematodes. Molecular study was conducted using primers and prob

Anaplasmataceae circulation in wild mammals and ticks from Goiás state, midwestern Brazil.

The Anaplasmataceae family comprises vector-borne alpha-proteobacteria with significant impact on animal and human health. In Brazil, the diversity and circulation of these agents in wild mammals require further exploration. This study investigated the presence of Anaplasmataceae agents in wild mammals, and ticks from Goiás state, in midwestern Brazil. A total of 97 blood samples, 22 tissue samples, and 69 ticks from 18 mammalian species were analyzed. Conventional PCR targeting the 16S rRNA gene revealed Anaplasmataceae DNA in 11.3% (11/97) of blood samples, 13.6% (3/22) in tissue samples and

Molecular Characterization and Epidemiology of Anaplasmataceae in Ticks and Domestic Animals in the Colombian Caribbean.

Tick-borne diseases (TBD) pose a significant threat to both animal and public health, particularly in tropical regions. In the Colombian Caribbean region, there is limited knowledge of the epidemiology of TBD in domestic animals and their vectors. In this study, conducted in northern Colombia from 2021 to 2022, we analyzed the molecular diversity of Anaplasmataceae in a total of 1156 ticks and blood samples collected from their infested hosts: 56 cattle and 17 equids (horses and mules). Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays were performed, using primers to amplify the mitochondrial 16S rRNA g

Molecular characterization of Anaplasmataceae in Turkmen horses (Akhal-Teke breed) and ticks in racetracks, Iran.

Due to the abundance of ticks on open grassy surfaces, racetracks may represent ideal scenarios for tick-borne pathogens. Therefore, in 2024/2025 Turkmen horses (Akhal-Teke breed) and ticks collected by dragging in paddocks of Iran were screened for Anaplasmataceae using Sanger sequencing of 16S rRNA, TRP36 and dsb genes. Amongst 200 horses, 11 (5.5 %) tested positive without signs/symptoms, being 8 (4 %) for Ehrlichia canis and 3 (1.5 %) for Anaplasma ovis; no difference in prevalence was found by gender and age (p > 0.05). All ticks were identified as Hyalomma asiaticum and Haemaphysalis sul

The global distribution and risk prediction of Anaplasmataceae species: a systematic review and geospatial modelling analysis.

BACKGROUND: The family Anaplasmataceae, reclassified under the order Rickettsiales, represents a highly complex group that poses an increasing global threat. However, their infection risk remains poorly understood. We aimed to map the diversity, distribution, and potential infection risk of Anaplasmataceae members. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Web of Science, bioRvix, and MedRvix for published articles to extract data on the detection of Anaplasmatacea species in vectors, animals, and humans from 1910 to 2022. We mapped the richness and global distribution of identified Anaplasmatacea species

Molecular detection of bacteria in the families Rickettsiaceae and Anaplasmataceae in northern crested caracaras (Caracara cheriway).

Bacterial pathogens of the families Anaplasmataceae and Rickettsiaceae are often spread to humans or other animals from bites from infected arthropod hosts. Recently, an increasing number of studies have implicated migratory birds in the circulation of these pathogens through the spread of arthropod vectors. However, few studies have examined the potential for resident bird populations to serve as reservoirs for these zoonoses. In this study, we used nested PCRs of the GroESL and 17 kDa genes to screen for Anaplasmataceae and Rickettsiaceae, respectively, in a resident population of the northe

Identification and genetic characterization of Piroplasmida and Anaplasmataceae agents in feeding Amblyomma variegatum ticks from Benin.

In many African countries including Benin, the reluctance of some livestock owners to blood collection from their cattle makes epidemiological surveys cumbersome and prevents regular monitoring of tick-borne diseases. In the present study, Amblyomma variegatum ticks were used to find out more about bovine tick-borne pathogens. DNA extracts from 910 adult ticks collected off cattle in North East Benin were examined for Babesia bigemina, B. bovis, Theileria taurotragi, T. annulata, T. orientalis, T. parva, T. mutans, Anaplasma marginale and Ehrlichia ruminantium using pathogen-specific PCR assay

T Lymphocyte Interferon-gamma Response to Anaplasmataceae-related Major Surface Proteins and Ankyrin A in Fibromyalgia.

BACKGROUND: The aetiology of fibromyalgia is unknown; its symptoms may be related to a T-lymphocyte-mediated response to infectious organisms. OBJECTIVES: First, to test the hypothesis that fibromyalgia is associated with increased interferon (IFN)-γ-secreting T-lymphocytes after stimulation with Anaplasmataceae-related major surface proteins (MSPs) and the macromolecular translocation type IV secretion system effector ankyrin repeat domain-containing protein A (AnkA). Second, to ascertain the relationship in fibromyalgia between (i) the IFN-γ-secreting T-lymphocyte response to stimulation wi
