Therapist adherence to a manualized cognitive-behavioral anger management group treatment (AMT) was compared between therapy delivered via videoconference (VC) and the traditional in-person modality, using data from a large, randomized controlled trial comparing the effectiveness of AMT for veterans with combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder. Therapist adherence was rated for the presence or absence of process and content treatment elements. Secondary analyses were conducted using a repeated measures ANOVA. Overall adherence to the protocol was excellent (M = 96%, SD = 1%). Findings ind

A 6-wk. cognitive behavioural program administered to 24 adolescent male offenders assigned to open custody and 5 to probation showed no mean differences on the Test of Nonverbal Intelligence, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, and the Coopersmith Self-esteem Inventory. Significant correlations were found for the personality measures with pretreatment and posttreatment scores on the Buss-Durkee Hostility Inventory.

People with depressive illness often have symptoms of overt or suppressed anger. Those with anger traits face exaggerated problem during symptomatic period of depression. Pharmacological management helps in control of depressive and anxiety symptoms, but rarely address anger symptoms. Non-pharmacological management like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is effective in depression as well as in anger management, but is not used frequently in anger associated or exacerbated by depression. We present the case of a 27-year-old male suffering from moderate depressive episode with associated anger

BACKGROUND: Problem anger after experiencing trauma is a common mental health issue. Shift is a new cognitive-behavioral based app, co-designed with users and experts, that works by prompting users to report their current anger state, and delivering personalized support to manage anger accordingly.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to investigate whether prompting users to engage with Shift modules tailored to their in-the-moment anger state, as compared to no prompt, reduces near-term anger intensity. We also aim to investigate whether this effect is moderated by the anger state, or days i

Introduction: Incarceration represents an opportune moment to improve self-management of anger and aggression. A hatha yoga-based intervention (YBI) could serve as a useful adjunctive intervention for anger within prisons. Methods: We enrolled 40 people with elevated levels of anger who were incarcerated (20 in a women's facility, and 20 in a men's facility) in a 10-week pilot randomized controlled trial of a YBI versus. a health education (HE) control group. Participants attended their respective groups once per week. We examined indices of feasibility and acceptability, including interventio

OBJECTIVE: Psychiatric treatment research has too frequently neglected anger. "Anger management" is widely used to tamp anger down. Yet understanding and expressing anger often have clinical and interpersonal value. Few data address anger in the context of treating patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The authors hypothesized the clinical utility of anger expression rather than suppression, particularly using interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), which focuses on interpersonal handling of emotions. IPT effects on anger have barely been researched.
METHODS: Secondary data analyses

The effects of Aggression Replacement Training (ART) were explored in a group of Dutch violent young men aged 16 to 21 years, who were obliged by the court to follow a treatment program in a forensic psychiatric outpatient clinic. To evaluate the training, patients completed a set of self-report questionnaires at three moments in time: at intake/before a waiting period, after the waiting period/before the training, and after the training. During the waiting period, the patients did not change on most measures, although they displayed a significant increase in anger. The patients who completed

BACKGROUND: Individuals with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) have elevated intolerance of uncertainty (IU) and anger, and IU mediates the relationship between GAD symptoms and anger.
AIMS: The current pilot study examined whether group cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) improves anger in people with GAD, and the degree to which change in IU mediates improved anger.
METHOD: Individuals diagnosed with GAD completed measures of worry, IU, and facets of anger, before and at the end of group CBT for GAD.
RESULTS: Worry, IU, and internally felt and outwardly expressed anger, reduced significa

BACKGROUND: Violence against others is recognized worldwide as a significant public health and safety issue. Violent behavior and problems related to anger management, particularly among adolescents and young adults, are on the rise. Therefore, training in basic self-regulation skills, promoting social relationships, and improving social problem-solving skills plays a crucial role in anger management. The aim of this study is therefore to investigate the effects of an anger management training program on the aggression levels and social problem-solving skills of nursing students with high leve

Dysregulated anger is a prevalent concern for veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and is associated with negative psychosocial outcomes. The tendency to perceive ambiguous interpersonal situations as hostile, also known as hostile interpretation bias, is associated with problematic anger. In the present study, we report on a feasibility randomized control trial (RCT) that sought to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of the Mobile Anger Reduction Intervention (MARI) mobile application (app), which utilizes interpretation bias modification techniques to modify hostile inte

A significant portion of children referred for psychiatric treatment have been sexually abused. One of the most difficult symptom manifestations to treat in young children is the management of anger. In this case, a 4-year-old boy was sexually abused by persons outside the family. He showed symptoms of regressive behavior including encopresis, enuresis, difficulty sleeping, fearfulness, recurrent nightmares, and had hyperalertness and frequent outbursts of anger. Treatment initially involved group therapy, with a concurrent parents' group. After experiencing little improvement in group therapy

Adolescents' aggressive behavior is a growing social problem with important implications for psychosocial adjustment. The teaching of emotional skills has an important impact on reducing aggression in schools. However, little scientific evidence has shown the explanatory mechanism through which this training reduces aggression during adolescence. This article aims to provide evidence for the effectiveness of a 3-year longitudinal intervention among adolescents in nine Spanish schools. A total of 476 adolescents participated. Results showed a reduction in physical and verbal aggression in Time
