Overactive bladder (OAB) is a prevalent syndrome affecting quality of life (QoL) in 10.8% of men and 12.8% of women in Europe, impacting various aspects of daily functioning. Conventional treatments like antimuscarinic drugs show low adherence due to limited efficacy and side effects. This study explores the effects of natural supplementation with Angelica archangelica (AA) leaf extract on OAB symptoms, focusing on daytime voids, nocturia, and urgency. A pilot study with a randomized, triple-blind, controlled trial design, registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04357223), was conducted with 143

Bioactive essential oil (EO) based nanoemulsions (NEs) exhibit superior stability and bioactivity over conventional formulations, thereby emerging as a promising strategy for efficient management of phyto-parasitic nematodes. The present investigation emphasized the development of eco-benign botanical nematicide from EO of Angelica archangelica using nanotechnological interventions. GC-MS analysis of the EO revealed abundance of limonene (18.39%), vinylguaiacol (14.10%), and citronellol acetate (15.91%). Nanoemulsification of the volatile oil was performed using ultrasonication, followed by ch

The plant Angelica archangelica, owing to its magnificent therapeutic effectiveness in folklore medicine system, has been regarded as an "angel plant." The current investigation was aimed to optimize extraction conditions of A. archangelica roots and to investigate in vivo role of optimized extract in fibromyalgia. Plant material (dried roots) was subjected to methanol extraction at variable temperature (40 to 60 °C) and time (12 to 36 hr) conditions as per two-factorial design strategy, and responses in terms of antioxidant activity were determined. The optimized extraction conditions were fo

The dichloromethane extract from fruits of Angelica archangelica L. was separated by the modern high-performance countercurrent chromatography (HPCCC). The extract and five pure compounds: xanthotoxin, bergapten, imperatorin, phellopterin and isoimperatorin, and the mixture of imperatorin and phellopterin, have been studied as the potential antiviral agents against Herpes simplex virus type l and Coxsackievirus B3. The cytotoxicity was measured using the MTT method. Compounds were tested for the in vitro antiviral activity using the cytopathic effect (CPE) inhibitory assay and by the virus tit

OBJECTIVE: Angelica archangelica Linn. is widely used in food and liquor preparations and also in Kashmiri folk medicine to reduce anxiety. We evaluated the anxiolytic effect of successive extracts of A. archangelica linn. (SAE) on rats tested in the elevated T-maze test (an animal model of generalized anxiety) at doses that exhibit antidepressant-like activity in humans.
METHODS: A. archangelica (1 kg) was subjected to successive extraction in a soxhlet apparatus with solvents [petroleum ether (40-60 degrees C), chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol and decoction with water] in order of increa

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the effect of SagaPro, a product derived from Angelica archangelica leaf, on nocturia.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Sixty-nine male patients 45 years or older with at least two nocturnal voids were randomized to receive SagaPro or placebo in a double-blind design for 8 weeks. Voiding diaries were assessed before and after the treatment.
RESULTS: The results indicate that SagaPro is safe. The actual number of nocturnal voids (ANV), nocturnal polyuria index (NPi) and nocturnal bladder capacity index (NBC index) decreased in the test population, but there was

More than 60 species of medicinal plants belong to the genus Angelica (Family: Apiaceae). Many of these species have long been used in ancient traditional medicine systems, especially in the far-east. Various herbal preparations containing Angelica species are available over-the-counter, not only in the far-eastern countries, but also in the western countries like USA, UK, Germany, etc. For centuries, many species of this genus, e.g. A. acutiloba, A. archangelica, A. atropupurea, A. dahurica, A. japonica, A. glauca, A. gigas, A. koreana, A. sinensis, A. sylvestris, etc., have been used traditi

Plant protection against phytophagous pests still largely relies on the application of synthetic insecticides, which can lead to environmental and health risks that are further exacerbated by the development of resistant pest populations. These are the driving forces behind the current trend of research and the development of new ecological insecticides. The mode of action does not have to rely exclusively on acute or chronic toxicity. Another promising approach is the use of plant antifeedants, which can significantly reduce the food intake of phytophagous insects. However, the information on

Furocoumarins (FCs) are natural constituents widely occurring in plants used as food or in phytomedicines, cosmetics, etc. Some FCs exert dermal photo-toxicity and -genotoxicity when combined with UVA irradiation. For a few congeners, skin tumor formation has been described in humans and laboratory animals. Since almost no information is available on the photo-toxic properties of several congeners, we analyzed the photo-cytotoxic, photo-mutagenic, and photo-clastogenic properties in V79 cells for thirteen naturally occurring FCs, and for the coumarin limettin. Furthermore, nine FC mixtures inc

Naturally occurring coumarins are bioactive compounds widely used in Asian traditional medicine. They have been shown to inhibit proliferation, induce apoptosis, and/or enhance the cytotoxicity of currently used drugs against a variety of cancer cell types. The aim of our study was to examine the antiproliferative activity of different linear furanocoumarins on human rhabdomyosarcoma, lung, and larynx cancer cell lines, and dissolve their cellular mechanism of action. The coumarins were isolated from fruits of Angelica archangelica L. or Pastinaca sativa L., and separated using high-performanc

BACKGROUND: Gastric cancer (GC) is a prevalent malignant tumor of the digestive system worldwide. Xanthotoxol (Xan), a natural compound extracted from traditional Chinese medicine such as Angelica archangelica, has demonstrated antitumor properties. However, its specific effects on GC remain unreported.
METHODS: Hub targets of Xan in GC were identified by integrating weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) with network pharmacology. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were conducted to analyze the interaction between the hub targets and Xan. The effects of X

The drugs used for treating bone diseases (BDs), at present, elicit hazardous side effects that include certain types of cancers and strokes, hence the ongoing quest for the discovery of alternatives with little or no side effects. Natural products (NPs), mainly of plant origin, have shown compelling promise in the treatments of BDs, with little or no side effects. However, the paucity in knowledge of the mechanisms behind their activities on bone remodeling has remained a hindrance to NPs' adoption. This review discusses the pathological development of some BDs, the NP-targeted components, an
