Brief Report: Speech and Language Therapy in Children with ASD in an Aquatic Environment: the ASLT (Aquatic Speech and Language Therapy) Program.

Although water-based approaches have been shown to be beneficial for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), no study thus far has directly investigated the effects of such intervention programs on language skills. The present study aims to evaluate the efficacy of the Aquatic Speech and Language Therapy (ASLT) program, which is a new, exclusively aquatic intervention program designed especially for children with ASD. The effects of ASLT were compared to the outcome of a similar classroom-based intervention, in two groups of children with ASD matched for age, gender, and expressive/recep

Effectiveness of Aquatic Therapy in Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Pituitary adenomas are common sellar tumours in which transsphenoidal surgery is often the main treatment. Surgical resection largely depends on extrasellar extension, especially cavernous sinus involvement, making radiological classifications important for operative planning and patient counselling. This review summarizes evidence on the Hardy-Wilson and Knosp classifications (including revised Knosp) for predicting extent of resection. Hardy-Wilson grading describes sellar changes and suprasellar extension but has limited value for assessing parasellar invasion on modern MRI. The Knosp class

Development and Usability of an Adjustable Prosthesis for Aquatic Therapy.

INTRODUCTION: During aquatic therapy, without a prosthesis, individuals with lower-limb difference are limited in navigating stairs or ladders, performing gait training, balance, and strengthening exercises. A noncustom prosthesis for individuals with transtibial limb difference in aquatic therapy, consisting of interchangeable sockets and pylons, does not exist. Dilatancy has not been applied within a socket to provide an accommodative shape for multiple users. OBJECTIVES: This study explores the development and usability of an adjustable prosthesis, utilizing dilatancy, for aquatic therapy.

Aquatic Therapy in Children and Adolescents with Disabilities: A Scoping Review.

Globally, around 1 in 10 children aged 0-17 years have moderate-to-severe disabilities. The aquatic environment provides hydrostatic and hydrodynamic characteristics that make exercise and therapy feasible for children and adolescents with disabilities. The objective of this scoping review is to understand the extent and type of evidence in relation to the use of aquatic therapy in children and adolescents with disabilities. The eligibility criteria were as follows: participants-children and/or adolescents with disabilities aged from 6 to 18 years old; concept-aquatic therapy interventions; co

Effectiveness of a Multisystem Aquatic Therapy for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Aquatic therapy improves motor skills of persons with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), but its usefulness for treating functional difficulties needs to be verified yet. We tested effectiveness of a multisystem aquatic therapy on behavioural, emotional, social and swimming skills of children with ASD. Multisystem aquatic therapy was divided in three phases (emotional adaptation, swimming adaptation and social integration) implemented in a 10-months-programme. At post-treatment, the aquatic therapy group showed significant improvements relative to controls on functional adaptation (Vineland Adap

Integrated rehabilitation incorporating aquatic therapy following posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Rehabilitation following posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction can be challenging because of improper muscle activation and excessive joint loading which could further delay graft healing. Aquatic therapy provides a buoyancy-assisted aquatic environment, where reduced effective body weight and joint loading may facilitate early functional recovery while minimizing stress on the reconstructed ligament. However, evidence regarding aquatic rehabilitation following PCL reconstruction remains limited. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 51-year-old woman presented for physiotherapy 4 week
